Reggies Rock Club

This is a great venue for live music. The room is perfect for a slightly bigger show. The sound is usually superb, and there isn’t a bad spot in the room. Ticket and drink prices are typical for a Chicago establishment. I’ve been to a lot of shows here, over the years, and I must say their security is professional. They take no crap, but they are also nice people who act professionally, not like meat heads! Last few perks are… the music joint next door has good food, there’s a record store upstairs, and there’s a rooftop bar… all in the same building.

The first part of the evening was a big fat 5 at the music venue. My friends and I were attending an event there, and had so much more fun than we had expected. The setup of the venue made this the best karaōke experience I’ve ever had. Plus, drinks were pretty cheap. After the venue closed for the night, we headed next door for an after show drinks, where the other part of the night ended with a big fat zero. The bartender was extremely rude, unprofessional, and derogatory towards one of my friends solely based on a song she requested. Just because you don’t like the song she picked doesn’t mean that you should publicly make fun of her age, gender, or race. If you only want certain music playing in your bar, then don’t ask your crowd for song requests! As a result, our entire event group left the venue, and I definitely won’t be returning.

This Place is a great chill spot… Food is Good as well as the drinks. Live band on Tuesday. Great for a simple outing with friends or date.

I went last night to meet a friend for drinks and he and his friends were watching the football game. The server was incredibly rude and condescending. He also used profanity. I do not know if this is the norm for this place, but it was extremely off-​putting. The food also looked decidedly unappetizing. I would not dare try the $ 1 «beef» taco. My friend ordered it and who knows where the «beef» actually came from. I would never come here again.

Reggies is such a fun venue! I am with APHA Student Assembly and we held a social event there during our conference in Chicago a couple days ago. It was SO fun! The event manager Jody is amazing to work with! I recommend Reggies for any event you have in Chicago. All of the staff are cool and very inviting EXCEPT one bartender Bert who is very rude and unprofessional. If you avoid him you are sure to have an excellent time at Reggies! Thank you Reggies!

Excellent venue for live music versus sittin home listen to da Raaadio! Diverse and excellent food menu. The food, in the restaurant section, is surprisingly well prepared and a delight to the palette when compared to other music venues JUST offering a limited «bar food» menu. Definitely a cut above the rest!
If you like flipping thru vinyl record bins — ya gotta checkout Reggie’s record store. It’s a bit of a «flashback» but quite hip, flower power — like very cool man! So, put your boots, happy face and party hat on. You get what you pay for and then some, i.e., a good deal and great time! Get together with some good friends and give Reggie’s a go! Very highly recommended as an effective pick me up, anti depressant, shot in the arm and/​or just gittin out for a good time after a tough week.

I had no idea this place existed until I went on their website to study up on what I would be getting myself into before attending the Wishbone Ash show. In an area of the city that was once home to a thriving live music scene, Reggies carries on the tradition, despite having only a few remaining music venue neighbors. From the calendar of shows, to the shuttle buses to concerts and record store upstairs, Reggies is a music lover’s dream come true. With a diversity of performers featured almost every night of the week, there is pretty much something for everyone. Although the smallness of the venue is certainly a consideration, and in some cases a drawback, I prefer the intimate setup and the ability to drink in the sights and sounds, not only in terms of the music being played but also the people watching. The sightline from the bar to the stage was decent and it seemed an overall better perch from which to watch the action versus sitting at one of the tables or, worse, a booth in the corner.
As far as the ambiance, I would characterize Reggies as rustic roadhouse. Vintage rock posters cover exposed brick walls, with weathered wood and battered old park benches enhancing the old-​time patina. Modern touches include flat screen TVs and a selection of craft brews in addition to the selections on tap. I particularly enjoyed the day’s drink special-​$ 5 Maker’s Mark-​which put me in mind of Friday even on Monday evening. All of the patrons I saw were at home in this space, bound by a love of the band and brews. Case in point was the guy seated next to me at the bar, who felt comfortable enough to start munching an apple once the music had gotten underway.
As the evening was winding down, I took a look at the rooftop. Certainly, the cursory glance doesn’t warrant a separate review of this space, which has been a feature of Reggies for the past seven years. For a warm autumn night there was a decent-​size crowd and this spot looked like more of a neighborhood hangout, with bar seating and a couple of flat screens. As I stood around upstairs, the green EL line rumbled by, mere feet away, bringing me back to the reality of the city. The record store is also worth a look, for anyone looking to relive those halcyon days before iTunes and streaming.

