I feel so lucky to have found this dentist office!
The first time I went to Smiles by Design was about a year ago for an emergency. I had recently moved to the city and didn’t have a dentist. They took me right away and fixed my cracked tooth that day! I was leaving the country for vacation the next day and they were able to fit me in. They made me feel so comfortable and explained everything they were doing. They also made sure to explain all charges to me in detail. They even broke it down by the initial cost, what the insurance will pay for, and finally what I actually will owe in the end. They made sure I was ok with the cost and didn’t do anything before they checked with me and made sure it was ok. They were amazing on such a stressful and painful day.
I went back today for a cleaning. Once again everyone I encountered in the office was so warm and caring. The dentist greeted me with a smile on her face, went over my x-​rays with me and explained everything she was seeing as she looked at it. All of the hygenists were extremely nice as well. You can tell that everyone in this office really enjoys what they do and the people they work with.
I usually dread going to the dentist but after these two amazing experiences I know what to expect from the team at Smiles by Design.

If you are someone who wants to have a happy and healthy smile, but have been too much of a coward to get in that dental chair, Smiles by Design is the place for you! I was a complete scaredy-​cat about dental work. Many dental offices advertise that they «cater to cowards,» but really don’t have a clue. The entire staff at Smiles by Design was committed to helping me through my fear, and gradually overcoming it completely. They will absolutely work with you in identifying your areas of apprehension, and using creative ways to get the job done. I am the poster girl for their creative dentistry! Please do not let your fear of dental work hinder your health and desire for a beautiful smile any longer. Take that first step and call Smiles by Design.

Unfortunately, the atmosphere is very unprofessional. The first time I walked into the office, the doctors and employees were having a team meeting in the open, behind the receptionist desk. They were being loud and laughing and watching an employee do pull-​ups on a pullup bar. No one greeted me, and I waited at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged while the whole team goofed around.
I got a routine cleaning and 3 cavities filled. They made me come in 3 separate times to get all the work done. Although the work I had done was adequate, I was charged more than what the dentist initially quoted me.
I have not been back. I get a call about twice a month from the office while I am at work from a number that I am unfamiliar with, and they NEVER leave a message. This is very irritating and unprofessional in my mind.

The worst dental experience I’ve had.
My dental hygiene has been consistently good through the years, with dentist visits consisting of only bi-​annual cleanings and regular x-​rays. I scheduled a normal cleaning and was placed with Dr. Jonynas. She looked at my gums and said that they were in bad condition and that I needed to schedule a deep cleaning. I found this to be odd since I take good care of my teeth. When I asked her to perform a normal cleaning she said that she wouldn’t do that since they could be sued for malpractice. Huh?
This raised a bunch of red flags so I promptly left. I later found out this «visit» was billed to insurance, and all she did was put on rubber gloves and told me that I needed a bunch of expensive, non-​insurance covered services. Hmm.
I decided to get two different second opinions, each filling the role of a 6-​month cleaning. Both dentists said my teeth looked fine and required nothing more than usual cleanings. As my mother once told me: «When some dentists go drilling, they aren’t drilling for cavities — they’re drilling for gold».

I went here to get a filling filled and they only replaced half my filling. I experienced terrible sensitivity to my tooth and after going back into the office twice to have them look at my tooth, they referred me to a specialist because sensitivity to hot and cold (and they told me I needed a root canal). Since I trusted Smiles by Design I made an appointment with the dr office that they referred me to. Before going to my appointment I called to verify that they accepted my insurance and they didn’t. I then called around and found a great dentist that accepts my insurance, went in and they said that I didn’t need a root canal and that the dentist should have replace the ENTIRE filling, not partially. Thank god I found this new dentist… it saved me the pain and money for a root canal!!!

I don’t remember how I found this place, but I’m sure glad that I did. Every single employee is friendly and welcoming, the office nice, great Loop location convenient if you work in the area, and the staff is fantastic. Almost makes you look forward to a cleaning… almost…

This is absolutely the friendliest and most professional dental office I have ever been to. I am a patient of Dr. Jonynas and Dr. Perlin and have had wonderful experience with both. Everyone there is so welcoming, and I am very satisfied with all of the services.

I have moved 14 times in the past decade between colleges, my hometown and now my career here in Chicago. This is my favorite dentist of all time and I have been going to Smiles by Design for 4 years now. HIGHLY recommended.

I go to Dr. J and she is the best dentist I’ve ever had (I’ve moved around a lot, so… I’ve had a lot of dentists).
She gives you a no-​nonsense evaluation of how well you take care of your teeth and lets you know what you can do to improve. They are super fast, always right on time or early (NO waiting EVER) and do great work.

My theory on home dentistry is to avoid at all costs, so I typically go to see Dr. Jonynas. No pain, no waiting… what else do you want from a dentist?
