The Godfrey Hotel Chicago

Due to a miscommunication about a food delivery issue, Godfrey employees — Omar Alaryan & Anthony Nunez — threatened to throw me on the street without a refund & proceeded to tell me that the Godfrey is a dangerous hotel where ppl have been shot before?!! What are they talking about!!!
It all began when I ordered sushi from grubhub to be delivered to my room. Keep in mind there is NO SIGNAGE POSTED ANYWHERE IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT WHICH STATES THAT DELIVERY DRIVERS ARE NOT ALLOWED UP TO GUEST ROOMS.
Also keep in mind, I ordered from grubhub the night before and the driver brought the food right up to my room so how am I supposed to know the delivery policy when it was clearly not an issue the night before?!!
So Omar calls my room and I just got out of the shower and very rudely demands that I need to come downstairs immediately and «collect my food» that is, as he so condescending put it, «stinking up his lobby»!
It’s sushi. Sushi for crying out loud! Sushi has no smell.
I am so confused and bewildered at this point and I’m offended that anybody would speak to me like that over the phone in front of god knows who at the front desk. I go downstairs and he and Anthony are at the front desk and I confront them about this mystery policy which is completely unknown to me. Then all hell breaks loose.
They proceed to accuse me of breaking hotel policy and threaten to throw me out on the street without a refund bc I simply didn’t know your delivery policy. They then said that the policy is in effect bc the Godfrey is a dangerous hotel where ppl have been shot before and it’s for the safety of their guests! As I leave to go back up to my room, I turn around and they’re LAUGHING about the situation. I clearly heard Anthony say «Well I put her in her place.» & «No wonder her dad’s dying».
I am in tears as I write this. The rage is still inside of me that blatant racism like this exists in America. All of this over a grubhub food order!!! It’s embarrassing to not only me but to the Godfrey establishment. I’m not from Chicago, I’m from Dallas and I was there bc my father is dying from degenerate heart disease and I have enough stress to deal with besides the staff treating me like I’m some sort of unwanted parasite just bc I didn’t know their delivery policy due to no posted signage and no one saying anything about it the night before.
Please, I warn people to stay away from this Hotel. Do not spend your hard earned money on a hotel who cannot own up to their mistakes & use hate speech & threatening tactics to harass their customers into silence.

P. s. Before you even proceed to write that generic response Randy G, I brought this entire situation to your attention and you proceeded to do NOTHING about it, so save it bc nobody believes you actually care.

Our servers name was Margarita and she lived up to her name. Every drink was better than the next. Our service was impeccable and she was knowledgeable of the entire menu. Make sure to ask for her!

This is the coziest hotel in Chicago! The Godfrey is a sexy, cozy hotel. Perfect for a staycation! You have the iO Rooftop which has an amazing view.
Giving them 4 stars because it wouldn’t hurt the front desk staff to smile and be welcoming.

The Godfrey is a bundle of contradictions, which is why I’m doing a pro/​con list below. We stayed here recently after finding the hotel on Hotwire, and it was very comfortable and well-​located, but we found the atmosphere to be weirdly young and clubby (which might not be for everyone).
The Pros:
–quiet at night on the 11^th floor, where our room was
–tasetful, contemporary room décor
–super comfortable memory foam mattress on the bed
–pretty tiled shower
–L’Occitaine soaps (I love their soaps, but their French country style does feel off-​brand with the Godfrey’s more contemporary vibe)
–cool panel of light switches next to the bed that controlled the lights in the whole room
–rooms have mini fridges (great for storing leftovers)
–luggage storage available ²⁴⁄₇
–Whole Foods a block away
–short walk to Michigan Ave
The Cons:
–bar on the 4^th floor attracts a young and rowdy clientele, making for an off-​putting, clubby atmosphere at night that is at odds with the hotel’s luxury aspirations
–a tray with dirty dinner plates from the previous guest was left outside our room door for over 48 hours — it was there when we checked in, and only disappeared the morning we checked out 2 days later
–shower leaked onto the floor even with door fully closed
–the towels were scratchy and had lost all their softness
–plastic drinking cups instead of real glasses
–décor accessories like the white toiletry boxes in the bathroom are chipped and showing signs of wear, even though the hotel is pretty new
Basically, there were definitely things we appreciated about this hotel, like the comfy bed and location, but I wouldn’t recommend it to my parents — it feels too clubby and had too many strange details (like the plastic cups) to truly live up to a luxury hotel image.

