Re-tails

This place is amazing and saved me a lot of money! My kids wanted hamsters and although we were told they are both female, it didn’t seem that obvious when we were home. I got two hamster cages from Re-​tails for less than what I would have paid for one at the retail pet supply store down the road. There was a good selection of gently used cages (in great condition and super clean with all the parts included), as well as a few new ones. The store has some fun events on a monthly basis and their customer service is great. Lauren, the owner, is super nice and helpful, she’ll even meet you after hours if needed. I highly recommend the place if you’re looking for gates, carriers — anything you’ll need for your pets. They’ll also sell your used pet supplies on consignment if you don’t need them anymore. The store is lovely and you can just feel the love the owner puts into her business.

I am so glad this shop is in our neighborhood! What a find! I am a backyard chicken farmer, and I have 4 young hens. One of my hens, quite unexpectedly, went broody one day when we were gone and unable to collect the eggs. She saw a clutch of eggs in the coop and decided now was the time to be a mommy! I panicked! My poor chicken plucked all her belly feathers in the middle of Chicago winter and proceeded to needlessly brood, hogging the nesting boxes for my other impatient little poulettes! I phoned Re-​tails, and Lauren had a perfectly sized, perfectly priced little broody cage for my moody chicken. I was relieved the moment I walked in the door. The store is welcoming and tidy. All the used items are in great condition, and there were a lot of fun, local items for sale that I will have to go back for another time! Thanks to Lauren, I had the broody cage set up in no time. Our little peep’s hormone surge ended, and our backyard flock is back to normal. All is well. Thank you for helping us through our first broody hen!

I absolutely LOVE this shop! They have tons of high quality pet supplies, especially for cats and dogs, that won’t break your bank. What’s even better is that if you donate gently used pet items, a portion of those sales will go to a local animal shelter. In my opinion, if you’re going to buy supplies for your pets anyway, why not have some of the proceeds go to a local shelter while supporting a small, locally– owned business? It’s a win-​win in my book.
I stopped by on Halloween to donate some never-​used pet toys and left with a Halloween costume, two bowls, and a rain coat for my dog… for under $ 20! Yes, under $ 20. Some of my items were brand new and still in the original packaging! I would have easily paid double that at a big box pet store. They also have quite a selection of animal carriers, crates, pet sweaters/​jackets, leashes, collars, bowls, and even pet-​inspired art. Well– behaved pets are more than welcome to shop in the store with you. I had been running errands all day, so didn’t bring my dog with me this instance, but definitely plan to next time.
