I think the key to enjoying this place is that you can’t go in expecting it to be «good». What you can expect is fast service and a hot dog and fresh fries for $ 3.25. I expected a dive and I got a dive. I left happy and with $ 1.75 change in my pocket.

Red Castle must be for those people that really enjoy paying cash for slop. I tried to like this place as the dingy atmosphere and beyond dive greased décor were screaming we serve great diner food. I tried the italian sausage and italian beef. Both were served soaked in bland au jus that turned the bread into a sloppy slurry mush mound and looked/tasted like they had been stewing for years. The taste of the beef sandwich was repulsive, like old rotten beef that had never been salted once. I could not finish either of those meals, making the fries look stellar in comparison. True its cheapo and usually packed at lunch, but don’t be deceived, head over the On-The-Mall and eat the dog and fries combo for $ 5.50. Red Castle, you have failed miserably at even the most remedial of tasks.

I’ve only had their hotdog and fries twice for lunch during work days. The fries was fresh and tasty as most fried food are. Hot dog was okay. If you are in this area, I would suggest you to go to «On The Mall», which is right by CTA’s Polk Pink Line Station, for a cleaner and larger sitting area, or to Jim’s Original Hot Dog near I90/94 and Roosevelt St, for a larger dog, grilled onions and complimentary fries.
