This restaurant has the worst customer service. Not even worth eating there. The food isn’t good either.

This café seemed very busy for a rainy Monday, so I popped in to have a coffee. I ended up have Huevos Rancheros, too. My eggs were cooked perfectly and served with warm corn tortillas, rice, beans, cheese, and three different kinds of salsas. It was a bargain price of $ 5.50 for the amount of food, and high quality. Great atmosphere, and impeccable service. Gracias.

2 Unilocal reviews? REALLY only 2!!! Granted it’s early in 2012, but my gut is that Taqueria Teloloapan will be one of my best discoveries of the year. First off this is a real place for real people. I love Birrieria Zaragoza, but they are a little too aware of how cool they have become, not to mention their Michelin mention. Sure BZ looks real, but TT is the real deal. First off, the woman who owns/runs the restaurant makes you feel welcome in a place not used to hosting gringos. The menu is simple, all the standards of a neighborhood Taqueria, but the execution is outstanding. Their taco’s are pure. They don’t mess with cheese and sour cream; just tortilla, heaps of meat and little onion and cilantro. For me the mark of a great Taqueria is the preparation of the Pastor and theirs was exceptional; the perfect combination of salty, fatty, spicy and sweet. It was so good, I ordered a second. The Asada was rich and still steaming when it landed on my plate. The Chile Relleno was good but similar to what I can get elsewhere. Only let down was the salsa. Not bad, but nothing special. Oh and yeah, dinner was $ 15 for 2. I have a hunch the food blogs will be writing about this one soon. Tip: If you ask, they will make fresh tortilla’s for your taco’s. There are few things as good in life as a fresh tortilla.

Love this place. The salsas that come with the chips are spicy, and blended to a smoothie-like consistency, a nice touch that sticks out in my memory. The burrito was perfectly grilled and assembled with great craft, making it a big success on the texture front. And the tacos(pork and steak) were very tasty. During his first bite my homey stopped chewing with a mouthful of taco in his mouth, looked at me, and just said, ‘Yeah.’ Translation: the Teloloapanians know their stuff.

My measure for hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints will always be Taqueria El Asadero. This place used to be the 2nd Taqueria El Asadero location. When it went under new ownership a few years ago it totally went to shit. When I recently noticed the name change and interior facelift I decided to give it another shot… I’m glad I did. My standard order by which I measure the quality of such joints is: –tacos carne asada –chips –rice & beans –guacamole The carne asada taco steak was decently seasoned and well-grilled…you gotta have a little char goin’ to get the right flavor. Their standard dressing is onion, cilantro and cheese… just the way it should be. The chips are homemade as they should be. They clearly use a thinner tortilla so you don’t get that bubbling and separation I love about the Asadero chips(I have found those at Pollo Campero recently), but they are sufficiently greasy and flavorful. The rice and beans are fair. Both could stand to be a little more flavorful and the beans could use some melted cheese on top. The guacamole had WAY too much lime in it, but I imagine would be really good if they eased up on it I am really happy to have an acceptable Mexican-fast-food-fix joint close to home again and welcome Telolaopan to the ‘hood!
