Recently called to get an appointment with Luis. They informed me that they were closing this location. I was bummed but no worries! I found Luis who is now at Spoil Me Salon on Broadway in Uptown!

Used a Groupon «Now» deal– $ 36 for a haircut and they were able to get me in within a few hours. I specifically asked for someone who could do really short hair, like a pixie cut, although I’m not sure if I just got who was available or not. Either way, I got a fabulous haircut the day I decided I wanted it. I went from a slightly-​longer-​than chin-​length bob to a pixie cut! The stylist, Maria, was meticulous about every detail. I was so glad that she obviously had experience with this type of cut. There’s not a lot of room for error when you’re cutting all your hair off!

I fell in love with Steven Papageorge Salon after having my sharp bob from a stylist who wasn’t cutting it evenly corrected there. I know bobs require a lot of work, and Steven Papageorge always gave me beautiful, consistent results. When I decided to grow my hair out (after not having long hair in almost a decade), they guided me through the process, and were very honest about any changes or products I needed or did not need.
Also, since I had a bad experience with lightening my very dark hair at a different salon once before, I was quite set on never doing it again. When growing out my hair, Analie suggested I lighten it a little to bring out my eye and skin color. She really earned my trust through the bob years, so I thought I’d give it another try, and basically gave her free reign over color. She did such a great job with lightening and balayage, I’ve become very open to dying my hair, and love the lighter change she brought on. I’m obsessively particular about my hair — I’ve cried over bad haircuts before — but that’s never happened at Steven Papageorge. That’s why I love them, I always leave the salon with my hair looking amazing!
It was also the first place I ever had my eyebrows shaped. I’m always paranoid about someone messing up my brows, and always do them myself. However, Caroline made them look fantastic!
I visited Steven Papageorge for gloss, blowouts, and curls too, and prefer to get my hair products there. I find the staff knowledgable, friendly and focused on getting things right. I actually commute from the other side of the city to go there — it’s always worth the trip! I’ve been going to Steven Papageorge, and no one else, for almost three years now!

I went to this salon once and had a great experience, I saw they had a groupon for $ 40 worth $ 80 and thought it was a great deal so I got it. When I called the salon to use it they informed me is said «new client only,» I they asked them if there was anything they could do since I only got this groupon out of excitement to go back and the woman on the phone proceed to tell me how that would be bad for their business in a very rude manner. I do understand a business and how to right people when they fee wronged to build client loyalty and a good reputation.
Consider it a loss of my business and loyalty.

Here’s the scoop on this one. I have blonde, fine hair and am EXTREMELY picky about my stylist. I started getting a base bump for my roots (shh don’t tell anyone!!) and highlights to keep that ditsy blonde thing going for me.
So sometimes between highlights I will just get the base bump to hold me over a few weeks. Keep in mind, many stylists are not only so snobby about doing this without highlights, but charge a fortune and don’t even do a good job.
Not here! I saw Jamie and seriously this girl does the best base bumps in the city. And is so sweet about it too! Steveb Papageorge gets 5 stars in my book thanks to Jamie and her incredible base bumps and overall fabulousness in general.

I’ve been here three times to get my hair cut, and while the girl who has cut my hair here is perfectly lovely, I have decided I simply can’t come here anymore.
1. The parking is somewhat difficult, being right in the middle of downtown Evanston, though this is the least of their problems.
2. It really irritates me when I go somewhere where I’m forced to pay for parking at a meter (because thats all the parking there is near there), only to have to wait longer than the amount of change I have on my meter to get my hair done because I arrived on time only to wait for an extra 30 minutes. This has happened to me every time I’ve gone there, and I don’t know if its just the girl I went to see or if these people have a serious scheduling problem.
3. Either way, the staff will act like its no big thing, and if you ask them whats going on or if they’ve forgotten about you, you’ll be rudely answered. Every single time. You will also be looked at like an alien from another planet if you ask about putting the tip on your credit card (they don’t do that here) or if you offer the desk attendant the money to give to your stylist for you (apparently they don’t do that either, even though I’ve experienced many places where this is the norm).
Honestly because of all these things, I just feel uncomfortable being in there at all. Especially when I have to get past all this and thats not even relevant to how good of a hair cut I can get there. Its ok, but I’ve had just as good cuts at other places, and these other little things make me not want to be there enough to move on somewhere else.

I have been familiar with this place since 2009. I was always in search for a good hair cut, and it was so hard to find the right place. As a guy you have limited options, and you never get exactly what you want. I felt a But my wife convinced me to go here… and that was the best decision ever.
Ziggy is the best hands town. You get exactly what you want, and he will spend the time doing it. Then he will teach you how to style it and maintain it. And they will make sure you walk out of there feeling like a million bucks.
Hands down the best place I have ever been to… and trust me I have been to many places. My wife always goes to Anna Lee, and I go to Ziggy… i am really sad now because I have been out of town for a while and I am desperately in need of a hair cut… and i know I wont ever get anything even near to what Ziggy has to offer.
You will not regret going here.

