Trisha Star is an award winning stylist with 16yrs experience in the world of special event styling, hair, makeup + fashion. She is extremely passionate about her work + loves to do modern fun cuts that are easy to wear. A born educator, Trisha has a effortless knack for sharing all her beauty expertise with clients + peers. She is a KEVIN. MURPHY Gold Key Educator + considers herself a life long student to her craft.

Over the past decade she has held the position as Creative Director for top production companies across the country, continuing to work backstage at red carpet events heading up teams of 50 some plus models. Trisha feels that her work in the field allows her to stay connected to current trends + new techniques in which she enjoys bringing back to the salon.

Trisha is a creative soul that finds beauty in everything + everyone. It has been a long time dream of hers to open a salon that provides cruelty free + vegan friendly products with a focus on natural ingredients.

I’ve seen Starship Salon at almost every #VeganVortex and kept meaning to stop in. I finally made an appointment with Jill after seeing some of the killer bobs she’d cut on the salon’s Instagram account. Jill is a hair wizard (or warrior, as her business card reads) and this salon is a gem. It’s 100% cruelty-​free and you can opt to only have 100% vegan products used on your locks. They serve Dark Matter coffee and offer vegan snacks on holidays — I just went in on Halloween and was treated to vegan chocolates. It’s a tad out of the way for me, but worth the trip because everyone is so nice and my hair always looks amazing. Their online booking system is a godsend for busy people, too.

So many times over 20 years I requested ash blonde for my highlights and no hairdresser could get it. Until I met Jill. Not only she knows what she is doing also she is cool. She is up to date with fashion.
Have you tried to show a picture of a model/​celebrity to your hairdresser to get the style without them make you feel weird about the comparison?
I was going to show her a picture of me, but my last picture that showed in my phone was of a model. I wasn’t going to show her that. But she saw it, got her iPad and search for images of that model. HOW COOL IS THAT?
As an animal activists this place rocks. They used only cruelty free products.

This place is adorable! All the staff are super friendly and totally unpretentious.
Laura has done my hair color three times now, and I’m really happy with her work. She does a great job of clearly explaining what’s going on and getting feedback from you throughout the process. I had damaged my hair pretty badly trying to bleach it myself, but Laura helped me bring it back to life. It looks and feels about a million times better.

This was my first time going to get my hair cut in years and I was so excited to be coming here. With great reviews who wouldn’t be? Me hair is fairly curly and I came in with the knowledge that the wonderful Jill will work with my curls. I came in and was very much welcomed and offer drinks. Oh and the smell when you walk in it absolutely magnificent. The massage with my hair wash was on point and very refreshing with a nice touch of lavender. And thoughout my whole haircut I had very nice conversation and tips on my hair and about the products. Love the experience, the smells, everything. Love it all. Definitely would recommend.

My hair was extremely parched and fried as a result of multiple bleaching sessions at a different salon. I came in to Starship looking for a trim to help my hair get back to a healthy state, but I left with so much more! Jill took the time to answer all of my questions regarding vegan products and recommendations for my hair. Before cutting it, she applied a deep conditioning treatment that gave my hair the hydration it was in desperate need of, and by the end of my visit, I was left completely blown away by the difference. When I left, my hair looked and felt so healthy, silky, and soft. Aside from my haircut, I really loved the atmosphere of the salon, their mission, and the overall attitude of the staff. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. One of the things I loved most was that – during my visit – one of the stylists came across a June bug while sweeping, and she kindly picked up the little guy and helped him get back outside. I don’t think this would have been the case at another salon. I see myself coming to Starship for a very long time!

I was referred to the salon and Jill by a friend. Jill listened to me and then provided me with options I had never considered. For 10 years I’ve been getting the same cut, and it never looks good in the summer. Jill encouraged me to consider a summer cut that would be different from my winter cut. It’s a big departure for me — and I love it. She did a fantastic job and walked me through how to get the look I want at home. And it’s so nice to have a cut for the summer that I don’t have to blow dry — it’s too hot already! The salon is small, clean and so nice. I was offered a beverage (I chose lemon water) and it was served in an actual glass — no plastic! Great experience all around. I also made my next appointment for 3 months from now — which I have never, ever done before. I usually let 3 months go by, and then hate my hair until I finally break down and try to get an appointment right away — which never works. Their online appointment system works well, and you can get a text and email reminder. Thumbs up all around. Thanks, Jill!

Started going to Starship after my old salon shut down. Not only is Starship SUPER close to my house, Mark gives a KILLER haircut. He really spends the time making sure it’s perfect and I always leave feeling fabulous. I love that they are vegan-​friendly and use Kevin Murphy products. Kevin Murphy is my favorite line. I’m going back in a few weeks to get dolled up before returning to work after surgery and I know that I’ll look like a million bucks when I leave. Love you all!
PS-​my hubby goes to Mark, too, and always comes home looking like a totally hottie.

