Lol, this place. They apparently serve everything from Indian food to gyros, wings and burgers. They have huge portions and are really good for one thing: being open when other places aren’t. The downsides: as a food service manager myself, some of their practices are… questionable. Like the fries that stored in an open container, unrefrigerated under one of their prep tables. I lovingly call that«the flavor bucket». Theoretically, the heat from the deep fryer will sanitize anything that lingers in the flavor bucket, but it will not clean the impression that made upon seeing it. But at the food is satisfying(for a certain set of circumstances).

Uhhhhh! Hello?! I work in the neighborhood, so I wanted to grab a quick bite. I walked by at 1115 yesterday, doors were closed, chairs on tables– clearly closed, they’re supposed to open at 11. Today I walked in, and saw no one– stood there for 10 min– wasting my lunch break mind you, and no one appeared to help me. I left, so I can’t comment on the food. But, if that’s how they run business… I can assume they won’t be around long.

I say this place was«meh?!» Came here by chance looking for a good charbroiled burger. Was heading to Patio Beef. Should have went with my instincts. If you’re going to charge an extra $ 1 for«meat» on nachos; don’t chop an old burger patty that sat on the grill. My fiancé ordered double cheeseburger and packaging was horridly packed. Why wrap a burger to then dump a few fries on top?! We was hoping to find a decent burger joint and was not impressed… Sorry next time I’ll stick with my first instinct…

There’s usually a restaurant trade-off in A-OK places: either it’s damn good, and small portions, or the flip. Sam’s is definitely the flip. Many of their dishes are HUGE, but just A-OK. It’s decent if you have some sort of inebriated toxin in your blood driving your hunger for this late night, never-sober, spot.

They goofed up my order, brought the wrong things… but the quality was good enough. It is not great, but not bad. I’m looking forward to trying some of their Indian food.

Oh Sam’s. You aren’t the restaurant we always want, but the one we deserve. You are THE drunk food stop off Granville. For a place specializing in fried foods and open till around 4 am, you do it right. I hope you are a part of the community for many many more years. The food? It’s just okay. It’s what you’d expect. The prices are cheap and though it may be slow, the staff is nice.

I will never eat at Sam’s again. Upon moving to Edgewater, I heard some pretty bad things about the place, but I wanted to check it out for myself. The first couple of times I went to Sam’s I ordered the cheesy beef which is pretty much like an Italian beef only it’s loaded with cheese. Anyway… So I ordered that and it came with fries and I mean how could you mess that up? The food was decent enough. Nothing to write home about, but it got me through. The last time I went to Sam’s I was feeling adventurous so I decided to order the 6pc chicken dinner which comes with fries and bread. First complaint: I didn’t get bread with my meal. Second complaint: those chicken wings smelled and tastes horrible!!! It smelled like it had been fried in week old grease! I have never smelled anything like that! I mean I’m not familiar with the rules in changing the grease food is fried in, but I am positive Sam’s does not change their grease often enough! Fried chicken, in my opinion usually smells delicious and mouthwatering… Sam’s fried chicken however smells like I lost a bad bet. Never again.

BBQ chicken is so tangy and good. I eat it so quickly that my mouth goes a little numb. The BBQ is so damn good that Sam’s should be a destination just for it. Regular American fair is OK. Get the BBQ. They also have yummy Somosas and Indian food. Overall, the BBQ is killer… destination BBQ joint, but they don’t advertise it enough. They should have a big sign: BBQSPECIALITYDINNER $ 6.99! I mostly see other patrons getting their other mediocre american food though, hence the average ratings I guess.

So greasy and pretty good! Very fast food and good for the price. I got a double cheeseburger and fries with a cup of cheese sauce and it was more than enough food for me. My boyfriend got the rib tips and wings and they were very good as well! For both of us it costed $ 23 which wasn’t too bad! And we are completely stuffed. I’d recommend a visit to Sam’s

Good food and good service, when you’re in the mood for something greasy. They are open late which is a plus, just don’t order delivery, you might get your food cold.

