Place is extremely clean and the décor is soothing. I had eyebrow threading done for the first time. It is an Asian technique that uses thread, no wax or plucking. It was very happy when I walked in a no other customers were in there. Jasmine, (who took care of me) was very nice and explained the process. It was relatively quick and much less painful than waxing/​plucking. Afterward, she did a nice temple massage and put soothing gel (Aloe Vera I believe) on my eyebrows and they felt better. Today is the day after and it looks and feels great! I will gladly spend $ 15 dollars on this every 3 – 4 weeks than ever going back to waxing/​plucking.

I haven’t written a review in a long time, mostly because I’ve been busy or that the establishment that I’ve been to has a zillion reviews. I wanted to make time for this review as I’m pretty sure I may not be going back here.
I stopped by after my hair appointment at Solo Salon (see my review, I love it there!) and thought I would swing in as I though $ 15 to try threading? Why not?
I popped in after my appointment and there was no one in there. Ghost town. Totally fine, that didn’t bother me. I sat in the chair, and let the woman know I wanted my eyebrows threaded. While this was my first experience, I didn’t know that I would be an active participant. The woman asked me to hold my skin tight so she could start her business. I thought, hmm… ok. Half way through she said that my eyebrow hairs were too long and that she was going to wax me.
Ok fine… on to waxing. That was quick and fairly painless (I didn’t think that the wax was warm enough, but I’m not an esthicican, so what do I know?). My only complaint about it was this: there was wax ALL over my new ‘do. Like, ALL OVER. I didn’t realize it until I sat in my car and moved my hair out of my face. Sticky all over. I had to wash all the cuteness that Krystal just did to my hair because of all the wax in my hair. I was so sad.
Long story short, you get what you pay for. Not sure if I’ll be back. If I do go back, I’ll be sure to bring a shower cap for my hair.

This has been my go to eyebrow threading places for years, originally the gold coast location but now this west loop one. Usually they’re pretty good kind of expensive but the convenience always won out. However I went in yesterday and my left eyebrow is SO messed I will literally never go back! I uploaded a picture so everyone can see.

I was going away for the weekend and needed my eyebrows done before work. My usual lady who I love doesn’t open until later in the day and I wouldnt have time after work. I decided to give this place a try. I found the décor really cute and eye appealing. There wasnt any music to tie in the whole theme. The receptionist was really nice and told me that I could get my eyebrows done right away. Come to find out that the receptionist was going to do it. Not a problem. She started and it didn’t really hurt. I have had my brows threaded for years and they are really thick. She was really slow and a bit rough when she was clearing my hair away from my face. In conversation she tells me that she is the esthetician and she has only been threading for only a year. Yikes. Once she is done, she walks me to the front and proceeds to tell me that I need a facial. I tell her that I have a wonderful person that takes care of my skin and that I don’t need any facial services. She tells me that it doesn’t look like my lady is doing a good job and my skin is bad. Wow. I have gotten so many compliments on my skin since I started doing my facials. I was completely insulted for myself and my wonderful esthetician, Sabrina. After leaving I checked out my eyebrows up close and found that she didnt even get all my hair and my brows are uneven. $ 15 is not worth this place. If you want to be insulted and then ripped off the service wasn’t done right then this is the place. I won’t be back.

I immediately booked a facial as soon as the email was distributed.
The facial room was simple. The experience was like being in a third world country — hearing conversations, lower tenant was blasting music, and hear every creek and squeak on the floor and doors.
The facialist hesitated to perform the much needed extraction. What a disappointment!
One amazing moment… After facial, my skin didn’t feel tight or oily. It must be the Shanaz moisturizer.

What can I say, this has been the only place I trust with my eyebrows. Everyone knows, one wrong move with a piece of thread or wax, can leave you with trying to «auto-​correct» your brows or weeks of the dreaded «yes, I’m letting my eyebrows grow out.» I’ve frequented this particular location since their inception a couple of years ago and have no desire to go elsewhere. Sushma knows how I like my brows and gives me just what I need. She’s super quick, but very detailed, and I’m in and out in no time. A word of advice though, if in doubt, always speak up and say how you envision your eyebrows to be. I prefer mine to be a tad bit thicker and that’s what I get and am never disappointed.

This is by far the best threading place in the city. I’ve tried several places. Ive been to all of their locations and I cannot complain about a single thing. These ladies know what they are doing! It is a little pricey, but trust me, worth every penny.

My sister and I just moved around the corner from here and were looking for a place to get our eyebrows waxed last night. We walked in there when they were closed but Sushma offered to stay for us.
My sister sat in the chair first to get her eyebrows waxed. Sushma tried to talk her into threading but my sister did not want it. Now we know why– she waxed the middle of her eyebrows first and burnt her with the stick, burnt her to the point that she was bleeding! She only did one eyebrow and when my sister looked at it and saw the bleeding she asked her to stop. She then noticed that their was wax all over her hair! Sushma said to put oil in it and it would be fine.
We left there with my sister having only one eyebrow waxed, a bleeding cut in the middle, and wax in her hair. Now we know why she was so pushy on the threading. I would NEVER go back there again.

She was awesome very nice place And fast, didn’t like that at the end no oil to freshen or make the redness go away. =(but for the price in that neighborhood not going to complain =)

For my first time with threading, I was pleasantly surprised here. I had made an appointment, but there was only one gal there before I was up. The woman was very nice and showed me how threading was done and why it was often times better than waxing. I am now a true fan of threading and will be back!

