Carla is great at what she does; an expert waxer and comforting companion who can coach even the most nervous (me!) first timer through a Brazilian wax. Her friendly attitude and clear directions and explanations through the process made it less painful than I feared. Would definitely come back!

Not too clear on the name of the place, but overall, very good. I visited Carla for a Brazilian and she did a good job, very quick. I got the chocolatini and i think the wax helps with the pain– a little! but really, brazilians are painful in general. I liked that she was quick and the salon was clean, she didnt double dip and didnt use the same wax papers over. She’s also good with timing and regions, didnt go over the same area twice, used her hands to help with skin pain. Overall, professional and good quality. I’ll be back Carla, thanks!

Carla is a hair removal pro! She is quick, painless, and highly skilled. She also has some of the best deals in the city! As far as the negative complaints about the room, Carla has such a fun personality, keeps you distracted, and makes you feel comfortable during a service that is going to be awkward anywhere. When a service is done efficiently within minutes, it’s really hard to complain about a room. At high end spas/​salons, you’re not paying for the service, but for higher operation costs & expenses. Consider skill when you have hot wax dripping in sensitive areas.

I bought a Lifebooker for this place for an eyebrow Sculpt. Carla did it! I happened to go on Valentines Day for which I received a glass of champagne and a goody bag with yummy candy. Carla and her daughter has also decorated the space all valentines day ish! Nice touch! She did an excellent job on my brows and I will definitely be coming back.

This was absolutely the best spa experience ever! I had the pleasure of having the owner perform my services and they do it all, Waxing, eyelashes, facials (omg the 14kt gold facial is phenomenal) !!! my makeup that was applied was flawless !!! The price was reasonable no problem parking downtown. The service was also provided with light snacks and the ambiance was soooo relaxing !!! I have found my new home to care for all, y personal needs!!! Thanks for your professionalism and exceptional work ethic in providing my services I received So many compliments!!! Oh btw the skin problems and sagging of my skin went away with the 14kt gold facial!!! Kudos

I just received my first ever brazilian wax from Carla. I have never had a brazilian or bikini wax before so I looked like a 70’s pornstar lol. Carla took great care of me and made me feel comfortable and at ease, my pain was minimal, all of my hair was neatly removed, and she gives great instructions on caring for your waxed areas. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing which helped because I was a nervous wreck!

Trust the professional with many years of experience. I take back my rating and give Carla at 220 Beauty Bar 5 stars. She is very accommodating and patient. Carla has a warm and inviting personality. She decorates her space to be welcoming and to soothe her customers. I thank you for being a friendly person and wish others will continue to be loyal customers.
The dim-​lit room with nothing to cover yourself with was a huge turn off. Also, I agree with the non-​descriptive building being hard to locate. The ground floor was going through a lot of construction and I couldn’t even get in until one of the workers opened the door for me.
Carla provided good distracting small talk but the service itself was nearly painless. She also let me get waxed even though I was there a little earlier than my appointment.
After «inspecting» myself, I thought that I was hair-​free. But with all the loose hairs on my skin/​clothes it was hard to tell (and I couldn’t touch or brush off the hair because my skin felt raw) if I had any areas with hair still on me.
When I was in the shower, I did notice she missed some areas. I wasn’t informed of coming back a week later for a clean-​up service.
Carla’s really nice and seemed to know what she was doing. I did enjoy the chocolate wax. She did a nice job and always asked «Are you doing OK» and told me to breathe before she pulled the strip. I used a LivingSocial voucher but it was a bit of a hassle to schedule through Schedulicity.

Originally, I went here with a YouSwoop Voucher. I enjoyed the Chocolate Wax sooooooo much that I prepaid for my next 6 waxes on the spot. Ms Missy was very professional. She engaged in small talk to distract you from what’s going on (a plus and must have for me). The room was clean, she did NOT DOUBLE DIP (which I really enjoy). Last but not least, she was very thorough. Not a hair in sight. During the process she would ask are you okay and explain step by step the next process. This is by far one of best waxes I had in a long time. Did I forget to mention, as painless as a wax can be. Trust me ladies, I been waxing for 7 years, and the Chocolate Wax is the best. It did not irritate my skin, and I did NOT develop ingrown hairs or bumps afterward. Oh, and she cleans the area with aloe when she’s done too.
p. s. I had to reschedule my appointment several times due to last minute meetings. She completely understood. One day, she had a cancellation, and I ran over on lunch. I was in and out in no time. Thanks.