Anyone working here today?!? We sat on the patio for a few minutes. I went inside to get our own menus. We waited a few more minutes. Still no one around to take our order. Ten minutes later, we left. I usually like Reggie’s, but the service has been awful (or in today’s case, non-​existent) lately. What happened to Michael and the other servers I usually see here?

I’ve been to a few shows here and really enjoyed myself. We’ve seen small-​time groups as well as major punk bands. I already got my tickets for Leftover Crack!
I’ve always been a kind of awkward person but I feel comfortable here. My brother and I have been coming to Reggie’s Record Breakers since before we could get into the bar. What really makes Reggie’s for me is the food and the shuttle. One of my favorite memories will always be sitting in the Reggie’s roof top eating amazing burgers in late spring with my best friend. They have a shower up there just like the one in Sox Park.
We took the free shuttle to and from Riot Fest ²⁄₃ days this past weekend and were lucky enough to get on because a Reggie’s employee really took the lead and organized everyone waiting. He was also checking in with the bus driver to see how far he was. While you’re on the bus, you can drink. They sell beer and pass out free water. You’ll chuckle as you watch people on the street gawk at the bus.
Parking at Reggie’s is ridiculously easy to find. There are SpotHero spots in the alley in the next block over. There’s also a ton of street parking but you gotta feed the meters. The Red Line is also nearby. Honestly, I hadn’t visited the south side much before I ever stepped foot in Reggie’s and it kind of opened a new world for me as an 18 year old. Thanks for everything, Reggie’s.

I used to love Reggie’s, now they charge for water and have real weird lighting schemes for the stage. Stop blinding the audience. I asked the bartenders nicely and they did give me free cups of water twice because I I was also buying drinks probably. So at least the people who work here are sane. I’ll leave it at 3 stars for now. No water fountains or free water should be illegal. Reggie’s, you’re falling down a crappy crappy slope.

Hands down best spot in the city! Perfect food, perfect service, and a awesome atmosphere (down stairs that is, roof top is cool but I enjoy the real feal)

I’m by no means an audiophile but I can be picky about sound engineering. Four bands played at Reggies last night, and the sound was bad during all four of them. More often than not an instrument was either inaudible, or way louder than other instruments. If you come here to enjoy the vibe or just have some fun this maybe a good place, but if want to hear your favorite band with a decent sound, I’d say look elsewhere.
No comments on drink selection or food.

Not sure how this works but it seems that as venues get smaller for me they also become more comfortable. Mental. Science. Who knows?
I’ve had my share of stadium concerts but I’ve had more share of intimate venues which are by far the best shows. Now I’ve only seen two shows at Reggies and it’s already a favorite venue. I started out at Metro mainly, HOB for bigger artists, but Reggies has a balance of bringing in underground as well as mainstream artists for only really being able to house a capacity in the lower hundreds I would think.
And like I said at my most comfortable. I was mid crowd on the main floor and had no trouble making it out for drinks or bathroom breaks. You could even go outside… HOB has a problem with that.
One thing I’d like to know is what’s the food policy? Swear as I was on my way to the back bar we see a couple huddled around a to– go container of chicken wings. No harm, no foul… until the guy starts to confront a friend of mine about giving him some dinner space. There was a back and forth of words until his girl wisened up. She realized there was power in numbers or that if the confrontation went any Ionger I was gonna make sure their romantic wing dinner was all over the floor. Don’t eat in a venue people.
I look forward to more shows here plus the location is bar none. I always find street parking. There is also the Music Joint and Rooftop to keep you entertained.

