Robert Morris University

Just wanted to give an update as I recently signed off on my next quarters’ financial plans. I don’t understand how someone who transferred credits can still get into over $ 30,000 (after grants, aid, and scholarships in debt) and still not be done with their degree. This is ridiculous. I could have gone to DePaul or Loyola for less.

Robert Morris is a great school to attend because it’s located right in the heart of the city. There is so much to choose from when it comes to restaurants and shopping. It is also walking distance to Navy Pier which is a great place to enjoy a warm funnel cake :) Robert Morris also give you the opportunity to complete your associates degree within 15 months, which is amazing. Not only is it affordable but the professors are very helpful and encourage you to receive your degree on time.

This school is horrible. I am a current student here (grad date is July 2012) I thought this school was a great choice for me since I work and live on my own and support myself and I am not a traditional college student. RMU claims to have an amazing program for non traditional college students but I have yet to see this. I was lied to about my graduation date and was told by my advisor that I can not expect her to tell me when I will graduate (are you serious?!) My advisor also «forgot» to schedule me in a class I need for graduation and I have to travel and hour and a half by train to a different campus to take the class I need. This results in me sitting in class til 9:30pm waiting til 10:30pm for the next train home and not getting home til almost midinight… all because my advisor is lazy. I have had a similar siutation in the financial department my financial advisor «forgot» to distribute my perkins loan and it caused me to loose out on 1,000 of aid. The school has a bunch of rules against day time students going part time and not being able to talk online classes. (I thought they understood that students worked?!?) But if you are an athelete they will bend all of these rules for you. I was told I can not go part time my last quarter even tho I only need to classes to graduate they expect me to take extra classes I do not need because of their «rules» about day time students having to be part time. I hate this school they do not care about anyone expect having a good reputation, they need to start focusing on their students and less about their crappy football team.

Good School, Good Reputation, Good Education. Disregard Alarmist reviews; the school and education is solid, well respected, faster, and cheaper than most comparable schools.

Depending on when you are reading this, I am either currently enrolled at RMU, or have graduated (Graduation Date Feb. 2011). I came to RMU because of the recognition the Admissions team presented me. I fell into the trap of getting wrapped up my all the pretty picture and lights. RMU presents this image of being cutting edge, being more practicing practical education, and the big turn key of Graduating earlier.
First off when you are presented your schedule you are force fed classes. There is little room to make changes or pursue outside interest.
Second admissions will say anything to get you in the door (yes, I know this happens at any school, but they will call and email right to the weekly legal limit before harassment.
Third for RMU to really push this «Not-​For-​Profit» image it doesn’t do much to protect the interest of the students or its Professors.
Fourth and maybe my favorite, if you look at the amount of time you study at RMU, and compare it to a traditional 4 year institution and figure out how early you get out taking courses over the summer, then subtract the breaks you get to take at the traditional school, you technically would graduate earlier if you were to fill in those gaps with a class or two, compared to RMU’s overloaded year.
If you plan on attending RMU and your from out of state, don’t plan on going home too often the breaks are too short.
Finally, I will say that from my experience the Professors are genuine and try to help those who want to be helped. The schools philosophy of trying following the latest and greatest doesn’t follow suit. You will pay way too much in books, and get very little in return for it. Save your money and go to a cheaper school, really the headache once your here is not worth it.

I think I’m getting the best education for my money here.
–All professors have at least a Master’s degree.
–Free career, intern, tutor services.
–Great lounge on 7^th floor, pool tables, food.
–Occasionally have promotions for students like free food, free massages, etc.
–Every class is real-​world applied, career focused.
–Non-​profit
–Seems like 85% of my classes are relevant to my major (marketing, accounting, management, business), not much science or art, unless requested.
–Tuition is $ 19,800, about $ 10,000 less than DePaul and if it’s education you’re after and not so much bar hopping after class, this is likely to be the best bang for you buck.
All in all, the university is highly underestimated and should be considered in the running with other colleges like DePaul, Loyola, and Columbia.

Decent school across street from DePaul’s Loop Campus. They recently changed their name to Robert Morris University, despite an unaffiliated school in Pennsylvania already having this name. Decent school, but reputation a little below U of Chicago, Northwestern, DePaul, Loyola, and UIC. Main building (Second Leiter Building) used to be a Sears, Roebuck and Company dept. store, they lease their buildings, so they do not own any buildings. School is a 1^st Tier in the regional universities section of US News and World Report’s College Ranking. They share the Fornelli Hall dorm in the Pittsfield Building with Roosevelt U. and also have some dorm space in the University Center of Chicago shared with DePaul, Columbia and Roosevelt.

This simple exterior was typical of the large commercial buildings in downtown Chicago. The windows are large and the piers separating them are relatively thin. Built in 1891, this was originally the Second Leiter Building and then was a Sears store for many years. Robert Morris College is now located at this serviceable building, right across from the Harold Washington Library.

Most people in Chicago would probably say that there are more desirable places to get a degree, but this one is at least relatively affordable and conveniently located near Harold Washington Library. I hear the alumni network is also pretty decent. Professional degrees abound.

A great education, with a variety of degree options. It is private, though, so it’s not cheap, especially if you don’t have a lot of financial aid. My husband went here, and his degree has served him well.