**BEST SALON IN CHICAGO!**
Let me list the reasons why:
— Super easy booking online. I booked for the next day and could probably even have booked for the same day since this place is not yet discovered.
— Complimentary Dark Matter coffee (the best coffee roaster in Chicago IMO), a selection of teas, or water as you wait.
— Jill, my stylist, was very easy to talk to and the sweetest hair stylist I’ve ever worked with.
— All the products are vegan! How did I not realize vegan salons existed before?! I discovered them at a Vegan Vortex event, and I’ve been trying to veganize my beauty routine (NOT easy), but Starship Salon does all the work for you by carrying high quality hair care products and makeup in store and all vegan. Yay!
— Gorgeous, sun-​soaked space, like straight out of a magazine
— No pretension whatsoever. The space and the staff are low-​key and genuine. Everyone seems happy to be there.
— Great location for biking or parking (free parking in the surrounding neighborhood). Right next to Star Lounge Coffee and just down the street from Squasht (a super cute shop).
— Haircuts start at $ 55-​$ 75 depending on your stylist. It’s a little more than I’m used to spending, but it’s such a treat to yourself, great quality work, and a great experience. And on top of all that, all the products are vegan. Well worth the visit!

I received a partial highlight and cut by Constance at Starship Salon a few weeks ago. She did an excellent job listening to what I wanted before the hair work began. She even got out her iPad to look at colors and styles with me to make sure she did exactly what I was wanting. I’m so indecisive and I really appreciated her patience as I was trying to figure out how I wanted my hair. The final color was perfect and the cut was done in a way to bring out my facial features.
Starship uses Kevin Murphy products — which are incredible and smell so good. The décor was simple, but chic and everyone was very welcoming. I look forward to returning to Starship for my next color and cut!

I actually prefer all my hair products to be conflict-​filled and controversial. That’s the only downside to Starship, since they offer cruelty-​free products. I’m also a lover of blood diamonds.
Starship has a really chic space, whatever that means. If you go, make sure you look up and appreciate the cool ceiling. I went to be Constance’s hair model (she’s a newer stylist there). She did an amazing job, and I look even better than I did when I arrived. I didn’t know that was possible. I’m also very humble.
I’m Asian, and so there’s this consensus that you must go to an Asian place to get your hair did right. Well, a few months ago I went to a non-​Asian barbershop in Chicago and, compared to this haircut, it was pretty bad. Thus, I was quite wary coming into Starship. But WOW Constance did a great job. The owner was very nice and accommodating as well and has 10+ years under her belt/​scissors. Starship knows what they’re doing.

I made my first appointment at Starship this weekend — trying to find a nearby salon I love has been difficult for me. The hunt is over! I couldn’t recommend this tiny gem more! Affordable cuts, welcoming atmosphere, cruelty-​free products that work and extremely kind staff. My hair is difficult and quirky — and Laura seemed to make every snip with thoughtfulness and care. While I was there, a woman walked in with her 1-​year old son without an appointment. The owner of the salon quickly had mom and son in his chair — snipping away! Inviting, cheerful and professional, I recommend this place in a heartbeat.

My husband and I love Starship. We have tried several other salons and this is the only one where we are both consistently happy with the results. And I love that they only use cruelty-​free products like we do at home. The only downside is that word seems to be spreading… it’s not easy to get an appointment!

I tried this salon for the first time because I heard you could get an all vegan hair service. I was given an appointment with Laura Ann Evelyn and she was so friendly and knew all about their vegan hair products. I needed my roots done and she matched my color and covered all my grays beautifully! Also my blow out was full of body and smooth she really did a great job! Everyone in the salon was very nice and helpful. I will definitely be coming back for my touch ups and will get my next cut here!

This place is wonderful. I just went to Starship for the first time and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I have had the same hairstylist for years but since getting a job in the city haven’t made it out to the burbs. It has been a long time since my last hair cut and let’s just say it was time to cheat! I am glad that I did. Plus, I know all of these reviews are about Trisha, who I am sure is fabulous but their new stylist Lorelei did my cut. She was everything you would want in a stylist, adorable, talkative, fun, and great at hair! She made me feel great with the cut and how she tended to me when she was done. and don’t get me started on the scalp massage. plus the place is gorgeous, the products are great good for the planet and smell wonderful, and the receptionist was so adorable and nice. I can’t wait to go back!

I hate getting my hair cut. After many terrible experiences, including (but not limited to) multiple mushroom cuts, Disney teenybopper layers, and a haircut that got laughed at by my family as soon as I walked in the door, I have avoided haircuts if all possible.
Thankfully, I found Trisha (through my cousin’s recommendation). She makes my hair look great. I’m not great at expressing what I want done but she takes my several pinterest pics and does magic. I’ve loved every haircut and every color service.
Her beautiful salon and her cruelty free products/​services are also a huge plus.

Trisha is a great stylist and I’m so impressed with her new salon. She is professional, technical and intuitive. You can tell that she also teaches other stylists because she is able to use the industry terms to achieve the look you’re after – and then break it down to make it understandable. She always helps translate what I’m looking for into a look that is fresh and modern. The fact that her products are environmentally friendly and cruelty– free is just the icing on the cake.
Oh– also I love the online booking. Makes it very easy to get an appointment and will send text reminders, too.

Trisha is the best of the best. She takes the time to really understand what type of hair style you want and what fits best with your lifestyle. She is also a great teacher. I really like that she shows you different ways to style your hair. I don’t feel that many stylists take the time to consider that aspect like she does.
The salon is beautiful and quaint. The place holds a lot of positive energy and is a great addition to the neighborhood. They use Kevin Murphy products and I really like his products and ethics.
