Soho House

I went to Soho House for the first time last evening for drinks after dinner. The place was very busy but we got a table right away for 5 people because others were just leaving. The wait staff was very professional and offered great advice for what to order off of their cocktail menu. I ordered a Soho Mule, which was $ 13. It was one of the best cocktails I have ever had. My husband had two whiskey sours made with top shelf bourbon and said they were the best he’s ever had. His drinks were not cheap — $ 18 each. We felt that part of the cost was paying for the atmosphere. Definitely a cool place to hang out!

Perfect cocktail bar for sipping and talking with a group. I am a whiskey sour guy and order one every time I go out. I was pleased to see a variety of options for bourbon, and it was the best whiskey sour I have ever had. Be prepared to pay top dollar for drinks.

The outside eating restaurant here is very good
The pizza parlor under same roof is some of the best pizza in Chicago. They use brick ovens
Also, find a friend that belongs to soho or think about joining. There is a lot of secret perks bout membership here that you have to learn about

I’ve been here with my friend who is a member a few times and it is an awesome time. Whether its drinks after work or you’re lucky enough to get a big reservation for dinner everything is enjoyable. The ambiance is really hispter/​trendy and the workout room is one of the coolest in Chicago. I’ve heard they get a good amount of celebrities that come so they are very strict on cellphone/​camera use (so celebrities feel comfortable and don’t get harassed) and will kick you out if you take a picture of someone.
I haven’t see the hotel aspect of it but everything is sweet. I only ate here once as well and even though you have to pay the price for where you are the food is great. Supposedly the burger is the way to go but I enjoyed the chicken club. I’ll be back for sure (if I’m invited)

The flat iron chicken, and the roasted cauliflower (but in the upstairs restaurant) are personal favorites. Old fashioned’s at the bar are also up to par. Very much a scene, however, which makes it not feel very Chicago. Will return.

Great place to meet a friend or two for a drink or two. Especially if you’re going to dinner in the area. The service is sometimes hit or miss, but the drinks are delicious, though expensive. A great place to take a date to chat and mix in the scene.

This High Tea is a High Crime against palate and wallet. I’m a lifelong Chicagoan familiar with the quality and offerings of our city’s tea scene. I resent having to take my time to write this; I resent this experience even more.
The venue for High Tea at the SoHo House is at first glance very sexy, inviting.
There it stops.
Four well heeled gals enter the crime scene via a 4:45 reservation yesterday, Saturday, December 12 made weeks ago. We were on time and seated to the right of the entrance in the window. Heavy sigh. Our hostess (hopefully my future inlaw hosting her daughter, my daughter and me) called ahead to make sure the chef could accommodate a vegan/​no soy bday worthy «tower» for my daughter. They assured her they could. Our waitress consulted with the kitchen and regretted they could not. We were there already. We had waited patiently to be greeted. (The table next to us had waited so long they left). Had this not been a special occasion, the tea leaves all said abort but that’s not what gracious folks do so we stayed,
My daughter was given a bowl of strawberries and blueberries and a bowl
of marcona almonds and olives that could appetize 10. To say it was a sad, uninspired, unapologetic and expensive couldn’t even begin to give you an idea of the strange offering and befuddling waitress vibe.
We other three did the 32 $ tower with champagne… they apologized that they were out if their regular rose brut and we instead suffered through flat, warm, swill that I had to fake restroom trip to politely remind the waitress had been sitting on the bar forgotten. The sandwiches were dull, stale, uninspired. The sweets were seriously, maybe Dominick’s bakery quality, maybe. Tea never really hot, never replenished, served to the wrong people. We had such a small table we used two add hoc purse pedestals to make any room or sense of the experience.
The SoHo house tea is the absolute worst of the Chicago tourist trap trade. I think this deserves a comped do over. We’ll see. Please note that I’m not a troll and have written only a hand few of reviews in my 30+ years enjoying other fabulous establishments with real chefs and real staffs… anyone behind this curtain that cares?!

Wine, Red or White? House, Ok, or Good? yeah, that’s how drinks’ the menu looks like here. The staff is friendly, the drinks are great (go for the Moscow Mule!), and their brownie is surprisingly awesome.

Cool membership experience. Gourmet flavors to go with the old boys club feel. Not much value for the dollar. Service a lil careless and sloppy. Lofty ambitions of being more than they currently are delivering. Enjoyed time with friends but not running back for another visit

Great location! Very well decorated and nice atmosphere for a date. We ordered small plates and drinks. Cocktails were good! I ordered single malt for which they have a limited selection. Good service and pleasant experience overall.

Honestly, too pretentious to be good. Everyone sort of treats you like you’re not attractive enough for them. Don’t get me wrong it’s beautiful inside but not the kind of place that makes you feel welcome.

Came here with a group of friends while visiting from San Francisco. We sat downstairs and ordered some lunch and sharing sides. It took us a while to get our order in, but we weren’t in a rush so that was okay. Bread to share came out first, and it was fantastic. Was fresh, had different varieties, there was some salted butter and olive oil… A perfect bread plate. Think I ate four pieces.
Then my half order of burrata and tomato salad came, and it was a good sized portion! Big chunk of nice creamy burrata over some fresh heirloom tomatoes with crunchy pine nuts and I think some olive oil. This combined with the bread made for an excellent lunch, and the funky atmosphere of this place made it a great experience.
One of our friends ordered two items, and they forgot one of the items and it took a while to figure it out. But then a blonde woman with a cool accent told us that our food was on the house because of the delay. That was awesome! It showed how seriously they take their service, and it really made our collective day to have a fancy, free brunch. I’ll remember this place because of that combined with the yummy food.
Also, noticed that all of the patrons here were hip, attractive and cool. If that kind of thing matters to you.