This place is the best place to get my eyebrows done downtown. Its fast convenient and semi painless (when compared to waxing). The lady gave me the best shape to my brow since I’ve moved to Chicago. They took their time and kept my bushy caterpillar eyebrows to a tame… something. Either way, they look great. Its a little pricey, but what do you expect from River North area salons. Its better than having to drive to Devon for a quick fix. They have a frequent customer card if you want to check it out too. Your tenth visit is free!

I knew the owner from the Westmont location, and was pressed to get my eyebrows done while downtown. It is located upstairs from Salute wine and bar, which surprised me since we were just there a week ago. The salon itself was airy and bright with stations setup with big mirrors. I was seated immediately and was satisfied with the result. The lady took her time to make sure that my eye brows were even, and the areas around cleaned. She also provided an eye brow massage afterward.
I think $ 15 is pricey to pay for eye brow threading, but it is due to the convenience of being downtown. Sometimes treading to Devon is not a choice, and this is a great alternative for a little more.

Yes, threading can be somewhat painful, especially if you don’t regularly maintain your brows. But that’s your problem. On the other hand, do you want sagging skin around your eyes when you’re 35 from years of waxing? I didn’t think so.
Thread Away is fantastic! It’s a little bit more price wise than other places, but this is the Gold Coast/​River North. If you’re going to bitch about the prices, then you shouldn’t be shopping, walking or having personal grooming done in the neighborhood. Hike it up to Lakeview.
I didn’t make an appointment, but when I walked in I was greeted by a friendly receptionist. When I explained to her what I wanted done as far as threading, another women seated me and got right to work. I don’t recall her name but she did an impeccable job! The area around my brows were so smooth and perfect. Her attention to detail was no less than perfect. The other staff was very friendly. The salon is clean, professional, and nicely decorated.
I will definitely be back!

There used to be times when I would be tempted to cheat on that thin white thread by getting a quick eyebrow wax, but I now realise how much more beautiful and precise my arches look when Sushma at Thread Away has had her way with them.
So it’s not the $ 2 I’m used to paying back home, but for being in the neighbourhood, I’m okay with $ 15. It’s nice not having to trek all the way to Devon for someone who carefully whips your unruly caterpillars into perfect shape.
My mother tells me never to wax because each time a wax strip is pulled off, the delicate area around your eyes is stretched, leading to premature wrinkling. Uhm, no thank you! Mommy’s looking out for her little girl’s skin.
I’m a threader, through and through. And if you’re looking for some deft and dexterous threading hands, go to Thread Away. Ask about the loyalty card program where you receive $ 10 off after 10 visits. Nice!

Love this place. Quick and always friendly. Threading is a bit painful, but I think looks much more natural than waxing. Owners are really nice– $ 15 is a bit steep, but it is in the Gold Coast.

This place is terrible! I stopped by this salon today because I figured it would be a hassle to trek up North to get a threading done since I was already in the area. I came in and was given the $ 15 price mark. (Now, for that price you better be giving me the ability to teleport and go back to the Future, but anyway…)
I sat in the chair, and a woman came up to me and preceded to butcher my right eyebrow! Now, I have fairly thick eyebrows and ended up having a random arch and like a short brow. I was super sad (almost started crying) and even more dissapointed by the fact that it wasn’t even. It was also very painful… she didn’t have a steady hand and was having a difficult time threading in a straight line.
I told the beautician that I was not satisfied and she started telling me that the problem is the line of my brow, which I know for a fact is BS because I have been threading for 7 years. I was so upset that I wouldn’t allow anyone else there to thread my other brow and I left.
I am going to be in a wedding in about a week and a half so, I am super upset and disappointed. If you are going to charge $ 15 for a service that folks usually pay $ 5 for you better make sure you hire QUALITY beauticians to give out QUALITY service…

OUCH OUCH OUCH – but that’s just the nature of the beast. It’s a nice place but pricey for threading. Threading is few and far between in the mag mile area so think of it as a convenience surcharge.

It’s probably the most elegant threading place I’ve ever been too. I’ve usually only found threading in quickie, cheap salons for some reason, but I felt like I was entering an upscale spa here. Smelled so lovely! Made me want to stay longer than the quick 10 minutes it took to get my brows threaded.
Ever since being teased in seventh grade about unruly eyebrows, I’m really obsessed with keeping mine in good shape. Thread Away was fantastic. I’m always nervous going into a new place, but no fear here. They did a great job. I’m terrified of pencil-​thin brows, but asking for anything more full at unreliable places usually leaves me with brows that are a cleaned up version of what I have, which I can do on my own anyway. But as of a quick ten minutes at lunch today, I have lovely, groomed, arched eyebrows.
The place is new and so undiscovered-​ish. No wait at all. it’s about two blocks off Michigan Avenue so it’s easy to get to, esp. if you live or work round this part of town. $ 15 for brows is a bit steep, but the only other place comparable for such nice brows is the Benefit brow bar and if I recall, it’s the same price. I think it’s worth it, because when you get a good clean start on your brows then it’s easier to maintain the shape on your own (with a good pair of tweezers, of course) for at least a month. And you get a loyalty card, so it’s kind of like your local coffee place — the tenth one is free.
Update ⁴⁄₂₀₀₉: no more loyalty card. :-(Oh well.