Omg. I’m so excited!!! Yay!!!
I’m here with my gf. And we are having great times together. Hotel is very clean and modern.
Stuff is professional and really nice.
Roof top:

Whenever I am here, the staff is courteous and friendly. Two gentlemen named Andrew at the front desk, Omar and Ron at the front desk have been very helpful. Nelson in engineering was also very fast and efficient in helping me as well.

I’ve hosted a birthday party and been to the Godfrey a handful of times and had nothing but great experiences until 2 weeks ago when I booked a room for a girl’s weekend. Upon checking out we realized that I left my brand new Bose speaker on the desk. I called, was routed to housekeeping, and left a message which was not returned. Forward 2 weeks later after multiple calls/​emails etc and the speaker was gone with nothing but a Sorry. I understand that the speaker was my responsibility completely but the attention to customer service is extremely poor. Ignoring paying customers is extremely unprofessional and unfortunately I’ll probably never go back to the Godfrey or the IO in the future for this reason. Terrible experience that speaks numbers for the quality of management.

I visited The Grodfrey Hotel for my staycation. Staff is very friendly. The room was nice and cozy but it did get a little cold in the middle of the night. I stayed in a king room on the 6^th. In a previous review I saw someone say that it was loud in the hotel due to the 4^th floor «club» area but that is not true. It wasn’t even loud in the elevator passing the 4^th floor. I could see the rooftop lounge right below me (really close) and it was beautiful. Only if it wasn’t 28 degrees when I was there. The check in and check out process was quick and easy. I’ll definitely be back in a couple weeks! There’s a lot of different restaurants in the area if you don’t eat at the one featured at the hotel.

If you are under 30 and like noisy nights this is a place for you. If you know the value of your money and know that when you pay top dollars it’s for Luxury, details, peace and quiet do not stay at this hotel. They have a bar on the fourth floor that will keep you up until two in the morning very night of the week and if you call reception you’ll see that nobody can help you; Even though you are a paying guest. Details like plastic and paper cups to drink coffee and cocktails should not even be considered in A hotel that charges what this one does; glass and porcelain would have been more adequate. I sincerely think that you’re better off staying somewhere else where you can actually get a good nights sleep.

My stay here was pleasant. I found the room to be comfortable, location is great, ambiance is on point. I’m not the biggest fan on the bathroom layout, especially the shower. I had to put my products on the floor and I felt I had to be super careful about not letting water get all over the floor due to the design of the door.
They have a small, clean gym room which has enough space to do your own workouts. There’s large mirrors and there’s cardio machines (treadmill, elliptical). I actually used the gym at the hotel and I’m super proud of myself! Hahaha.
The rooftop bar area (I|O Godfrey) is awesome and so, so gorgeous. I imagine that it’s super popular during the summer. They also have happy hour (!!!) which includes delicious truffle fries. I definitely consider the rooftop to be the «cherry on top» for this hotel. I suggest actually being presentable before you make your way here. It has a business casual feel.
I would have given the hotel a solid 4 stars but I did have an incident. I requested a toiletry from the front desk and waited in my room for 1.5 hours before heading down to retrieve it myself from them. I’m super disappointed that their staff «forgot» to deliver the item to my room.

Awesome contemporary hotel. Love the design, hospitality and cleanliness. Friendly and courteous staff and in close proximity to some of the best restaurants.

Very clean and in a perfect location. Walking distance from delicious restaurants. (Union Sushi & Barbecue and Eggsperience to name a couple) The hotel workers are extremely friendly. The club on the 5^th floor is pretty awesome as well.

Honestly for the price and the way it carries itself through its marketing and look, its not worth it. I stayed here because I have been to it’s rooftop IO many times and its one of my favorite spots to hit in Chicago, plus the price wasn’t bad.
Service was subpar for a hotel that is trying to be trendy, hip and charging its prices. The staff at front desk really just check you in and out as quick as they can with this boring «I’m better than you attitude». Room service is basically non existent since it’s an outside restaurant (the hotel next door’s restaurant) and only operates during certain hours.
The room is boring. It was clean but wasn’t trendy at all. Only thing I liked about the room was that it had a robe and slippers.
It’s a fairly loud hotel, especially if you had the room I had. It was directly over the rooftop portion of the hotel so I heard music blasting at night. I’m in my 20’s and party so it didnt really bother me, if anything it made me get dressed quicker as I felt I was missing the action but it was ridiculously loud.
Location is great. Close to major hotspots and a great place if you want to have a girls weekend/​party.
Nothing really «bad» with the hotel but nothing great either. Given all the other hotels in Chicago, I rather stay elsewhere and come here to party at their great rooftop.
Also, guests don’t get complimentary access to the rooftop club. I went straight from my room to the lounge only to be turned around and told to go downstairs and wait in line even though I told him I was staying at the hotel and showed him my room key. Luckily I am actually friends with the doorman downstairs, if not they would’ve made me wait in line. Really?!

