I’ve been searching for a hairdresser I like since I moved to Chicago a few years back. thanks to Unilocal reviews I found Abby at the Bird’s Nest. went once for a great cut, and once for awesome color. One of the best parts? They recycle all your hair that is cut off! I think she said its mostly used to make nets for oil spills. how rad is that?
Overall a cute place, decent prices, and nice people. :) I’m so relieved I don’t have to go 9 months between haircuts anymore haha!

I am new to the area and wanted something close by. So lucky to have such a great place 5 minutes from my house! It’s really cute, everyone is very nice, and Abby did a wonderful job with my hair. Glad to have found a good stylist so easy!

So I just moved to Chicago from D.C. and am in the process of finding a new everything. After seeing the great Unilocal reviews and the reasonable prices, I jumped to make an appointment.
First off, Whittl is super annoying and pointless. The website doesn’t have access to the stylists’ schedules, so the salon still has to call you and actually book your appointment. Basically, it’s a way to get the salon to call you.
Second, Chelsea seems like a really nice person. We’re both from the East Coast and bonded over that. However, she was a little too forward with her opinions, considering we just met. During the appointment she told me «I don’t want your hair this color,» and generally seemed to be criticizing my stylist in D.C., who I absolutely adored.
Third, the quality just wasn’t there. I went in for blonde highlights and a base boost. The highlights were fine, I guess — nothing exceptional. I don’t think she left the base boost on long enough because my roots looked EXACTLY the same. I even mentioned multiple times that I hate roots and am pretty OCD about covering them up. When I mentioned that the roots looked pretty dark, she said that I could come in a couple weeks later and she would leave the boost on longer. So basically, I was going to have to live with her mistake and pay for her to fix it. She also told me that I should just learn to live with roots. No thanks. I paid (and tipped) and left.
I ended up having to go back to the salon three weeks because my roots were out of control. This time I went to Salon Blonde and I LOVE it. It was basically the same price, only cost me more because I tipped more, plus they have free wine/​cocktails!

The Bird’s Nest is awesome– I desperately needed a hair ‘boot camp’ (think multi-​colored, grown out ombré/​asymmetrical bob all in one… yikes…) and Allison delivered! She was so knowledgeable, she talked me through everything she did; she was honest and told me the best options for my hair, and the execution was to die for! I am so happy, I feel like a new person and am LOVING my new hair. The place was bright, clean and very cute. Everyone was friendly, and I felt right at home from the minute I walked in. After trying out salons in the Logan Square area, I have made the decisions that Allison is going to be my go-​to stylist from now on. I would recommend this place to all my guy and girl friends– you will walk out of there looking like a million bucks!

I was recommended to Brandon by a friend and was told he works wonders with blondes. I’ve finally found my hair husband! He changed my color from bleached blonde to a delicious strawberry, which suits my skin coloring and is overall better for my hair. He introduced me to the base bump, which is genius. Brandon is so skilled at his craft that I needn’t go into the salon as frequently, because my hair looks better longer, which also saves money. The owner is a pip and a pleasure to be around. She recommended I order in the Wrightwood Salad from Dunlay’s next door. Good lookin’ out! The salon is dog friendly.

