Description

History

Established in 1970.

Rush University Medical Center operates a comprehensive emergency department 24 hours a day for patients who require immediate medical attention. In addition to treating the full range of adult problems, special services are available for the evaluation and treatment of emergencies involving infants and children.

In 2012, Rush opened a new, 40,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art emergency center with 60 treatment rooms that can handle 72,000 patient visits per year. All rooms are individual and private, but in case of a local or national disaster, each room can accommodate two patients and the hospital lobby can be converted to handle mass casualties resulting from biological, chemical and other catastrophes.
