My specialities include: repetitive stress and work related injuries, neck, shoulder, and back pain, anxiety, PMS, and depression. I especially like to work with hairdressers, bartenders, baristas, and tattoo artists.

I am a committed ally of the LGBTQI community and provide a safe place for people of all body types to seek care.

At Practical Magic, I offer affordable acupuncture out of the belief that healthcare is a right and not a privilege. I am committed to providing thorough, compassionate care to all individuals, regardless of class, color, spiritual or religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or gender identity. I promise to respect your symptoms and experiences and pledge to always offer a safe, judgement-​free space for you to heal and to be heard.

After the recommendation from two friends, I went to see Sue to help with issues regarding my back. She is kind, knowledgable, and friendly. It is clear she is passionate about helping others– and is flexible with her prices and schedule to make that happen. I have had both immediate and lasting relief through her treatment and will continue to use her services.

I wish there were the ability to rate Magic Sue an 11. I am a difficult client, so I will spare you the narrative. Let’s work in bullets:
— I am currently drinking the tea that she made me, and I will sleep restfully tonight
— I had a conversation with my medical doctor and brought up a point that Sue casually mentioned and my MD said, «ooooh, good point, let’s make that change»
— My knees do not hurt anymore when I ascend stairs because of Sue’s work
— My chronically-​congested shoulder and trap system is moving better because of Sue’s work
— I think about the world differently because of conversations that I’ve had with Sue
— Sue invited me to bring my dog to the appointment even though she is an AVID cat lover (that’s customer service)
— The music that she puts on is GREAT– it’s a place to zone out completely
— She doesn’t get mad at you when you don’t do the things that she suggests, even when you still manifest the problems that her suggestions would resolve

I had a fantastic experience with Sue! I used to live in China, and I became an acupuncture convert. I hadn’t yet found a Chinese medicine practitioner that suited my tastes and budget, but my search is now over.
Sue has an excellent personality– calm and reassuring but not boring. She repeatedly summarized what I’d told her as we went through my symptoms and general health, making sure that she had everything right. The needling was painless, and I felt extraordinarily relaxed afterwards. She’s also prescribed me some herbs, which I’ve just ordered and can’t wait to try.
One note: as of 6÷2÷14, Google maps displays the correct address but the wrong pin location on the map. It’s actually in Wicker Park, at Milwaukee and Honore, close to The Bongo Room.

I’ve been seeing Sue during the my third trimester of my pregnancy for anxiety reduction (no meds while I’m steam cookin’ this little baby!). This was my first try with acupuncture and I would have been pleased with a mild placebo effect. With that said, Sue has completely made me a total believer and convert to acupuncture. I have been going weekly now and plan on doing it through my pregnancy and beyond. Sue is awesome.

I have been working with Sue at Practical Magic over the past 6 weeks on an issue with numbness in my arms and hands, similar to, but different from carpal tunnel syndrome. During the first visit she listened to my concerns and asked questions about my work and physical activities that may be contributing to the problem. She explained the muscles and nerves involved and really helped me understand more about what’s going on with my body.
The treatment plan she designed for me was very thoughtful and holistic, involving acupuncture, Chinese herbs and physical therapy. not to mention the healing powers of Motown music while I was relaxing at her office :).
I should also mention that this was my first experience with acupuncture and I’m somewhat neurotic around needles. Sue was both very friendly and professional. She really helped me feel relaxed and safe throughout the whole experience.
I experienced some relief immediately and continue to experience progress with each visit.

Sue has single-​handedly converted me to this approach to healing and wellness. I went into my first appointment very nervous and afraid of the needles. I never would have imagined that I would look forward to my appointments so much. We’ve been addressing pain, stress, and psych issues.
Sue definitely takes a holisic approach and wants to talk to get a good picture of your whole self rather than just treating the symptoms of one complaint, which I appreciate. Something has to be said for her bedside manner, because she puts me at ease and I have no trouble talking about gross or personal physical and mental health issues.
Oh and one time I had the flu and she gave me herbs that cured me in record time.
