History

Established in 1993.

Sine Qua Non was founded in 1993 by owner and life long Chicagoan, Laura Boton. Laura’s goal was to build a hair salon utopia fueled by warmth, style, innovation, and education. Laura has grown a salon series that provides authentic, artistic service in a warm and inspiring environment. With four successful Sine Qua Non locations, SQN has become the place to experience sublime and accessible on-trend hair and skin services, where the typical salon stereotypes are absent.

Sine Qua Non Salons have won multiple awards and have been featured as the «Best Salon in Chicago» by many major fashion magazines for hair cut, color, curly hair, and brow and skin care services.

Sine Qua Non as a brand has grown to be a strong force in the salon education industry. We are known for our Assistant Advanced Training Program for young stylists, as well as our SQN Academy, which provides expert education to stylists from outside salons.
