The Three Dollar Store

I was walking down Halsted today and was lured into this place by the huge, bright, purple signage… and who can resist a store called the THREE DOLLA’ STORE? I believe their grand opening is tomorrow. Their inventory consists of thrifted clothing, shoes, what seemed to be new accessories, and a counter of makeup. I didn’t recognize any of the brands of makeup, but all cosmetics were two for $ 3 so I scooped up four nail polishes (if you know me, you know I’m obsessed with nail polish).
Most of the women’s clothing and shoes looked pretty blah. Nothing that I would really look twice at in a thrift or vintage shop. Basic denim jackets, shirts, jeans, a couple little house on the prairie dresses. I didn’t really look at the men’s side. I can’t believe I’m saying this about a place called «The Three Dollar Store» but I expected more. Probably because of its location in the middle of Boystown near Brown Elephant and some other cool resale shops, and the fact that they had colorful mannequins dressed in underwear and wrapped in decorative lights in their window displays. With blue, half-​naked mannies in your windows, you’re gonna attract a certain type of clientele. And that clientele is ME. I like «different» stuff, if you couldn’t tell already.
I thought I might find more unique clothing, but it doesn’t look like they are very selective with what they put on the sales floor. But in all seriousness, what can you expect from a store where everything costs $ 3 or less? They might need some more time to build a better inventory, so I would go back… I would definitely go back for the nail polish (they had a lot of interesting/​glittery/​metallic colors) since they’re not too far from my apartment.