I get Brazilian waxes every 4 – 6 weeks so I know what to expect. My Brazilian waxing experience with Carla was just OK. The waxing room is literally located right next to the waiting area. As others have stated, I did not like the fact that she did not provide a towel of some sort to cover up when you lay on the table waiting for her. I ended up taking off my sweater to cover up because I didn’t feel comfortable being exposed while the door swings opens before the waxing process began.
Carla is friendly and personable and I like the chocolate wax she uses. She doesn’t double-​dip and the entire process is done in about 10 – 15 minutes flat. However, she left behind multiple long hairs that could have easily been waxed off. I’m used to having every possible hair waxed off (except for the tiny ones that are too short to be waxed). I almost want to get my own wax to wax the rest off myself because it feels incomplete.
I’m happy I had a LivingSocial coupon because her quality of service isn’t worth the full price. I’ll give her two stars for the convenient location and her friendly personality, but I’d go elsewhere for a quality Brazilian wax.

I purchased 2 Brazilian waxes at youswoop. I loved it. I had an appointment with Missy and I was pleasantly surprised (I’d had my share of terrible experiences). I will definitely go back.
The building the studio is located in is under a reconstruction, so the outside doesn’t look very appealing.

1. I have only paid full price for a Brazilian once in my life… and that was my first wax 2 years ago. I had a good experience so I’ve been waxing (albeit not regularly) ever since.
2. In my mind, the cost of a Brazilian has been rightsized to Groupon/​YouSwoop/​Living Social/​Yelp rates. This means that I only go when I find a deal and read enough positive reviews about the location.
3. Before today, I only had 2 locations where I would comfortably and confidently go back to again and again (provided there was a deal).
4. Ms. Carla was simply amazing so I now have a 3^rd location to frequent for my waxes!
So I clearly had a deal to go to Carla at LaFace and it was well worth it. When I booked she said that it would only take 20 mins (I was taking a break from work for the appointment so I was concerned). I made a face and rolled my eyes thinking that yeah right… she’ll be torturing me for much longer, but no lie I was in and out within 20 mins. I was so shocked and pleasantly surprised.
The studio is very small/​intimate/​whatever you want to call it, but the waxing room has plenty of space and light. Carla uses a chocolate wax (never heard of it), so it smells really good and helps keep your mind off of the treatment too! The process was really quick. She tells you to take deep breathes throughout and makes sure you are as comfortable as you can be. This might be TMI, but she also has the best technique I’ve experienced for getting your backside without you having to awkwardly and uncomfortably stay in doggy-​style position. Score!
My last Brazilian was amateur night (I just realized I never wrote a review!), while Carla was professional, quick and as painless as a Brazilian can be. I’m a fan!

I went to LaFace after purchasing a YouSwoop for a Brazilian. It is located in a nondescript building which I initially walked past.
Echoing a fellow Unilocaler’s review: «The room was bare and bright. No soft light or ambiance music. She had me undress while she was still in the room and asked me to lay on the table. I would have preferred to cover up with something to at least portray the image of modesty, but unfortunately, there was nothing.»
Overall, it was ok, but I think I’d rather be in a more private, zen-​like, dim atmosphere.

Carla is fantastic, sweet, comforting, amazing, lovely! I had purchased a Youswoop a few months back and decided I should go in now to try them out. I agree, when you first show up, the building is very non-​descriptive, but I’m used to that (my favorite yoga studio is in a professional type building as well).
I had booked online and it mentions the suite number. I made sure to call as well and left a message letting them know I would be using my youswoop.
I arrived early and no one was there. A few moments later Carla arrived. She automatically apologized and asked if she was late, no, I was over 20 minutes early. When you go in, it is very zenlike. There are chakra images in the room, calming setting. Carla is very professional. During my eyebrow wax she talked with me, reminded me the breathe, and mentioned how my skin was reacting. After my eyebrow wax I did the brazillian. I have had bikini waxes before but never the full brazillian. She was FANTASTIC! She made sure I was breathing here as well, distracted me, made me laugh and feel VERY comfortable during the process.
She goes above and beyond and does whatever she can to ensure a positive experience. I will be going back for sure!

