We order takeout from here every once in a while, food is consistently solid. Staff has always been very nice and helpful.

Wish I had checked Unilocal first. Delivery ordered at 8pm on a Tuesday. One hour forty minutes later sushi was… just fine.

Loved their summer roll! They have a large variety of foods and some great flavors. Perfect for a chill night out or take out!

Pretty good spot for Thai takeout, but skip the sushi. The restaurant itself is nothing exciting, so if you’re looking for a good atmosphere, this isn’t the place. But they do have a great Thai menu, and everything I’ve tried has been great! Recommend for takeout.

We went here on three different occasions and had both Thai and sushi. I am taking one star away overall for the Pad Thai which was pedestrian and nothing special. On the other hand, the sushi was very good, the service was cheerful, and the sushi chefs accommodating.

We were the ones dining in on a weeknight. Most of their business seemed to be take out. Quality has gone down… We got the spicy seafood dish where the shrimp and scallops tasted fine but the vegetables tasted old. The pad kee mao was not at all spicy and the noodles were mushy and bland. Only good thing was that all the food came out fast.

WORST sushi and thai I have ever been to. I had one bite of the sushi and it was inedible. Because so many of the other dishes were built incredibly wrong for thai — and yes, I mean authentic thai, and I was so hungry and wanted to avoid another let down, after the sushi, I went with the crab rangoons. AWFUL. They were beyond BLAND, and what oozed out looked like a white version of «pink sludge». No crab or krab in sight. It’s hard to mess up crab rangoons! My friend who wasn’t with me concurred my thoughts on the place–«Yep, worst crab rangoons I have ever had». They wanted to charge $ 1 to get Siracha with my sushi. That’s like charging for ketchup at McDonalds. They were also out of the wine I ordered. I still paid for it all. $ 25 for two bites of crappy food. I will never go back to Tiparos.

The worst… The food is not up to par and is too salty. I had the fried rice(last item on the menu under Rice) and the most strangest and awkward tasting spring rolls in my life! I thought most spring rolls have a crispy, hot texture to them. These were prepared cold with a soft wrapping. Customer service is not anything to rave about either.

Love this place. Cheap and good. Always have the Panang Chicken — it’s delicious. Nice staff and food cokes out quick. For quick, cheap Thai this is the place to go.

I love Tiparos! After trying a few places, I keep coming back here. It’s got my favorite Pad Thai, and I really enjoy the Mussaman Curry too!

2 star for the atmosphere. 1 for the food. I’d got the Penang curry, which wasn’t curry. It’s pretty much just beef in peanut butter sauce. There’s no other flavor. It also don’t come with rice. That’s additional charge. The Pad Kee Mao was a little better but not by much. The flavor was lacking. The presentation doesn’t look appetizing. However, it was more edible than the Penang Curry. I should stick with Garlic & Chili Thai for Thai food.

Went to Tiparos for dinner with a music colleague following a quartet gig at the Chicago History Museum. Parking had already been paid for and we still had an hour on the meter– why not, we thought, both really liking Thai food. Service was a little abrupt but everything made it out hot and in a timely fashion. Although dinner tasted good(I had a small bowl of the Tom Kha coconut soup with chicken as an appetizer; my colleague, fried vegetable spring rolls with dipping sauce. For dinner, we each ordered Pad Thai; she had tofu and I chose beef) the ill-effects began making me queasy as we carpooled back our sides of town. I was feeling terrible upon returning home and went to bed early. Luckily for me, that was the worst of it. Came to find out via text the next day that my colleague did not fare so well; she was quite ill that night following this particular meal. So, when one person at the table falls sick, maybe it’s a stomach bug. When both parties end up feeling terrible, well, I, for one, won’t be dining at Tiparos again anytime soon.