Great wings and fries. Large assortment and variety of food to choose from at fair prices. Just don’t get the jalapeño poppers — they look like they’re heated up from those frozen batches you can get at your local grocery store.

Food four stars, atmosphere two. I stopped in today for a gyros plate. They did the thing they said they wouldn’t do, they substituted and left the fries out. But they still included a large pita. The gyros portion was large and plentiful, the sauce good quality and adequate, the salad with onions and lettuce and tomato fresh. Happy camper here. No complaints, right? For take out this would have been perfect. Then the homeless guy came in. He was a very meek homeless guy. He asked a few of the people if they would help him out. I finally looked at him and offered him my untouched pita and some salad, as I was almost done. He didn’t want it. I asked him again, since he was asking people for food. He didn’t get it. The guys behind the counter didn’t do anything about this guy or ask him to head out or give him some left over food or anything. At one point they asked if he wanted to order and he said no. Who just lets a homeless guy come in and linger over the sitting paid customers for 10 – 15 minutes at a time. And still lets him linger after he’s been offered food by me and a few other patrons? I’m sorry but that’s just bad form. But I’ll be back for the carry out. Decent value. Indian food looked good too.

Drunk food open late(4am everyday) near where I live now… extremely dangerous for my health. If you’re coming off the Granville el stop at 3am and starving and too tired to find food, Sam’s is literally staring at you in the face waiting to rescue you… with fried chicken wings. The menu covers most late night greasy drunk food, and if the Loyola student clientele I’ve seen in here is any indication… it’s pretty reliable drunk food. Cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, tacos, indian food… If I go now, I opt for the 4 fried chicken wings, which are small whole wings that come with fries and bread and hot sauce. They have buffalo wings(which is what I thought these were) too these chicken wings are my go to order here now(but jeeze, the fact that I even repeatedly come here…) I’ve tried the Indian side of the menu as well, and I’ll say that its definitely a harder kind of late night food to do well. Dry reheated tandoori chicken is typical. This ain’t 24⁄7 ghareeb nawaz here. Staff is friendly too! Good stuff. 3.5

I ordered from this place last night and now that I’m awake and not feeling well. It was a very bad idea. I got rice, chicken Marsala and naan. The only good part was the naan. I woke up with stomach problems and now I’m laying in bed and I have to miss work. The rice was frozen and reheated and so was the chicken Marsala. I don’t think I’ll be going back to this place. The food was really greasy and the just not good.

Don’t get the polish. It sucks. It’s not Vienna beef polish. Too small to be similar to a maxwell street polish. Get the two hot dogs for same price. The polish is the size of a hot dog with same toppings. Everything else seems ok.

The only place open really late with so many choices. Nice guys, freezing cold soda, good greasy food, and 99¢ for a giant cheese cup to dip it all in! The Indian food is really good too of you don’t want the greasy goods. The pizza puff is the perfect midnight snack… Mmmmm

I had the lamb biryani for a late dinner, and it was quite the bountiful portion! The rice and lamb chunks were quite tender and delicious, and at a great price too. You can make this into two meals if you do not eat very much. Sam is located right by the Granville stop on the Red Line, if you sit in the right position you can watch the trains arriving and departing. They have a very large selection and a wide variety of dishes to try. No nonsense, Good guys, good food, good prices.

I look at the walls, lined with perhaps the most diverse menu to be found anywhere; chicken & ribs, Italian beef, cheesesteaks, Mexican, Indian, just LOL! It’s run by Indians, & they’re nice guys. The ambience is a bit rough, but it’s satisfied my need for late night grub. I’ve always gotten the lb. of ribtips. Served w/slice of white bread, proper Chicago style, & fries, which are actually quite decent, thicker w/skin. I’ve seen a colorful assortment of night people here, from groups of Loyola students to street people. I’ve got no complaints, it’s straight up Chi style late night!