The Bird’s Nest is awesome. Perfectly located in the heart of Logan Square, it blends right in with its hipster and trendy vibe, but still friendly and very welcoming. My husband and I have both been going to the Bird’s Nest since we moved to the neighborhood in November. My husband gets his hair cut by Allison and I get mine done by Brandon. They’re both amazing — very talented, very friendly, and it’s so nice to be able to have an actual conversation rather than dying through 30 minutes of awkward small talk that you get at so many other salons. While everyone at the Bird’s Nest clearly is up to date with fashion and extremely talented with hair, there is no feeling of intimidation and no air of judgment. They’re just as happy to give a middle aged bob cut as they are to give a cut straight off the runway.
The salon has a local feel to it and with only 3 chair stations, it’s intimate. You feel like everyone knows you when you walk in. It’s basically the salon version of Cheers. This is the type of place that’s happy to offer you a drink while you’re there — my husband is always happy to partake in a beer. Since I’ve been pregnant almost every time I’ve been there, it’s been just water for me.
Allison is great about offering new styles for my husband that are more trendy than what he’s used to but still easy to manage and within his comfort zone. He’s at a comfortable level with her and just lets her do her magic every time he goes in.
Brandon has done my hair to perfection every time, giving me the perfect amount of layers, the perfect length, and massaging and conditioning that makes my hair glow.
It’s easy to make an appointment just a few days in advance and I’ve never had to wait when I’m there. Every time I’ve been in and out in less than an hour, completely pleased and feeling beautiful (which is hard to feel when you’re 8 months pregnant but Brandon made it happen).
We plan to be in Logan Square for a while and can’t imagine getting our hair done anywhere else as long as we’re in the city.

Abby was amazing! I was nervous coming here for my first time because I wanted to make a big change, but she was friendly and patient, and I love that she took her time to explain to me what she was thinking/​doing. The whole process really put me at ease, and the end result is fabulous! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience :) Thanks!

Allison is beyond. I first went there to get my hair cut for a donation. I’ve had terrible experiences with this before but she helped relieve some of my stress. She listened to me, even tho I’m not that savvy in describing what I want, and gave me a haircut that was great. Even better was that they’re so close by. She taught me a few things about my hair and mentioned that they do kids’ haircuts too.
Which leads me to my second time there. My son turned two and I wanted a fauxhawk for him. He’s usually chill but was acting like a diva which didn’t faze her at all. She was quick and worked around his crabbiness. Plus both haricuts were super reasonably priced.
I’ll definitely come back. Allison is great!!!

This salon is great everyone is super sweet and I have yet to get a bad cut. All of the stylists are great and friendly. The owner is really nice as well. After years of bad cuts and crappy salons it’s a treat to find a place I love

Huge Brandon fan. I’m sort of clueless when it comes to style stuff and, after a couple cuts, I trust his judgement.

Absolute best haircut I’ve had in a very long time. Gina and her crew are fantastic! It’s been hard to find a place where I have total confidence in the stylist cutting my hair! I’ve found it!

Chelsea did an incredible job styling my hair, she did a cut and ombré style color. Chelsea was incredibly professional and she listened intently when I was explaining the «look» I was trying to go for – and she executed it perfectly! I’ve never been so happy walking out of a salon before!

It is difficult for me to be happy after a hair cut by someone other than my normal hair stylist; however Abby at Birds Nest did not disappoint. I had to find a new salon in the city because my normal hair stylist is just too far in the suburbs.
I loved that when I walked in (after calling for a last minute appointment I might add) I was offered tea, water, coffee, or beer.
Abby gave the best head massage I’ve ever had while shampooing my hair. It was so good that even if my hair cut was awful, I would go back.
Abby has hair like mine and recognizes that it’s hard to have full body and volume with semi-​long, thinner hair. She cut it in a way that I was able to keep my length but also have some volume. I also loved the way she cut my bangs.
Can’t say I have one complaint!

I love this adorable little salon! Everyone is so friendly and the products are fabulous. My stylist, Allison, is the BEST!!! I recommend her to anyone that loves to walk out of the salon feeling gorgeous. Great at cut, color and waxing, and always knows what products to recommend in order to maintain your style/​color to the max. She has a lovely personality to boot!

It’s not often I walk out of a salon being 100% happy but that’s exactly what I told my stylist, Chelsea!
Honestly, I have been cheating on my stylist for some time now trying to find someone who will do the cut I want and I definitely found one at Nest Salon! After hearing about it from a friend who read rave reviews in Allure magazine– decided to make an appointment and 30 minutes later I was sitting on the chair and enjoying a cut that fit what I was looking for!
The salon itself is clean, cozy, with its own theme and the stylists are friendly and know what they are doing! Having Asian hair, I am always skeptical but would definitely recommend Chelsea!
