This historic theater in the South Loop is part of the Columbia College theater department these days, where I saw a bracing revival of Oklahoma. My friend Phil music directed the show and the music was terrific! The theater is well maintained, with comfortable seats, good sight lines, and a wide stage. Tickets are not expensive. They go all out for their performances here – in addition to the large cast, there was a live orchestra. Professional theater this is not, but if you want to see where professional theater comes from, catch a production at the Getz, with the stars of tomorrow.

Saw my daughter play the lead in the Greek tragedy Antigny. The venue was really wonderful — a small black box theater with seating for about 50 or so. There was no bad seat in the house. Great lighting, great acoustics and the acting was wonderful. Columbia College really does theater well.

I have driven past this theatre several times when Congress was congested and always wondered what types of performances took place at this joint. Last weekend, I finally had the pleasure to go see a play, Celestial Bodies, and fell in love with the space. The chairs were quite comfy and there was decent space between my knees and the chair in front of me. The rows were angled rather nicely too! My height challenge can ruin a great night out at the theatre, but I had no problem seeing the stage and actors. The Columbia students acted very well and I was interested the entire time. As for the street parking… not so bad! The theatre is a few streets south of Congress, so there are spaces here and there. Whew!

Wow, I’m impressed! The set design, the nice and clean theater(plus comfy seats), the wardrobe, and the actors make this theatre well worth seeing! It’s nice to see Columbia put a lot of funds into their theater department, though I think these actors could have done just as well without. These college kids performed better then a lot of seasoned actors I’ve seen on stage; handling intense moments, stage malfunctions, tough dialog, and language accents with ease. Easy to get to, parking is abundant, and tickets prices are fair, I just might be coming more often. Though I can’t say I would have found this place if I wasn’t invited from a certain actress in this play. You were wonderful and I hope to see more of your talent on stage! The play: An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde Very well done! Everything I said above was due to this performance.
