Rock’n Nails

I like the pedicures and atmosphere but they haven’t figured out the scheduling. They are usually understaffed and don’t have any regard for your appointment. I’m not sure why I make one or show up on time because they take me 30 min late. No respect for my personal schedule.

I have passed this nail shop almost daily but yesterday was my first mani pedi here and it was better than I expected. I had no problem getting a 645 appt. even when I called the day of. Even better, they were ready as soon as I arrived. They have an expansive array of colors, both OPI and Essie and top of the line pedicure chairs. The chair massage is… ummmm…thorough :).
My nail tech was fantastic. It is a small operation but they are extremely attentive in catering to their customers. The shop closed at 8pm but that did not change the attention to my nails, my tech worked on me until almost 830pm. I was beyond pleased with the results. The entire staff was patient and focused on providing excellent service.
This spot is also BYOB and has lots of daily specials. I’ve already started planning a treat yourself girls day with my friends.

Updated: The co-​owner of the shop sent me a note via email, explaining what he felt was the other side of the story, and offering the same service for free should I return. It was a professional and empathetic note. I told him I’d update the Unilocal review, although he did not request.
I will not be returning, but always give credit where it is due.

I was here in town for work at the McCormick Place and was badly in need of a full set after spending two days setting up for a trade show. My nails, fingers and hands took a beating. I called and Natalie was super flexible and patient with me especially since my scheduling kept changing. Michael, the nail tech, who worked on my nails was equally nice and super quick. I was in and out of there in about 45 mins.
I love the modern decorations! They have this awesome semicircle bar-​like counter that seats five or six people. Very unique, unlike traditional nail shops where you sit at «stations.»
The pedicure area had comfortable massage chairs with really cool-​looking remote controls. If I had more time or if the weather was warmer, I would’ve loved to have gotten a pedicure too.
Overall I was very impressed with the entire nail shop experience and even more grateful for the hospitality.

I feel that perhaps this salon doesn’t get the due it deserves. First of all, I’ve been coming here since it opened. After some initial growing pains, I settled into the routine that has served me fantastically so far.
I can vouch for their no chip manicures and their regular pedicures – they are the best in the city, hands down. Their prices are lower than most salons, and they are comfortable, clean and convenient.
Make an appointment, people. The owner, Natalie has always been warm and welcoming to me… on the phone and in-​person. She’s does fantastic work but I have to sing the praises of Rose. She is diligent, gentle and meticulous. I’ve never had someone who takes as much pride in her work. She never rushes and also puts time into making sure the foundation of your nails are as strong as they can be… which is my gripe with a few other salons, they rip, gouge and weaken your nails with their no chip removal… just as a note, Rose will also work to repair the damage inflicted by other lesser technicians.
I always call before I come in, and they are always super flexible offering me multiple times. Also they have great pricing for a no chip polish change, as opposed to doing a full manicure as well.
They’ve got my business and if you give either Natalie or Rose (request them when you make an appointment) a chance, they’ll have yours as well.

Rose does great nails. If you go please ask for her. The welcoming upon entering could be better especially by the owner Natalie. She is only welcoming to those that happen to be her clients. Speaking to all when they walk in is good business. Also her phone manner should be better by saying thank you and bye upon hanging up the phone.

Cute south loop location. They are skilled with great customer service. However, they go by appointments so you may not get seen just stopping randomly. Also, sometimes if you have an appointment you still have to wait.

This is my go-​to ever since I moved to the South Loop. They do such a great job. Their mani/​pedi takes longer than I’m used to, but it’s because they take time and effort in the overall experience. I highly recommend them.

I was hoping this would be my neighborhood go to spot, but although it’s clean and modern, the good ends there.
The staff especially the owner are super unfriendly. The vibe is not welcoming. I made an appointment and when I came in she still looked at me like «what are you doing here?» Which is the same look she gives walk ins. Yes you’re busy, but there’s a way to keep customers coming back, unfriendly isn’t the way.
I usually get a vinyl lux mani that lasts over two weeks, so I asked about an up charge for vinyl lux. She said there wasn’t one, but that she recommends opi shine which is better and lasts 10 days, but costs $ 5 more. Fine by me, like I said, my manis last forever so an extra $ 5 is nothing.
Here’s where the real drama ensued… my nails chipped not 24 hours after, so I returned to the salon because I specifically asked about their guarantee. So I go back and try and be polite because it was busy and like I said, I was hoping this would be my spot in the Sloop. She told me she couldn’t make an appointment for me, but that I’d have to come back that day (it was about 2:45.) So I asked how long it would be if I waited, and her response was «I don’t know, we’re busy, but maybe someone can do you in between other people.» Okay so I waited almost an hour before someone who was obviously there only to polish started my nails. The owner said «pick a color», so I picked a nude because of the chipping issue. So the polish girl takes off my polish and the owner says «you shouldn’t have taken off the polish on all only on the chipped ones» which basically was ⁸⁄₁₀ nails. So anyway the girl is almost done polishing and the owner comes over and says «I have to charge you for a polish change because that isn’t the same color.» So I said «you never told me to choose the same color and I chose a different one in case the same thing happened again.» To which she continued to argue with me. So long story short, super rude owner, terrible service and my polish change redo chipped within 24 hours again. So there’s that.

