Because the entire Starfruit galaxy of lowfat smoothies, frozen treats and yummy parfaits are made with Lifeway Kefir, which packs up to four times the health-​boosting probiotics of yogurt. The secret to Starfruit’s health-​boosting power is the 10 live «probiotic» cultures found in Lifeway Kefir (yogurt typically contains just two or three). Starfruit is made with Lifeway Kefir. But what’s Kefir?

Well, Kefir (pronounced «kee-​fur») is a bubbly drink that was discovered by accident when ancient shepherds realized fresh milk carried in leather pouches occasionally fermented into a deliciously effervescent beverage. Named for the Turkish word for «good feeling,» Kefir really does feel good — especially when eaten as a delicious frozen treat!

Kefir is known to naturopathic doctors as a natural cure for digestive troubles because the probiotics it contains encourage the growth of good bacteria in your digestive system. Because it is such an easily digested food, Kefir is ideal for infants, pregnant women, nursing mothers, the elderly, people who suffer from constipation and those who are lactose-​intolerant.

Our first location is on 1745 W. Division in Wicker Park, followed by 2142 N. Halsted in Lincoln Park, 108 N. State Block 37, Pedway Level, and 222 Merchandise Mart.

At Starfruit we’re a company of real people who care deeply about our community and the environment. To take care of Mother Earth, we purchase renewable wind energy credits to offset 100% of the energy used to produce our products. Plus, almost all of the serveware used in our stores is biodegradable. Hey, even our office furniture is recyclable!

Starfruit serves Lifeway Kefir, which is made with only antibiotic– and hormone-​free milk from dairy cows right here in the Midwest. Our fruit toppings are always fresh, in season, and purchased from local farms, too. These efforts not only support our local farmers and reduce the amount of energy spent on fuel and packaging, they also ensure a natural, healthy product for you and your family.
