Ron Johnson’s Piano Tuning Service

I was able to get a piano as a gift from a new neighbor who had bought a foreclosed house across the street, and the former owners had abandoned the piano, among other things. It clearly hadn’t been tuned or taken care of for several years, and I wasn’t sure how it would sound when it was tuned.
I found Ron Johnson on Unilocal after having called other piano tuning service companies and not having heard back from them for several days. Ron was the only one who answered the phone, and was courteous, kind, and flexible with his willingness in traveling to our place in the west suburbs.
Ron was a gentleman, and was a pleasure to have here working on the piano with precision and an ear with 30 years of experience. It was fun, being a musician, and hearing how over the two hours he worked to raise the pitch and get everything tuned, how this beat up old piano I never thought would sound better than a 1920s speakeasy upright piano, ended up having a very crisp, light, and pleasant tone.
Ron did a wonderful job, played a little blues-​ey song afterwards, adjusted a couple of hammers that were sticking, and was on his way. I spent the next hour playing and enjoying my good-​as-​new piano.
I highly recommend Ron to everyone. He was a pleasure to have at our house, and when we move back to the northwest suburbs in the several months, I will be calling him up again for a tuning/​pitch raise. Thanks again Ron!

He is an excellent piano tuner. He had given me the pricing with all of the extra services in great detail. He also had redone my washburne piano keys which had sounded flat and dim in the past. His pricing is competitive and not expensive as other piano tuners. I recommend him to tune your piano and you will be satisfied with his work. And he will play a song to see how it will sound. Great Musician.

I agree with Clarence. He did great work, but over the phone he said it was $ 60/​hour to which I agreed. He didn’t tell me that there was a $ 50 fee for him just to come over. So, it was $ 110 overall which was fine, but I didn’t appreciate the hidden cost.

Ron was great. Our friends left us an old piano, but they left it to us after years of sitting. They referred us to Ron when they gifted us the piano because he had been the one originally able to get it in working order when their other piano tuner had failed. After procrastinating for far too long, we called Ron and he once again brought new life to our troubled instrument. I agree with the other reviews I read that said he is fair, efficient, and personable. Highly recommended.

Ron Johnson is an artist and a true professional. He has maintained my 1956 McPhail baby grand for years. He is prompt, tidy and a joy to have in my home. After tuning, Mr. Johnson will play a song or two on the piano to make certain that all is as it should be — a real treat for those who have never heard their own pianos played by someone else.
