Sanchez Barber Shop

I am usually a picky person when it comes to getting haircuts (because of my weirdly shaped skull) so it was a little weird only telling him a couple things before he got started. Instantly gave me the perfect cut, like he read my mind.
The place is cozy and welcoming. Not to mention that he had on a great movie on his giant TV and told some seriously funny jokes. Haven’t been to too many barbershops in my life other than the big, commercial kind, so this was an absolute treat.

This is my first review ever on the Internet. I just had the worst hair cut/​shave in my life here… And I’ve had pretty bad hair cuts before. I’ve been growing my hair, and beard for 5 months trying to achieve a certain style, he’s been highly recommended, and his reviews and ratings here were amazing so I trusted him… I showed him a picture of what I wanted, and told him I don’t really want to cut anything as much as I want to trim the stray hairs, and fade my beard a bit. He butchered me. Cut everything super short, ruined my mustache, beard, hair… Even gave me a bald spot on the right side of my beard, and told me «it will get better in no time». I went home and shaved everything off clean. So utterly disappointed.

I lived a few blocks away from Sanchez Barber Shop when I was living up in Lakeview, so I went to him for a couple years. Mr. Sanchez is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, however, I’m evaluating on his skills as a barber. About ³⁄₅ times, he’d fade me up evenly, and the other 2/​5, it’d be very uneven. A few times, I mentioned that one side needed to be evened out, and he took his clippers and went up with a couple strokes, making that side even more uneven. So I chose not to open my mouth after that experience and let him do his thing. Since I fly every week for work, it was certainly more out of convenience that I’d go to see him on weekends, but now that I’m in River North, I’m pretty happy with the new venue that I’ve found. Hit or miss on his cuts, evaluate at your own risk.

I love Sanchez barbershop. it is such a gem of a place. I always get a nice fade and Mr. Sanchez is old school too! His shop has been opened since the 1980’s and still going strong.

A great haircut for the price, all while watching movies on a big screen.

Sanchez is a great guy and barber. Love his shop, it feels like you’re in his home. He’s super friendly, takes care to make sure you’re happy, and always has the latest movies «legally» for you to watch on his bigass TV. Oh and there’s a turtle and some fish.

A barbershop, that has been around a while. I came all the way from Edgewater to get a haircut at this place, and definitely will be back in the future. If your looking to get a fade, this barbershop is definitely one.

Mr. Sanchez made me feel like I’d been going there for years, nicest barber I’ve had to date. «Hello, my very best friend» On your first cut, he gives you a punch card and your 5^th cut is free. I will be going to Mr. Sanchez for all my cuts from now on.

One of best barber shop’s I’ve been to, the service is exceptional and Mr Sanchez always cuts my hair so nice! I definitely would recommend him to any of my friends and family members.

Mr. Sanchez is the man. I’ve had my hair cut at a lot of places in the city. I can easily say this place is my favorite. Why is it my favorite? It’s simple; Mr. Sanchez provides a premium service at a non-​premium price. This guy is precise. You’ll feel right at home when you’re sitting in the chair. This man is also a surgeon with the straight razor. No joke. Apart from that, he seems to be an all around great person. I would trust my life in this guys hands. I mean I guess I already do when he’s shaving the hair on the side of my neck with a razor.
In all seriousness, I highly recommend this place for a haircut. This guy’s a hardworking soul who deserves everything good that comes his way.

Mr. Sanchez gave me a perfect shape-​up and cut the sides the length that I wanted. He is older than old school. He uses a straight edge blade with old man’s shaving cream, that smells like coconuts, to line you up. He gives you a mirror to hold up the entire time so you can tell him if he needs to do this or that.
This gentleman’s gentleman shaped up this lady perfectly!!!
FYI: I was a walk-​in and only waited for about 10 minutes. He charges $ 15.

I peek into this place about 10 minutes before close, and Sanchez invites me in. Parks and Recreation is playing on his giant TV in front of an enormous couch; this is great start. My cut is plain, but good; he definitely loves the fade.
I like this place so much because of Sanchez; he talks to me like we’ve known each other for years. After some conversation, I figure out that this place is very much reflective of him; he’s sweating through his shirt, he adores the neighborhood, the shop closes at 7 but he’s cutting until 8. His own comfort spills into the shop.

I’ll give Sanchez a 3.5 on the basis that it would have been a 4.5 or 5 if he would have asked me more about how I wanted my haircut besides do you want a little hair on your sides or almost no hair on your sides.
Thank god I said a little hair cause otherwise I feel like I would be shaving my hair tonight. So outside of that, the man knows how to cut hair! Very professional, cheap, and I walked in and immediately sat down with no appointment.
Only takes cash and has some strange movie playing most of the time and the atmosphere is «unique» and I’m pretty sure the guy knows nothing but «come on in my best friend» in English, but all in all a very good haircut and a awesome experience.

First let me tell you that if you are not the person that gets fades, then this is not the place for you.
I read many reviews where I read that Mr. Sanchez would always give you a buzz cut even if you didn’t ask for it. Since I saw many other good reviews I decided to go and try out Mr. Sanchez.
My hair was about three inches long. I told Mr. Sanchez that I just wanted to clean it up so cut about half an inch. He grabbed his clippers even though I said I preferred scissors, and he went at it. I realized it was just too late when I saw how much hair fell on my lap. So I had no choice but to let him finish cutting it.
One thing I realized while I was waiting and getting my haircut is that all of Mr. Sanchez customers get a similar cut. Everybody that was there was getting that fade thing. So unless your hair looks like Lebron James’ hair I suggest you try another place. My hair is going to take at least a month to get where it used to be so I know I will be rocking a stupid haircut for that long.
I honestly don’t know why everybody gives it five stars, maybe because it’s cheap. I’d much rather pay three times more in order to get a good haircut.

Mr. Sanchez is an old-​school barber in the best possible way … incredibly precise and perfect haircuts every time, unfailingly happy and friendly, and a great value. And from a décor perspective, this is easily the most unusual barber shop I’ve ever seen — not to be missed!

Just moved to the area from LA and was looking for a great barber who can do a proper taper and line up. Boy was I in for a treat. Señor Sanchez resorts to the tried and true straight blade, not just on my neck, but all around — behind the ears, lined up all across the front and back around. Plus, with the shaving cream and moisturizer, he really knows how to make you feel fresh.
Great price, great convos, and something always entertaining playing on a giant tv in a room illuminated by a rainbow of incandescent light bulbs — aka great experience. I don’t review places often (second review ever) but this place deserves your business if your looking for a good, classy haircut and a time to tidy up or to just treat yourself to a good old fashioned barbershop cut; definitely above the rest.

This is a throwback type of barbershop, with an Ol Skool barber to match, very good haircut reasonable price, just what U need in your life.

I want to give it five stars because I love every aspect of this shop except one.
The hair cuts.
But I love everything else so much I don’t care. I always ask for just a little taken off and end up with a lot taken off. But I am so busy staring at the strange turtle or watching a fight on TV to care. He has never given me a bad cut, he just takes a little more off than I want. Bit it’s hair, it grows back and everytime it does, I’m right back in his chair again.
Tip the man. Just because he doesn’t charge much doesn’t mean you shouldn’t tip him. I usually hand him $ 30 and walk out. I’m not exactly sure how much the hair cuts cost. He seems happy and within a few days I’m happy.

I love this guy.
$ 20 gets you a great haircut and unique experience.
As long as I am living in Chicago, I will get my hair cut here.