It sounds like a pizzeria or John Hughes movie character, but it’s really a great salon with the best stylist in the city.
If you’ve been looking for the most perfect color and cut in the world, then this salon is your place and Sonya is your stylist. She’s cool and sassy and that’s how your hair will look like when you leave her chair. Not only does she know how to style it, she knows the science of hair and will explain to you how the molecules react with temperature and why curls won’t hold in certain types of conditions. This makes her great at recommending product and ways to style your locks.
Sonya, the hair guru. I’m sure there’s a better sounding tagline than that, but for now, that’s what I’m calling her.
And she has awesome taste in music, so you’ll want to move while she’s cutting your hair. Just tap your toes.

Sometimes a girl has to stray from her neighborhood salon in order to discover how much she really loves it. I am sorry Sejour. I cheated on you, but it won’t happen again!
So Steven Papageorge: Why the 2 stars? I showed up 20 minutes early for my 3PM appointment only to find the salon closed, with a sign posted: «until tomorrow.» The hours posted in the window read «12 –8.» I called the salon, got the voice mail, left a message, waited 5 minutes, and then (since it appeared clear that the place was closed) turned around and went home. A few minutes after 3PM the salon called. Apparently I was the 1^st appointment of the day and the place wasn’t opened until exactly 3PM (not smart for business). Disgruntled, I drove back. You might be wondering if I was offered some small token of compensation, given my time and inconvenience… the answer is no. This is just my personal opinion, but that is just bad business.
Now as for the hair, my stylist was pleasant and gave me her best. My hair turned out OK… but the results were no better than those I could achieve at my neighborhood salon (which is much less pricey and way more efficiently run).
Sorry Steven Papageorge Salon, for almost 50 bucks a haircut, I expect more. Bottom line– open shop at least 20 minutes before your first appointment of the day (this is just smart business)…and if you are going to open your doors seconds before your first appointment (which is a bad idea), at least post a sign in the door letting people know whats up.

Devin does my hair and she is crazy talented. I told her I was up for a change and would be willing to try whatever she recommended and she knocked it out of the park.
Devin really knows her stuff and is really friendly – everyone there is really friendly – so it is easy to be comfortable and enjoy the experience.

Jamie at PapaGeorge Salon is fantastic. I had been naturally blonde all my life and never touched my hair with any type of dye or bleach, and then one day I decided to dye it dark brown (out of a box). I did this for about 2 years and then was ready to go back to my natural hair color.
I told Jamie that I wanted to get it as close as possible back to my natural color and I didn’t want it to have that bleached blonde look. She was great about explaining the process since I had never been through it and told me that it would be hard to get it back to a natural blonde right away with my hair being dyed so dark but she would do her best.
She did highlights and was able to get it very close to my natural color and then worked to put some all over color to make sure it didn’t have a bleached look. She told me to take a few days to see how I liked it and if I didn’t I could come back in. After a few days I realized it was a little blonder than I liked so I called her up, she brought me back in and added some darker all over color and got it to exactly what I wanted. She is amazing. Over the past two years she’s been working with me to adjust the color to get it as close to the color of my roots as possible so then one day I won’t have to highlight my hair.
I guarantee that she will understand what you are looking for in terms of color and will do everything she can to make it exactly how you want it. She’s the best!

After purchasing my sweet Unilocal deal from the Hot on Unilocal party back in the fall I was anxious to get in and see how SPS measures up.
The deal I purchased was the $ 40 for $ 80 highlights and I set up an aptmt with Devin. Getting to the salon was convenient as you can park on any zone streets before 6PM or just get off the Diversey stop. I thought the salon was clean & nicely decorated and the staff greeted me as soon as I walked in. I really liked Devin’s overall personality and how honest she was about pricing. I explained to Devin how my blonde ambition is burning a hole in my wallet. She asked if I ever considered doing a base bump with highlights. Since I usually only do a «half head of highlights» this was a nice way to make my natural color & highlights blend together. She also explained that instead of coming in for a monthly highlight you could do this base bump in between getting highlights. It was nice to have someone who was honest and explained pricing from the beginning.
After getting my color done I had her just do a normal trim and then just a blow out. The total cost with my coupon was $ 100, so was the deal really worth it? Eh, yes and no. I was hoping to pay a little less but I was very satisfied with the color & cut.