We stayed in a room for the weekend! Excellent rooms. Excellent hotel amenities. The pool on the roof is fun, although busy.
All of the restaurants and food spots in the hotel are thoughtful and make great dishes!

While I wish I could write a good review — I unfortunately cannot. My best friend made a reservation at the hotel and was called the day of where they said they overbooked and she would be unable to stay there.
Even after explaining that it was her birthday and she was leaving the country in a few days and suggesting we at least be allowed access we were told no.
I cannot fathom how a place that is supposed to be one of the best in Chicago cannot figure out how to make hotel reservations without overbooking.
Especially when making the reservation in the first place is no easy process. Rather than booking online you have to provide your email and then they «contact you» regarding room availability. I would think after that lengthy process they would know what rooms they have available — but I guess not.
Totally unacceptable service!

This place is a joke and rude to their neighbors
By far the worst of the SoHo Houses…
I was standing for ten minutes while some host was standing on her phone trying to figure out how the place works, you know the theme of things.
I was not allowed to check the place out to see if it suited my needs, sorry I guess I won’t walk a few doors down from my loft for that evening cocktail or a cup of coffee
So I didn’t even try anything and went down Randolph to a more worthy spot
Plus the vibe seemed a bit off
This place does not belong in the West Loop, it would probably be much more well received in Detroit or Indiana
NOTE: If you are a millennial, no matter your income bracket, they won’t even care of your needs or wants when joining. Let’s speak with our wallets

Soho is one of the coolest spots in the West Loop, if not the entire city. I came here with a member so I got the full experience, but lets just get into the highlights.
1) Best burger in the city hands down. They have 2 burgers, the dirty burger which has bone marrow in it and then the regular soho burger which has panchetta on it. Both are amazing but I prefer the soho burger.
2) Amazing cocktails. Probably the best moscow «soho» mule in the city, also am a big fan of the pineapple express.
3) Rooftop pool while eating a burger. Need I say more?
4) Club area on the 5^th floor has the same great cocktails and more
There’s a lot more hidden gems about this place, but to sum it up, if you like food, great atmosphere, good looking people, then make sure you hit up SOHO.

They now have bottomless cups of drip coffee from Blue Bottle for $ 3. Yup, that’s right. And they do an excellent job of brewing it too. It’s delicious. And you can buy loaves of their delicious bread to go for a very reasonable price, which I have done a few times now. These are some great little finds – some of the best crusty bread and coffee, practically hidden in plain sight!

I treated my mom to Soho’s afternoon tea service. very British. The ambiance and tea-​3 tier snack tower was perfect. Service was spotty and lack luster. We had reservations but the hostess did not acknowledge and attempted to seat us on a sofa. Waited 10 mins for check after requesting even though they were not very busy.
So the four stars are for food and ambiance only. I would go back for sure.

DW is lucky I’m dead inside and feel nothing from his almost constant stream of rude-​ass remarks and I’m lucky that Danny W sprung for a Soho House membership so I could use him to enjoy a delicious brunch to bring me back from hangover hell.
We basically camped out here for like 3.5 hours with breakfast (Two doses of truffle mushroom and fried egg on toast + french fry cup), Bloody Marys, a Rye cocktail, mango-​y iced tea, more water than exists in the ocean, and some pretty spectacular views… of really pretty young people and others who can afford the 2K-​3K a year membership (it’s cheaper if you’re youthful).
It was posh, but still comfortable and yes, they did let me in and just for the record I’d like to state that Danny looked about 30 times more hobo than I did. Still got in.
My favorite thing was probably the 5^th floor bathrooms that basically have mahogany toilet seats and Cowshed soap and lotion are pretty clutch when working through various hangover side effects. The only thing I’d suggest here is to pump some music into this piece because no one likes pooping in a silent shared bathroom space.
Our meals were pretty phenomenal (less the suuuper slow service, hence the 3-​hour stay) and for the 4 beverages, 2 breakfasts, and 1 side of perfect fries and aioli our totally per person split down the middle was $ 35+tip. Not too shabby at all.
If you’re a member of Soho House you get to enjoy a bevy of ridiculously rad things like their gym, rooftop pool and lounge, concerts with legit acts, wifi work spaces, pizza bar, posh spaces, pool tables, and more. You can even take a nap on their couches around the bar and it’s totally 100% A-​OK, in true hobo fashion.
There’s a strict no social media policy while in Soho House and I was told from an unreliable source (Danny W) that celebs sometimes stop by, so don’t be surprised if one day you find yourself on a treadmill next to Ben Affleck.
The dress down policy is mega cool for someone like me who absolutely loathes dressing up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hella trendy here and everyone is beautiful and still way more dressed up than I’ll ever be on a random Saturday late-​afternoon/​early evening, but I guess suit and tie attire is highly frowned upon… though there were def more than a few dapper gents and ladies who clearly live in the lap of luxury on our visit.
I don’t have a membership, but I’d totally mooch off Danny W’s membership and come back the next time I’m in town.