I unfortunately was one of the unlucky girls that had an awful Brazilian experience. I pretty much received two Brazilian waxes in one sitting. I know that sounds crazy, but it really did happened. I liked the salon and the people who worked there, they were extremely nice and very accommodating.
The girl that was giving me a Brazilian wax was still in beauty school. She was super sweet and it seemed like she knew what she was doing. As she was waxing, she had a worried look on her face. At the end of the wax she decided ask for help from the owner. The owner had to re-​do my entire Brazilian wax and I can’t even tell you how much pain I was in. The girl kept apologizing to me so I tried to look strong in front of the both of them as the owner waxed me for a second time. This was probably one of the worst Brazilian wax experiences I’ve ever had in my life. At first I didn’t want to write this review because I really like the owner and her staff, but I think people should hear this story.

I visit LaFace Café for a Brazilian waxing after buying a livingsocial voucher. I was a bit nervous as I was a waxing virgin, but the livingsocial deal was too good to pass up and hey, you only live once.
This place was a bit difficult to find– I finally tracked down the address using my GPS. LaFace Café was situated on the second floor of a nondescript building. I had to scroll through a phone list at the door to find first where they were located and then I attempted to navigate through literally a maze to find the place. Once I found the magic door, I was greeted by a sweet young woman. She had me fill out paperwork and offered me some tea while I completed the forms. The entire Café was smaller than my one bedroom apartment. Then I was shown to the waxing room…

The payment part of the whole ordeal was actually the most awkward part of the process. I only had a $ 20 (stupid to not bring tip money, I know) and she didn’t have any change. My aesthetician then told me that there was a bodega downstairs where we could go get change. So she locked up the studio and we made small talk for about 10 minutes while we waited in line behind several families for change.
Overall, not bad. I’m not sure if I would return.

I visited LaFace Café for a Brazilian waxing as I had purchased a voucher through livingsocial. It was a little hard getting through to them as I always got their voicemail and it would take them 2 – 3 days to get back to me. However once the appointment was made, everything was fine.
As mentioned in previous reviews, the studio is located in a nondescript building. The lady did a great job and was very thorough. She was very friendly and chatty, which made the whole process a little less daunting.

I really wanted to like this place, because it’s a small business and the are trying hard. I went here for a brazillian wax with a living social deal. I’m a waxing veteran, so I knew what to expect.
Firstly, the building is unlabeled (other than the address) and locked, so you have to scroll through the keypad to find someone to buzz you in. When I finally found the place in the building, I walked in and was shocked to see how tiny it was. It’s one room with a curtain, and then one other small room that has 2 waxing tables in it.
I kind of wish they would give you something to put over yourself at first. I know they are going to see it all, but you are right in front of a door and when they open it, everyone in the other room can see you. Awkward. A towel or something would have been nice, even if it was just for when they opened the door. At least when I was there, I was the only person other than the 2 staff.
The girl I had was very nice and explained everything to me. That’s one good thing. The problem was that she waxed in a direction perpendicular to the hair. So of course, a lot of it didn’t come out at first. She went over the same spot with the wax multiple times. I feel like she kept making excuses for why it wasn’t working.
When I got home, I noticed blood on my skin there. I’ve never had that happen before. I was really red and irritated all night. Usually, after a couple hours I feel fine. However, a day later and it’s still flaming red and tender.
Bottom line: I wouldn’t go back.
UPDATE: someone did contact me to offer me a free service, which I appreciated. However, I’ve now developed some sort of infection there. I’ve had waxes dozens of times and this have never happened before. I won’t be returning for the free service.

This is a little late, as I went right after the Groupon deal. I have been to very nice spas in several cities, and have paid up to $ 120 for a brazilian wax. So, when I saw the deal, I jumped on it hoping to have a good experience. I must say I did:) What I wanted was something that was as painless as possible, quick, clean, and thorough — which it was!

I had wax services performed here and the aesthetician who performed my service was truly professional. I was comfortable and relaxed and I mention it was my first time there and I will definitely be back. Now if only I could remember her name. I will have to provide an update later with that info!

I was a little hesitant at first, due to the negative review, and because of it’s location. However, my mind was put at ease as soon as I walked in. The owner is really nice, and does a thorough job.
Compared to the other waxing salons (Michigan Ave, Roscoe Village, Wicker Park) it is not much different.
Atmosphere: Clean, Zen-​like, calm lighting and music, coffee/​tea available, intimate.
I plan to go back.