I visited this salon since i had a coupon for partial highlights for only $ 43. I am not attached to any salon in the city but i have to keep my hair from looking like i just stepped out of a trailer park so i gave this place a try.
It was fabulous!!! I figured since i was a coupon holder and not paying full price or a regular customer they would just foil me up and get me out of there asap. Instead, i was barely asked to sit and wait before my coat was hung up for me and i was in a chair with a stylist behind me. She went into detail about my hair (i.e. «cool blonde») and gave me tips on how to preserve its color and strength. She also went out of her way to mix up two colors for a more natural look ($ 20 extra on my part, but also more work for her; she could have taken one look at the coupon and moved on since i’m already a natural blonde).
After all the highlighting was done and the foils taken out, i got to sit back and relax and enjoy the best part of getting your hair done: the shampoo and rinse!!! This salon, i swear, instructs everyone to take head massaging classes! It was sooo wonderful, and i have had my hair done at a lot of places, but this salon seems to go above and beyond.
Steven Papageorge salon is definitely worth a visit! Their prices are reasonable even if there is no special going on, and the amount of time and energy they put into each customer whether a new face or not puts them on a level above the rest! I gave it only 4 stars because it is still a little out of my budget, but then again i am still a student so pretty much the only thing in my budget is cereal and books.
Before i left i set up my next appointment since my first visit had left me feeling so fabulous! i am now a bright blonde once again and very happy about it.
PS tips are receivable in cash only so make sure you stock up before sitting down!

Went here a few months ago with a groupon and had a color and cut with Sonia. This groupon was nice in that I could split the certificate into 2 separate visits, so I will actually be returning there in the next few days.
It was very convenient to get to, right off the brown line. My wait time was about 15 minutes when I arrived so not too bad. Sonia was very personable and offered what I thought were honest opinions and advice about my hair. She was great and took extra time with my hair, I did not feel rushed or hurried at all. Looking froward to my next visit.

Brunettes, listen up!
Yesterday I had partial foil highlights and a cut from Sonya. Both were spectacular. I am not a regular Unilocaler but I thought this deserved it! My hair is very dark brown and I wanted some highlights for a change without looked ‘stripe-​y’. She did a great job, applied a toner to cool off the brassiness and it resulted in amazing, subtle color.

I’ve visited the Lakeview salon twice and it is wonderful. With some moderately priced salons, you end up feeling a little ripped off when you leave, because the atmosphere and service doesn’t live up to what you’d expect for the price. Here however you get all the perks of a high-​class salon with none of the prices. I paid under $ 80 for an eyebrow wax and a cut & blow dry.
Jaime is awesome — she recommends products but doesn’t push you to buy anything. My hair can be a bit tricky but she knew just what to do with it and I was very happy with the results. She was also great at maintaining my brows and had me look in the mirror to make sure I was satisfied with the shape.

Meg… you’re amazing, I cannot say enough! I love my hair. Although I was going to go with the typical allover color and trim that I usually get, Meg recommended Balayage and I stepped out of the salon with some cool, hand-​painted caramel highlights.

I had a really great experience at Papageorge yesterday. I had my hair highlighted, low lighted and base color bumped by Meg. I also had a haircut by Ziggy. The salon atmosphere is laid back and casual.
Meg was super friendly and spent time asking what I woud like. My hair is dark, but I like to be blonde, and a lot of people cannot get my hair right and make it look bronze and not blonde. The color came out perfect and super natural. I was on a schedule and Meg made sure that she worked quickly without sacrificing quality. Will definitely see her again for highlights.
Ziggy did my haircut and he did a really great job as well! He even offered to show me how to style my hair to make sure that I can recreate the look. He’s definitely a character, but you can tell he’s a real pro with hair. I’ll be going back to him for a cut in the future. All in all, my haircut and highlights, lowlights and base bump came to $ 195. Not cheap, but comparable. I had a Groupon, so it was a great deal. I’ll go back and pay full price in the future though.

Love this place! I met one of the stylists, Ziggy, at the American Beauty Show in Chicago, where he first cut my hair. I was so happy to hear he worked in Chicago and have been going to him ever since. He really knows how to cut a fabulous style that’s easy to do even when you get home! I LOVE my hair and get compliments all the time! I also had a few of my girlfriends go to him, all with the same result.
All the people that work here are so sweet and really make you feel comfortable. It’s just a wonderful place!

I have to say that I did really enjoy my haircut here. I brought in pictures of my hair, after being done by my «home stylist» back in Michigan, and the stylist here did a very laudable job of matching my favorite haircut. It wasn’t spot-​on, but it was glamorous and stylish which is what matters.
The stylist also waxed my eyebrows, which was lovely since they are one of few places I’ve found that use hard wax, not just the paper strips that you rip off. Those strips irritate my skin to no end! My stylist did a decent job at the brows — I’ve had better at places where the waxers are *only* waxers and don’t do hair/​color/​everything else too, but my brows needed it and the price was right.
The reason I knocked a star off? After I got my brows done, I started putting some concealer on my face, which I know is bad for my irritated skin, but I was embarrassed by the red blotchiness from the wax. As I put it on, I told my stylist «I know this is bad for me, but I just have to do it anyway» and she said «Oh I totally understand. You don’t want to go outside looking like an Indian. You know, all red.»

I have never in my *life* heard someone make a racist «red Indian» comment, except in old movies and things. I was completely shocked, and frankly pretty offended. She just said it so casually, so unapologetically! I know that her comment was not the salon’s fault, and I don’t feel that they should be punished for one stylist’s words, but I personally have decided not to return. Come on, stylists should be more professional than that.
