AVOID THESE LYING FRAUDS! They said one thing before we paid the $ 100 and another right after we paid the $ 100! They have yet to refund the $ 100 we gave them!
Before we submitted an application to rent an apartment online and paid a $ 100 application fee, my wife and I called Joe Wilcox on the phone with speakerphone and asked two questions that were very important to us:
1) Can our lease begin on December 15^th, 2015?
2) Can we include in the lease that there will be no dogs and no cats allowed in the building because I have severe allergies?
Joe Wilcox answered yes to both of these questions. Joe Wilcox assured us that our lease could begin December 15^th, 2015, and that the lease would include a clause stating that no dogs and no cats would be allowed in the building. As we said on the phone, we agreed to pay them the $ 100 fee based on their answers to these questions. If they had said «no» to either of these questions, we would not have applied for this apartment or paid the $ 100 application fee.
After we had this phone conversation and paid $ 100, Joe Wilcox sent us an email on 11÷12÷15 indicating that 1) the start date of our lease had to begin on December 1^st and 2) the no dogs and cats policy would not be included in the lease. This contradicts what we agreed to before we applied for the apartment and paid them the $ 100 application fee. Joe Wilcox misrepresented the offer for the apartment that led us to pay this application fee. So, we want our $ 100 application fee to be refunded.
We asked them for a refund of the $ 100 fee we paid based on Joe’s answers, and they STILL have not given us a full refund of the $ 100 application fee.
On Dec 2^nd, they said in an email that they would give us a partial refund of $ 66 and copies of our credit reports. But we have no need for copies of our credit reports, so we replied that we want a full refund of the $ 100. And they have yet to reply to our email reply on Dec 2^nd even though we have called their office and spoken with both receptionists. We have yet to receive ANY refund of any amount.
AVOID THESE LYING FRAUDS! If you have to deal with them: GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING, AT LEAST IN AN EMAIL! DO NOT TAKE JOE WILCOX AT HIS WORD!

*****These guys were worth each of these 5 stars. First, Joe came over to the house that we were moving from on behalf of our landlord to perform a simple inspection of the property and to take pics. As my wife and I are relatively new to Chicago, we felt like fish out of water trying to figure out where we’d be relocating to. Without even asking, Joe sat down and spent an extra 20 – 30 minutes going over places we should look to relocate. He was always prompt to answer calls/​emails/​texts. Further, we met Andrea on a later date and the same commitment to service was demonstrated. We sincerely appreciate Joe and The Wilcox Company. *****

I rented an apartment from the Wilcox Company in North Center Chicago, IL. They have been the best apartment managers that I have experienced for sure. If anything needed fixing they came immediately to not only take care of the problem but they fixed it better than new. I will miss living for them, but it is not by choice! Definitely look into Wilcox for apartment rentals or real estate needs.

My wife and I used The Wilcox Company to buy our first home. Joe brought years of Chicago real estate experience and knowledge to the table. He was very professional but also made the home buying experience very fun. There was never a moment where we felt rushed or pressured to buy a house or change our budget. He added in the personal attention that you are just not going to receive if you go with a big name real estate company. Even after buying our house, he is still giving us great advice on remodeling and building equity in our house. From beginning to end, we felt comfortable and confident in the home buying process because of Joe. Joe is a true professional.
I would go so far as to say… there is no reason to go anywhere else if you are a buyer or seller. If Joe could not meet your needs, I believe he would point you in the right direction.

I have bought and sold a few places in Chicago. Whether I made money or lost I never really felt like anyone was watching my back until I worked with the Wilcox Co. I’ve passed this place at least a thousand times and I’m glad I gave them a call. I like businesses where the owner’s name is on the door. If you want to work with someone who actually knows what they’re talking about then give them a call. Great experience.

Joe Wilcox came highly recommended to me from a college teammate. He lived up to every expectation. Aside from having years of experience in the Chicago realty market, he has the background of an Inspector and Appraiser. Useful tools to have on your side in the buying process. He respected our criteria and budget all while helping us consider the long-​term and not rush the process. Mary Jo, another Wilcox realtor, we would speak equally as highly of. She too took our best interests to heart and was incredibly friendly in the buying process. I would use The Wilcox Co if we had to do it all over again.

Today I was seeking an appraisal and spoke with Joe Wilcox, the owner. He was very nice and stayed on the phone with me for almost 20 minutes. I am not a real estate agent or mortgage broker, just a condo owner. I was seeking an appraisal due to a unique set of circumstances on my property and Joe was great. He actually talked me out of getting the appraisal despite the fact his company would have made money. He was very honest and kind. I would highly recommend the Wilcox Company
