Sun + Moon Catering is where savvy Chicago corporate event and meeting planners come for contemporary cuisine that is freshly prepared, beautifully presented and tastes delicious.

What’s new for 2016? We are featuring a healthy and delicious ingredient each month and offering some information about the ingredient, a recipe for you to make at home and share with friends and we will be adding some new menu items featuring the ingredient. Visit our website and consider signing up for our e-​news. You will receive a post each month with the featured ingredient and a link to the recipe.

Sun + Moon is proud to serve a diverse group of clients for a variety of occasions. Our food is as appealing to the eye as it is to the palate. We skillfully blend texture, color and taste into every dish we create.

History

Established in 1996.

Sun + Moon started as a gourmet deli located in Wicker Park. It was known for it’s healthy menus, dishes made with care using fresh seasonal ingredients presented in high style. Soon customers started requesting for catering services and that’s how the business evolved into an Exclusively Corporate catering company.

Business Owner

19 years ago, architect Gerty Leong decided to draw a new set of blue prints for her future and follow her lifelong passion for food. Her dream was to create a kitchen ripe for creative culinary minds, and capture the elusive transcending characteristics of cooking and entertaining. Four years after opening a successful deli in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, Gerty decided to close the deli doors and focus exclusively on catering. She found that catering was a place where she could express her appreciation for all things, creative, designed and delicious.

I found Sun + Moon Catering about 5 years ago. I was searching for an exceptional caterer to make a lasting impression on my clients. Gerty (the owner) delivered that and more. Not only did she work with my clients budget and allergy restrictions, she delivered (herself) a beautiful array of appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts.
Gerty and her staff are easy to work with, punctual, and friendly. They continue to impress me and my clients to this day with their delicious food and outstanding presentation

The food we received at our event was extremely lacking compared to some other reviews, pictures of the menu, and descriptions. My boss booked this caterer based on the reviews, but it looks like he won’t be using them again.
We were all very disappointed in the sloppy appearance of the platters, not to mention everything tasted as bad as it looked. We left there hungry, and that is the last thing an employer wants to happen.
It seems as though it’s not very consistent how the other reviews state because we were expecting top of the line presentation and flavor for the top dollar this caterer charges, and I’m confused as to how there are such varied reviews from both the spectrum.
Either way, we won’t be seeing their food again and we’re pretty relieved that there are many other caterers in Chicago that will provide food that is true to their word.

Sun + Moon has had a 15 year relationship with the company I work for. We entertain clients from all over the globe and we have high standards for food quality and presentation.
In my 4 years w/​my company, S+M is the epitome of everything we look for in a catering vendor no matter the size of the event. Gerty is flexible and is willing to work with you on your budget as well as meal planning. She takes the time to ask if there are any dietary restrictions. She has the ability to provide delicious food no matter what the food allergy is. There are very clear lines of communication on delivery times and everything else.
And consistency… I’ve never seen another caterer with such consistent food and professional service. Everyone in our office as well as our clients loves Gerty’s food. It’s beautiful and the quality is top notch. No matter if it is breafast, lunch, snack, dinner, or evening event, everything always shows up picture perfect.

I regularly order from Sun + Moon for our client breakfasts & lunches and am never disappointed. Gerty’s meals are consistently fantastic — everything from boxed lunches to warm breakfast tarts (yum) to lunch buffets are presented beautifully and taste even better.
I appreciate that I can work with Gerty on a menu for an event and she is so good that I know it will please both my boss and clients without giving it a second thought.
Her food is organic wherever possible and it comes through in the taste and quality. I highly recommend giving her an idea of what you’d like and letting her run with it — chef knows best! She’s also local, so that means when clients ask where lunch came from we can brag that it’s a Chicagoan, you can’t get food like this from just anywhere!
I’m looking forward to hiring Gerty again and again, in fact we have 3 more days already on her calendar :).

I recently used Sun + Moon for an all-​day meeting in my office. I was looking for something fresh, healthy, and sustainably produced (i.e. a departure from the usual downtown corporate catering). Gerty didn’t disappoint. The food was delicious and tastefully presented. She was also able to easily accommodate the dietary restrictions among my group. Additionally, despite a stated policy, she delivered our breakfast and lunch orders, which were slightly under the minimum order for delivery. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience and will use Sun + Moon again in the future.

Whenever we have photo shoots at the space, or just want to impress clients for lunch, we Always order from Sun and Moon. It’s so easy, and sooooo delicious! I also always recommend their services to corporate clients who utilize our space for meetings. After the meetings I always ask the person in charge how everyone like their lunch, and seriously, every single time, the group is blown away by the freshness, uniqueness, and tastiness of the food. The food is always dropped off on time, always set up neatly and professionally, and always prompt for any pick up they may need to do.
I would totally recommend them to any business that wants a change from the heavy catered lunches a lot of caterers deliver. They always use fresh ingredients, they are environmentally friendly, and you just have a good feeling after you eat their food!

There is one word that comes to mind when I think of Gerty Leong and her amazing staff at Sun + Moon: dedicated.
Of course, other words I can add would be: high quality, friendly, knowledgeable, savvy, delicious, green… the list could go on and on.
I was very happy with my last event. We made the commitment with Gerty and her staff to keep the entire event green… and it was accomplished! I didn’t know it was possible, but even the cocktail glasses were compostable. Amazing!
Put simply, Sun+Moon provides you with superb catering– whether ordering box lunches for an executive meeting, breakfast items for a large group, or hosting a reception for hundreds, you can be quite sure that Sun+Moon will deliver with amazing service.

I first noticed Sun & Moon while joylessly walking down Lake one afternoon. Instantly, my mood brightened as I was psyched that we would have such a clean, cool restaurant opening so close to work. Alas, no restaurant opening as this is a catering joint. And a great one at that!
We often order their premium lunch boxes for client lunches (people love the choice and the quality). The food is a hit and the cookies are outrageously good. We have also ordered catered breakfast (hot) and lunches (cold). Fresh salads, great pastas and roll sandwiches are all really tasty.
Why, just moments ago my clients found me to thank me for providing such a delightful lunch that energized and delighted them. No better compliment than when the food you choose pleases others!