I was in desperate need for a manicure and decided to stop by because they had an opening and I was in the neighborhood. It took me by surprise that the tech stood up the entire time she did my nails. It actually made me uncomfortable. I didn’t like the bar set up because it was uncomfortable to sit at and have your own space. I found it distracting that they didn’t have a receptionist and the tech had to continuously stop doing my nails to answer the phone and make appointments.
Maybe the concept works for some but it wasn’t an experience I will remember for the right reasons.

I’d been wanting to try this place out, but kept going to my usual place. Turns out a couple of my friends go here and they highly recommended it. Well, I went, tried the gel manicure for the first time and I loved it. Rose was my manicurist and she was awesome. the shop is super clean and they do a great job. I’ve officially found a new nail shop. yay!

I wanted to try out this place as it is literally right by our condo. However, being close is not worth it at all. My mani/​pedi took almost two hours. Also, I am used to the gal/​guy that does your pedi, then does your mani. Not the case here. After my pedi, I then sat and waited another 30 minutes for someone to start my mani. Not acceptable when you have an appointment. They need to hire more people. Also, the color selection is not great. As I was getting my pedi she asked if I wanted my foot calluses scrubbed. I said of course. As all my Pedi’s always come with that. That is the whole point. She then charged my an extra $ 10 for that service. I will never stray from salon vision again, even if it is the dead of winter and next door.

I love Rock’n Nails! Natalie is a sweetheart and always offers complimentary wine! The salon is modern and clean and an added bonus, they are open seven days a week.

So, I called this place as I was driving past on my way to another nail salon actually just to see if they were decent enough to go there instead.
Asked «How much for an acrylic fill in?»
The woman on the phone responded «it’s 24 dollars.»
I turned at the next light and came back and parked on the side, may have taken all of four minutes.
Walked in… spoke to the SAME person I just spoke with on the phone…
«Oh, we don’t offer artificial services here»
… It was not point in saying «I literally just spoke with you on the phone» because for whatever reason they weren’t going to service me… so I turned around and left.

I’ve come here twice and both times they’ve turned me away because they say they’re too busy but they have chairs open… I just don’t get it. I even told them I would wait and they said ok but we can take you at 4pm but it’s 12:40; you want me to sit here for hours on end, really??? What the hell? I guess they lost my business. On to the next place!

Absolute worst service I have ever experienced. There is NO street bike parking. So Unilocal info is wrong. When we came with a bike there was no place to park it and the manager was of no use. She didn’t care and wasn’t accommodating in any way.
The girl that did my pani-​medi was still in the training phase so everything she did was checked. She completed my manicure then when I checked it there was gaps all around my cuticle area. Someone else then took the polish off and repainted it. I was there for ages with such terrible service. The pedicure I was so excited to have was a failure also. I didn’t get a good foot scrub or a massage.
For the first time I didn’t tip anyone. Awful. I don’t recommend coming here as quality is poor.
Lack of customer service and skills make this a no go place for me in the future which is a shame as it’s super close to where I live. Oh well! I’m not wasting my money there again :(

I’ve only been here once but my experience was wonderful! Rose gave me an amazing no chip manicure. She took her time shaping my nails just right and meticulously painting them until they were perfect. 3 weeks later and my no chip is just finally starting to look shabby. Typically I get about a week and a half out of a no chip at other salons.
Prices are comparable to other Chicago salons, the store is cute and clean, and I saw little snacks and wine in the waiting area which is nice. Minus 1 star for the snooty guy at the reception desk and the fact that they were playing Disney channel on the TVs when there were no children in the salon.

Awesome place and so happy to have found a neighborhood nail place after just having moved to the area. Very affordable as well!
I had Natalie who was super nice and accommodating and despite the time didn’t rush through anything. Will definitely be a repeat customer!

After getting a botched pedicure at another establishment, I came to Rock ‘N Nails to fix my feet before a date. Firstly, the place is clean, modern, and the music is good. Secondly, they give you free wine. And finally, my nails are PERFECT! Quick service, extremely reasonable prices, friendly staff and quality work. I will definitely be going back!

Awful. The chick couldn’t do eyebrows. I dont have thick brows at all. I go there and she is half ass doing my brows. She used wax 5 times because she kept messin up. then she says «well your eyebrows are thick» I seriously was ready to go off. I asked if someone else could do them and she goes to say something to the receptionist. Another lady came and it her 30 minutes.. 30 MINUTES! !!! AND MY EYEBROWS STILL WE NOT DONE. I AM SO PISSED OFF. I’D NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN
