The Hair Loft

I’ve always been relatively low maintenance when it came to my hair, but decided that it was time for a change. I came to see Kayla to get my hair highlighted for the first time in my life. Kayla has cut my hair a few times, so I knew that I could be as blunt as necessary to make sure that I wasn’t leading myself into a first-​time highlight disaster.
I bombarded Kayla with pictures and ideas of what I thought I wanted, but also solicited her input as to what she thought would look best. She was very understanding and patient with me, knowing that because I had never colored my hair before, I didn’t know what questions to ask or what specifications I should articulate. She clarified everything, asked me all the right questions, and communicated with me throughout the whole process.
Most importantly, when I showed her pictures of what I liked, she asked me specifically what I liked about it, and what I saw that made me want to use that particular picture as an example (acknowledging that sometimes stylists and clients can look at the same picture and see very different things).
Somehow, throughout my rambling and panicked explanations, she nailed exactly what I was trying to achieve. Perfect amount of light and warmth, but still maintaining my brunette color. At 26 years old, my friends have long-​found their trusted stylist to handle their highlights or coloring without any fear or timidness. There’s something comforting in knowing that I’ve found mine. I really recommend Kayla for any coloring jobs – especially for those who have never colored their hair before. You’re in good hands!

Today was my second visit with Christian at the West Loop location. I’ve been meaning to review since my first visit. Better late than never.
Christian is an extremely well-​respected educator and stylist within the beauty industry, and he consistently provides the best haircuts I have ever had. How did we get so lucky as to have talent like this in Chicago? How did I get so lucky as to have this salon within walking distance from my home?!
What I love about my visits with him is that I can put together a Pinterest board of the general feel that I’m going for, and he’ll nail it. When I first moved to Chicago, I drew a picture of the haircut I wanted on a napkin, and I GOT EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. His consultations are thorough, and his work is customized to your needs/​limitations.
He’s known for being a haircutter, but don’t make the mistake of seeing someone else for color. I’ve really enjoyed previous visits with him (also at the River North location) for hair color, and both visits have been dramatic changes.
I’m a beauty industry professional as well, but I always leave having learned something new from Christian. He makes sure you know what he’s doing, why he’s doing it, what products/​tools he’s using and how to use them. Today, I learned an awesome new trick with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream that I never would have considered before with my hair.
I absolutely love the West Loop location of The Hair Loft, and I recommend Christian to anyone looking for their dream cut/​color.

The Hair Loft continually exceeds my expectations! I’ve been going to Christian for about 5 years and he pushes boundaries while staying true to your personality. He is incredibly talented, knowledgeable and stays current with the latest techniques and trends. The salon takes a genuine interest in its clients, hosting various social activities throughout the year. I’ve recommended THL to many friends and would suggest it to anyone looking for amazing stylists in a casual, relaxed and friendly setting.

The Hair Loft is by far the best salon I’ve ever been to and the only place I will trust with my hair. I previously went to the river north location and now go to the west loop location because it’s closer to school/​work – and for Kayla. Kayla is the BEST; not only does she know what she’s doing, she talks you through the whole process so that you understand what she’s doing, too. She is also super personable and my hair always looks glorious after her touch. She’s also the only person I trust with my eyebrows – usually I come away from an eyebrow wax with a bit of a rash, but that’s never happened after getting my brows done at the hair loft. Maybe that’s just the wax the use, but either way, she takes the extra time and care to make sure I look and feel great. I also had Christian once when Kayla was unavailable and he is just as amazing! He and Kayla are the two best stylists I’ve ever been to, and the only ones I will ever go to.

Love The Hair Loft!!! I started at the River North location, and followed Ben to the new West Loop location. Ben does such a great job and always listens to the ideas I throw at him for my hair. So glad I found my new stylist.

Today was my first visit to The Hair Loft in the West Loop. I had previously gone to the location in River North. The new location is beautiful and rustic with attention to detail. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable regarding products and services. I saw Natalie today and I loved my services! She is truly an artist. She took the time to listen to my ideas and concerns. My hair is beautiful and natural looking. I will definitely be back!

Kayla is by far the best stylist I’ve ever had work on my hurr. Not only is she skilled and knows what she is doing, but she goes out of her way to make sure you feel like royalty at her chair. She’ll even massage your neck and bring you coffee! For a while, most of my college friends were getting their hair done by Kayla, and I have to say, my school was looking FRESH! Don’t let the price rate fool you — Kayla’s quality is worth every penny!