Very nice hotel! I stayed on the 14^th floor (out of 16), and so it was extremely quiet being so high up from the hustle and bustle of the I|O club on the 4^th. The hotel staff were extremely cool and relaxed, but had that east coast professionalism that you would come to expect from ritzy hotels. Overall, loved the sleek décor downstairs and the adjoining dining facility, the ease of access to the hotel’s club on the 4^th (flash that hotel room card) and the simple but nicely designed room interior. Thanks Godfrey! I’ll be back!

I chose the Godfrey Hotel for my sister’s bachelorette party, mainly because of it’s location and rooftop. I got a regular king sized room for the two of us on Friday night, and a suite for Saturday night. The rooms were modern and clean. Both rooms were pretty specious. The suite had a separate «living room» area. It was really cute and it fit ten girls comfortably (not sleep wise — but during the day/​evening). The bathroom in the regular room was bigger compared to the suite.
The staff at the front desk was pretty nice and accommodating, however, the girl that checked me in did not remember me at all ten minutes later (even though I asked a bunch of questions about switching rooms the next day). It was not a big deal at all — I know there are a lot of guests checking in and out on a Friday, it just stood out to me. She was extremely helpful the next day and was able to get me an early check in for the suite, which allowed me to decorate and set up everything for the event. I greatly appreciated that since regular check in was at 3pm and I was able to check in at 11am. Also, the bell boy, Jose, was the best! He helped me out all three days, checking in and checking out! He was extremely helpful, friendly, and accommodating!

Reminds me of the W hotels. Clean & modern finishes with the room being a tad bit too small but not so much that you feel cramped.
Great River North location to walk to restaurants etc. the rooftop is cool and trendy and worth visiting once or twice.

Truffle fries — the good funky taste from truffle oil — delicious!
Dips and chips — plantains and mushrooms. Odd, but not unbearably so.
Chicken satay — moist and generous. Lightly seasoned.
Spring awakening — refreshing and light (and I mean light)
Pineapple smash — equally refreshing and light (and I mean super light).
Great service — thanks Margarit! Great atmosphere, Good food — drinks are super fresh and pretty — but after a pitcher and 2 smashes, I’m like where’s the buzz?!?

Great stay. The hotel staff was great and answered all of our questions.
We had brunch at the rooftop lounge and wow! Must try!

I came to the Godfrey Hotel with one of my girlfriends for a weekend getaway during the end of March. It’s a great place to stay if you’re on a budget. You’ll really get a bang for your buck! It’s such a beautiful hotel!
The workers were very helpful and accommodated to all of our needs with no hesitation. We were both Chicago newbies, so you bet we flooded them with a lot of questions.
The room was beautiful and the beds were comfy. It had a modern feel to it.
The rooftop bar is awesome. I recommend going during brunch hour. I had one of the best Steak and Eggs Benedict I have ever had! Don’t forget to get a mimosa!
If I ever go back to Chicago, I’m for sure going to stay at the Godfrey Hotel.

I had a great experience here over Valentine’s Day weekend. First of all, the lobby is very modern and sleek. There’s lots of little alcoves and places to sit while you wait. Check in and check out was fast. The rooms were huge, clean, and comfy. Everything about the room have a fresh trendy vibe. The bathroom was super big for being a hotel bathroom. I love that they use L’Occitane toiletries. I also got to check out the spa. It’s smaller than I’d expect for the size of the hotel, but cozy and very nice. There was one issue with someone charging my room for a valeted car, but at check out the charge was removed and it never actually went through on my credit card. I’d definitely recommend a stay here. It’s a great hotel at a great location.

El personal es amable y atento y la wifi gratuíta.
Eso sí, solicitad una habitación en los pisos más altos porque en el cuarto piso hay un club/​discoteca bastante concurrido y puede resultar un poco molesto.