I will never step foot in this place again– even if John Lennon and George Harrison came back from the dead, reunited the Beatles and performed at this unmanaged venue. Terrible service from the bartenders. Lousy attitudes and very slow. Zach the door guy to the bar was the only one worth having a conversation with.

The interiors resemble a dungeon of brick awash in blood, making it the ideal mecca for heavy metal concerts in the Midwest.
It is at Reggie’s Rock Club that two friends and I experienced Alehorn of Power VIII, an evening-​long summit of the underground’s greatest torchbearers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal: Lady Beast (from my town of Pittsburgh, and it was my first time ever seeing them!), Savage Master, Valkyrie, Chicago’s own High Spirits, Bible of the Devil (also from Chicago), and the uncanny headliner, Slough Feg, led by philosophy professor (!) Mike Scalzi. Within this house of flawless, hessian acoustics, vocals soared like eagles, harmonized twin leads clanged like dueling swords, drums pounded like hammers of war, new allegiances were formed with fellow fans from out of state, and ironclad memories were forged…
Unbeatable bar food from the venue’s comprehensive bill of fare was also had while the following strains assailed the hall of stone…
Reggie’s corpulent, crispy, severely succulent Buffalo wings stabbed my tongue much like…
Excelsior! Reggie’s also does desserts! When I discovered that factoid, I was compelled to order a wedge of lovingly prepared, buttery-​crusted, Apple Pie with a molten, cinnamon-​tinged filling and a ball of wholesome vanilla bean ice cream, its delectable nature causing me to do the…
And bless the metal heart of Reggie, whoever he is, for serving the underrated RC Cola. My favorite soda pop ain’t always easy to find.

I love the Rock club. I have seen a few shows here and it is a great place to catch an intimate show. What I mean by that is that the rock club is not massive. It is just enough to be a big show and small enough to get you close enough to the performers to make it memorable.
They also have all kinds of performers here. Not just rock. We have seen bands, DJ’s and solo artists here. Many of them from very different genres of music.
They have a bar in the back and usually someone by the stairs with a tub of beer. I have always had a great time here at a show and it is a very different experience than being at a concert with thousands of people and barely seeing an artist from where you are standing.

A friend and I went here. We wanted to try something new. We came in a rainy Saturday afternoon. They ID upon entering. Since I wasn’t here for a performance I can only comment on the food and service. The food was decent nothing amazing. The server was alert and made several suggestions. She seemed friendly.
While there a patron and the bar tender got into a little quarrel and a unique young lady with her clothes falling off and hair all over the place came to use the facilities and drink. It seemed normal noone budged or looked shocked. Nothing too out if the ordinary for the customers or workers. Definitely a lively place. It’s best to leave the kids at home and stay strapped.

This is a review of the Rock Club, not the bar next door (which we love).
I have never had something like this happen to me! We got there early and ate next door (which I highly recommend the food is stellar and the staff over here is top notch) However that is where our positive experience ended.
We got in line for the show at around 8. The doors were supposed to open then, but did not. We ended up finally getting in at exactly 9:46. Missing the first band entirely. At first I was thinking maybe they were too crowded and that was the problem, but people inside confirmed there was only a handful of people there for the opening band.
When we asked the security guard who was checking people in for an explanation, he said «should have gotten here earlier». Basically blaming their slow check in process on us. He also approached me and was very rude after we left the show.
We went and complained and got our ticket refund. To be fair the people who were working inside the venue were really apologetic and sympathetic to our situation, as our sole purpose for attending the concert was to see the opening band.
So all in all I wasted almost two hours of my life standing in line for nothing and then got chewed out and disrespected by a security guard who couldn’t effectively do his job to get people in to see a show that they paid for.
When I called the next day to tell them what had happened the «manager» who I spoke to on the phone said «you got your refund what else do you want?» Well I want you to give a shit!
