This place is just great. I had the tuna tataki, the Mafia roll, the Black Monster, the miso soup, the edamame, and their mochi for dessert. The Black Monster and Mafia rolls were quite spicy, and so perfectly crafted. The staff are very polite and the service is timely without too much wait. The bathroom is clean, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is both cozy and hip/​modern. I’ve been twice and I can’t wait to go again!

Tuna nigiri average — that light pink dried out appearing tuna not the really fresh darker pink fresh tuna that I have had at most other sushi places. Rolls were covered in sauce/​mayo — could barely taste the rolls. Salmon/​Tuna appetizer on crispy base covered in sauce. I was disgusted by the amount of sauce that was covering everything — I could not eat it. Lots of other good sushi places around me, will not be ordering from here again. Can’t speak for restaurant itself, as this was a take out order.

Byob restaurant. Went as a group of 4, we tried 6 different sushis and 1 of every flavor of mochi for dessert and we only spent $ 30 a person including tip! Everything was fresh and delicious and very pretty to look at. Would definitely go back and take guests there in the future.

Amazing sushi… every time I introduce a friend to rollapalooza, they agree it is some of the best sushi they’ve had. The servers are always really nice. The space is a bit small, but cozy. If you order take out, the food is quickly ready for pickup. Recommendations: the rollapalooza and the spicy tataki! All of the desserts, if you have room, are yummy, too!

Ah Rollapalooza… a great BYOB staple in the Boystown area. I’ve always enjoyed my experiences at Rolla and I know it’ll never fail me.
I’m a huge fan of the Acapulco Roll, the nigiri (all of it), the yellowtail avocado roll, and the gyoza appetizer. You’ll find that despite the affordable prices, Rolla uses very fresh ingredients and never skimps on anything. The service at Rolla is on point, very attentive without being overbearing. Major bonus – no corkage fee! I’ve dined in with small and large groups and each and every time the service and food has been great, as expected.
All of that being said, there are better sushi spots scattered throughout the city, but Rollapalooza definitely gets the gold star for a great, basic, sushi experience!

I went with my mom and it was awesome. Then I ordered at least one of the same ones tonight and it was not so good. The dynamite roll tasted fishy like it wasn’t fresh, the Meguan roll chili sauce tasted like ketchup, the smoky roll tasted artificial. Nothing tasted fresh. The flavors were just not well developed. I really had thought I found the motherland of sushi. I don’t think I will go back. I will return to my old favorite sushi place. So much for trying new things.

I’ve eaten at Rollapalooza a few times and enjoyed it each time. First of all, BYOB is the best. It was easy to get a table and the prices were good. I had the shumai ($ 4) and the Maki Combo (3 Maki rolls for $ 15– great price).
I’m not the type of person who craves sushi so I’m by no means an expert on it, but it’s good for the price and the atmosphere works well for different types of groups.

Best Sushi I tried in Chicago, since my favourite sushi place closed near de 6 corners a few years back. This restaurant is very warm, good service and the sushi taste and presentation is out of this world.
I recommend it for all Chicago people. The Chefs are awesome and always receive us with a smile.

UPDATE! It pains me much to say this, but we recently stopped going here and ordering. Why? Their failed 2015 health inspection ranked them in the «I’d Rather Eat My Own Foot: The Bottom 10» category. I was starting to get more queasy recently when I ate from this place, and now I know why. Please see below.

Hands down best sushi I have had in a while. Fish melted in your mouth and the edamame was cooked to perfection with the right amount of salt. I would recommend getting the 3 basic rolls for $ 15 (great deal right?!). We also splurged on the black monster to try black rice. Again… Melted in your mouth and you didn’t notice the rice (some places it’s all rice with a hint of fish…) the favors blended together amazingly with the perfect hint of cream cheese and spice. Will be coming back PLUS it’s BYOB!!!

This place truly lives up to its name with its large selection of delicious rolls.
My favorite was the flaming roll (literally was served on fire). My group got 4 rolls total and were greatly pleased. I’ve never had their sushi combinations before so it was a pleasant treat to try something new.
Definitely a good place for a date or a casual encounter.

Great food and bonus points for being BYOB!
We got two $ 15 for three sushi rolls and the lettuce wraps. The lettuce wraps were a delightful surprise with lots of salmon and tuna! They definitely did not skimp on the fish even though it was a lettuce wrap and not sushi.
The service was great and it was a wonderful experience. Definitely coming back and trying more of their rolls! They actually light one of their plates on fire. Definitely a gem in Boystown.

Overall: Solid sushi joint in Boystown. I’m a fan.
Food: Sushi Donburri and the three roll maki combo. Solid portions of food, especially the sushi donburri. Essentially, you get like 10 generous pieces of salmon sashimi with a bunch of rice and a salad. There were mushrooms, which was gross but I’ll make an exception. The maki roll combo was solid as well. Oh and as others have said: BYOB!
I feel like I can write a bad descriptive writing piece from my experience at Rollapalooza.
I opened the creaky door and was greeted by a dimly lit room and the strong aroma of wasabi and ginger. I sauntered in, enjoying the sounds of cheerful diners and clicking chopsticks…“
But for real, Rollapalooza was good. My buds and I shared a hearty bottle of wine to some sushi, and got a little rowdy. Because one of my friends failed to make it to Lollapalooza because he got… sleepy, we joked that at least he came to Rollapalooza.

It’s good the place is nicely decorated. It has friendly service and the food is delicious. My husband and I had their sushi combo and a chirashi bowl. Although my bowl was really on a plate. The rice tasted very fresh and the fish tasted fresh and delicious. Would I return here perhaps, they specialize in Sushi rolls here which is nice but I love their sashimi more. I would recommend people to try this if you’re in the area. I’d come here if I were in the area and craving for some sushi. The prices are fair and the people here are nice so I you’ll have a good time dining here.

Rollapalooza is located along Halsted and prides itself on healthier sushi. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very chill albeit loud. I found myself having to yell during some points of my conversation. We ordered the Sun Shui — a roll containing of unagi and smoked salmon. I ordered the Pink Flower and it was aesthetically beautiful. I’ve never had a roll wrapped in pink soybean paper but I liked the less intense taste! The tuna, white tuna, and salmon were so fresh and the asparagus added a great point of texture and flavor. What a fun experience!
