Top Dogs Puppy Store

I don’t even know where to begin! I couldn’t be happier with my little Totoro! He is a tiny imperial Shih tzu. Darril who is the owner of the puppy store was very respectful and attentive when I arrived. He took the time to explain everything to me about his puppies and how he takes care of them. The dogs seemed happy and healthy. They were all so playful and when the puppies came out of the cage they followed Darril around and wanted to play with him. I was impressed of how everything looked so clean and there was no nasty smells. The place looked very neat to me. I got a chance to be with my puppy while Darril explained to me in detail how to take care of him. I must say I’m very very very happy!

I strolled by and went in to see what the pet store is like. All I can say is poor puppies, conditions are unsanitary and they do not look clean, and obviously not well taken care of. The store had such a bad smell they had to light lots of incense to cover the smell. Why is this place still allowed to still dogs? Sad to see dogs being sold like this.

This place is BAD !!! We knocked on the door while the sign said «OPEN» a guy that runs the store came out the back room smelling of weed, it was fogging in that puppy store, it smelled like weed and dirty puppies, the smell hits you when you walk in, and the ridiculous prices the guy had on his puppies, if you say you store is making money why would you have your store looking like shit & most importantly say on your website the cleanest puppy store around, and it was a total opposite, someone should call authorities for not taking care those puppies properly, its the saddest store i ever seen, and needs to be closed down, the guy should be ashamed…

I got a Bichon over 4 years ago. The only issue is she is spoiled rotten!
Oops.I caused that! I really love her. They have great dogs and the place was clean and disinfected.
I’d get another dog from there.

Why is it that all the good reviews are not recommended? Something is not adding up with these results. Every single bad review is front and center & the good reviews are disregarded, anyways… I said it once I’ll say it again live the puppies they have love the staff and overall love the store

I know that is not fair to write a review based on what I saw only. I went there twice, to see the puppies, since I live really close to this store. The puppies seemed sick and scared. I’m more than positive that they come from puppy mills. I almost bought a 5 month old malteze, but soon realized that I should do more research …

WACH OUT !! I went there with my girlfriend a few weeks ago. This place smelled horrible. Chlorine and nothing else. I can only imagine what this does to The poor puppy’s eyes and over all health inhaling this all day! As soon as I asked questions where the puppy’s came from (Aka puppy mills) they where aggravated and told me if I wasn’t interested then leave! I was looking for a buddy for my 4 month old Maltese girl but this isn’t the right place. This people only care about profit

The puppies they sell are adorable for that they get 1 star.
BUT they are ALL ABOUT PROFIT, NOT the well-​being of their puppies.
It has actually been almost 3 years since I purchased my dog from them, but let me say, I will never forget the traumatic experience I had with them.
On the website, and I quote, it says their puppies are «free of coccidia» and that they are fed «deboned chicken, spinach, flaxseed, blueberries and calcium.» These are lies. From what I remember, they were fed puppy chow. Also from DAY ONE when I had gotten my dog, he had been sick, from coccidia. It angers me that they can make such false claims in order to promote their sales.
Now they may claim that it is due to «rehoming» or «stress» as the cause of this, but if they had any knowledge about health or done their research, they would find that coccidia has an incubation period of 6 – 13 days. What this means is that he would have to have been infected with the worm 6 – 13 days BEFORE showing symptoms of illness, such as vomiting or diarrhea. My dog was already sick and vomiting from DAY ONE.
«If the puppy has been at the new home for less than thirteen days, then he had coccidia before he arrived» (
). Also hypoglycemia and hypothermia are potential complications of coccidia.
Puppies already have weak immune systems and the likelihood of contracting coccidia is MUCH HIGHER where there are many other puppies likely to be infected and who are susceptible to infection via contact with feces (eg Top Dogs). To say that coccidia (and its complications) is due to «rehoming» or «stress» without accounting for this likelihood and the time period in which it occurred to my dog makes it an invalid claim. It also shows how little they know or care about the health of their puppies.
So in conclusion, my dog had already contracted coccidia from Top Dogs. And I ALONE dealt with the health of a very sick, innocent puppy undeserving of the improper care it received from Top Dogs, not to mention the exorbitant vet bills that came along with it.
Bottom line: it’s a business without any ethics.

I bought my dog Prince (Yorkie) from Top Dogs on December 23, 2010 and I’ve NEVER had any problems. I received GREAT service,. I fell in love with Prince as soon as I saw him… Thank God he is a healthy little guy… When I bought Prince I called a couple of times after so they can guide me in how to feed him and what to do, since it was my first time having a dog… I have no problems and if I ever decide to get another dog I will definitely come here again… I added Top Dogs to my facebook and I’ve even kept them updated of Prince with some lovely pictures… I love my baby Prince he is sooooo spoiled… Thank you Top Dogs for everything =)

I bought my baby boy from this pet store in June of 2011. He is a teddy bear dog (half shih tzu half bichon frise). I knew I wanted this breed and he was a bit cheaper there than other pet stores in the city. I was worried about getting him from a pet store; however, once I went in I fell in love and purchased him immediately. My mother met me at the store and fell in love with a yorkie maltese pup and purchased him the next day. We have the sweetest puppies around. It has been 5 months since we both purchased our babies and luckily they are both healthy and wonderful.

We got a dog here last year and he was fine until we got home. He started puking water that very night. When we called to ask for help numerous times from the pet store, no one answered. We took him to the vet the next day. We gave him medicine for the parasites in his system. Supposely they said he got all the shots he needed. We gave him food and covered him with blankets. He started shaking late at night and started moaning really loud and could not move. We called the pet store again and no one answered. so we took him to the pet ER. We stayed up all night and finally he was in stable condition. He had hypoglycemia and coccidia in his system. He almost died that night if we didn’t get him there in time. The next day after all that happened, the pet store called seeing how the puppy was. They didn’t offer to cover any of the expenses nor did they help. They have yet to cover any of the damages that happened this far. DO NOT COME HERE AT ALL COSTS!

Be very careful. The health guarantee is crap. It does cover genetic issues, OK. It also covers half of vet fees within 2 days of getting your new pet. The problem is that you have to go to THEIR vet. AKA their shady dirty vet (complete with flyer’s and cards for Top Dogs). For free, he looks your puppy over briefly with no real tests.
My boyfriend and I decided to take her to a real vet (West Wrigley animal hospital) soon after and guess what … parasites. Gross runny poo parasites!!! And guess which Puppy store’s guarantee does absolutely nothing… Top Dogs.
Shes a Beautiful Puppy and I Gladly paid hundreds of dollars for her. Their pricing is comparable to may other shops and individual sellers in Chicago and the burbs.
What I am not glad about —
The cost of Treatment for something that I purchased her with.
The cost of a Vet visit for my two cats because she was contagious (they were negative, thank god, but it confirmed that she got it from the store).
I feel that any reputable seller would show you proof of recent stool tests or cover testing.
So…Um… Don’t get a puppy there. Unless they update their policy.
