I’m not sure who opened this restaurant, but it was the worst «Japanese (we all know that food is not authentic)» food place I’ve been to.
First of all their menu is very weird. There is no price on most of the items, and the menu names were literally called «favorite», «Noodle» — without a price or any explanations. After looking around for 1 minute I was finally able to see that on the side wall there’s a picture with a dollar sign and a number, so I decided to order that.
A bowl of pork belly ramen cost over $ 10 and the portion was good for lunch. However, the broth tasted like super-​saturated salt water and nothing else. Japanese ramen usually have boiled eggs, nori, or some veggies inside, but there is nothing except a teaspoon of kimchi in the ramen. A lot of noodles and 2 pieces of pork. It’s been over 3 hours after I had the ramen, and I still feel very thirsty. I’m worried about the sodium overload in my body and I want my money back!
Bottom line: Just don’t go there.

Conveniently located in the Thompson Center, Tokyo Lunch Boxes offers a variety of sushi as well as noodles and salads.
Three stars is pretty generous considering the other great sushi places in Chicago, but for a food court place, the sushi is pretty decent. I got the spicy maki variety pack. I’m not totally sure what the variety was, but I am still alive, so it’s not totally mystery meat. There was definitely spicy tuna and maybe spicy shrimp.
I got the udon soup about a year ago, but I don’t think I liked it. It was rather bland if I remember correctly.

For the price, and for food court sushi, this place is really great. The sushi is higher quality than the price. The employees are nice and will make something for you if its not prepared already. Overall good value for good sushi I recommend this place for lunch.

I discovered this place only a month ago and bought lunch twice from them. Both times sushi and soup were very good, no complaints. Prices are pretty affordable. I’ll definitely return!

I got the vegetable tempura and for 5.51… I’d buy it again if I were feeling a bit peckish and were low on funds lol. But, only under those conditions…

Could be a little less greasy but it was quick and affordable. Had the vegetable noodle soup and it was only $ 6 and literally the size of a bucket!

Tokyo Lunch Boxes has buy 1 get 1 free after 3:30pm! This might very well be the best sushi deal in the city. I got two orders of the Spicy Tokyo Deluxe which came with one roll (6 pieces) and six pieces of nigiri for $ 10.50. That’s 24 pieces of sushi for less than .50 cents each.
The deal is great but it’s not going to be the best quality sushi — especially the rice. You can tell that the rice was packaged separately and refrigerated before the pieces of fish were added. This might be designed to help keep the fish fresh but the texture is off putting. It’s not the soft and chewy rice that you would expect for sushi rice. Since the fish is packaged separately, make sure to examine your order because my box was missing a piece of nigiri. You can see it from the photo I took that I just have a piece of rice with no fish.
Buying sushi at a food court is questionable but with the buy 1 get 1 free deal, .45 cent sushi isn’t that bad. When you think about how much you end up paying, you can’t help but lower your expectations. You just have to look past all of the beware signs that say «Eat ASAP.»

Hate to say so but while it tasted good going down, it made me sick within one L ride.

The rolls fell apart as my chopsticks touched them. I got the maki combo which is $ 6.99
