Solin Systems specializes in home and business audio, visual, automation and networking solutions, as well as various aspects of technology support and integration. We work on everything from designing complete wiring and system plans for new /​rehab projects to retrofitting homes with wired and wireless solutions. We pride ourselves on providing creative and appropriate solutions for each client while paying close attention to, and being cautious of overselling which is common in this industry. Our quotes are easy to understand and transparent with no nickel-​and-​diming.

We have been in business for 14 years functioning solely on word-​of-​mouth referrals with most clients becoming repeat clients.

Solin Systems is an authorized dealer /​installer for many brands including SONOS, Denon, Onkyo, Definitive Technology, Lutron, and more.

History

Established in 2000.

The owner of Solin Systems is Jeff Solin, a computer scientist and computer science educator in Chicago. He started Solin Systems out of his passion for all things technology oriented. He is active in both the education and maker communities in Chicago.

Let me start by saying that Solin didn’t solicit this review. That’s worth mentioning because most vendors with only 5 star reviews manage the process. They solicit reviews from happy customers, and give away the store to mollify jerks.
Solin is a high school computer science teacher who does AV work in his spare time. Sometimes he’s busy during normal business hours, but is responsible about finding a way to get back to customers. Either from basic integrity, or due to the fact that he has a day job, Solin doesn’t push Crestron, Control4 or other AV integration systems, which are very costly, glitchy, and monopolistically priced. Solin proved that, if you think things through, you can get pretty far with equipment provided by companies like Comcast, Samsung, and Sonos. Samsung and Comcast have research budgets larger than Crestron’s net worth, and Sonos makes one suite of products rather than trying to be all things to all people.
I felt that, with Solin, I got an AV system that suited by needs. It also works without a lot of freezing, rebooting, and reprogramming. That contrasts markedly with my previous system.

Solin Systems installed Sonos throughout our house in a matter of hours. He was efficient, friendly, and offered tons of great advice on how to get the most out of the household audiovisual setup. Also incredible and easy to access «service after the sale» for all of my many non-​tech savvy questions. I will not fuss with wires, being put on hold by other utility companies or 1 – 800 help lines any longer now that I have discovered and used Solin Systems. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Jeff had a blank slate and helped us create home entertainment areas and music zones throughout our newly renovated home. After asking us many questions about what we really wanted, he created a plan that took into account our objectives and our budget. Jeff worked with our contractor to map out wiring and wifi zones before the drywall went up, flush mount speakers and flexible set ups to maximize our dollars. Jeff’s expertise was used not only inside the home, but on two outside entertainment areas with an external tv and outside zoned music areas. Jeff delivered a beautiful all around experience from start to finish. On time and on budget. Not only did he create the entire system, he installed it and his service and follow up is tremendous. Whenever we have had an issue, Jeff has gone above and beyond to check remotes, run diagnostic check ups remotely and got us back to 100% in very short order. He’s a pleasure to work with. I’d highly recommend him for any project, large or small.

Jeff has helped with several technical projects with my company and has done an outstanding job. Just recently, he helped migrate our email servers and everything went very smoothly. As many of the other reviews have mentioned, Jeff is an honest IT professional that can explain things in as much or as little detail as you would like. I’d recommend him if you need help with any technical projects that you need done quickly and done right.

Jeff really knows his stuff when it comes to making music sound amazing! He was able to work with our existing wiring/​speakers while supplementing with some Sonos components to give us «whole house surround.» We could not be happier with our system! After the installation, Jeff gave us a great tutorial on how everything works and he’s always more than happy to answer any questions that might arise. He’s the only person we’d recommend (and we have a bunch!) for a killer Sonos System. An added bonus — he’s just a really super guy!