Seriously this is the worst Thai food I have ever had in my entire life and I have eaten a A LOT of Thai food over the years. I love Thai food. It is one my favorite go-to cuisines. I want so desperately to like this place — even to tolerate this place. I have tried it 3 times in hopes that it has become better or hoping if I try a different dish, that it will be better. It is less than a block away from me and at this point, I would not eat there even if my entire meal and drinks were free. My last(and final) visit: It was a cold night. My bf and I were lazy, and he wanted to try this place since it was so close by. I warned him about how awful it was but he insisted that no place could be that bad… He ate his words. Based of our last visit: We got 2 dishes and both were terrible. We had some sort of beef dish — the ‘meat’ was rubbery and after one bite, I could not stomach another. The noodle dish was edible but not the least bit satisfactory. It was not cooked right and was flavorless. I’d much rather warm up any frozen dish from any grocery store. My bf and I did not finish even ½ of our food. We talked about how we would even not give the leftovers to a dog because that would be cruel. Please — save yourself. While I have not tried all of the Thai restaurants in Chicago, I would bet good money that if you went to ANY other Thai place — the food would be significantly better. I seriously can’t understand how this place is still open or how people manage to give it 3 stars or higher?! Do the people of Old Town lack tastebuds? I understand there aren’t a lot of decent choices in the area but that is still no excuse.

How I managed to NOT write a review months ago when I ate here is a mystery… Oh wait, no its not. I suffered from gastro-intestinal distress for several days. It took a solid week or so before my gut biome returned to normal. I tried to block out the trauma afterwards. Despite my girlfriend’s prior dire warnings of this place, I did not think it could be that bad. It was. We ordered two entrees(sorry, I don’t recall what they were). One was at best so-so. The other looked/tasted like someone tossed a can of dog food and brown gravy into a sautee pan for 10 minutes. As I mentioned, I didn’t feel right for a good week. I don’t understand how this place stays open unless its a front for some seedy mob types. It is not an average nearby take out joint which I could see benefitting from all the residences and high-rises nearby. It is simply disgusting. A truly wretched place. Please save your taste-buds, stomach, and gastrointestinal system from this torture(unless your a culinary masochist). If this is a mob front, please take pity on me as you have already tortured me.

Tiparos is good for take out or dining in. It is clean and the staff are friendly. The portions are usually pretty hefty, so when I get food to go, it lasts me 2 meals! Even though I am not a vegetarian I enjoy the pad thai with tofu. The menu is pretty vast and includes Chinese and Thai options. They also have bubble tea, which I love and you can get it to go!

Interesting combo of a thai restaurant up front and a sushi bar in the back. Food isn’t horrible but wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. I came here more out of convenience than anything else since it was within walking distance of where I was staying in the city, open late for a Friday, and I could order for take out. I ordered the spicy basil leaves with chicken and a side of white rice. Caution this is a pretty spicy dish! I accidentally mistaken the green peppers which I thought were bell peppers were actually sliced jalepenos! Ooo weeee! The seasoning and flavors were on point compared to other basil chicken dishes I’ve have but I was a bit disappointed they seemed to use ground chicken rather than larger pieces of chicken. If I came back, I’d probably go for their curry dish instead. ‘Til next time, cheers!

I want to give 2 stars for delivery but 4 stars for eating in — so i guess I’ll just go with 3 stars. Their dining experience is great — great attentive service, reasonably priced food. They apparently also have a full bar with decently priced imported beers. I ordered Thai food here and everything was great. Food came out fast, and the check for two came out to under $ 20. I had the Pad See-Ew and my friend had the Pad-Thai. Both were satisfactory, but nothing special. On one very cold winter day, I decided to not walk the two minutes for takeout but order delivery from downstairs — well, the food was fast, I’ll give you that. But that was probably the easiest $ 7 delivery + tip that restaurant’s ever made. haha, they literally just popped next door and upstairs. I had osme kind of wonton soup and Pad –See Ew. The Pad See-Ew was very small portioned and the soup was very bland. Blah.
