Porfi Iron Works

Well Gorgio had my last review removed. Apparently he claimed I wasnt the one having the 1^st hand experience.
I can assure him, Unilocal,and my bank account, I did indeed have a 1^st hand experience with this HORROR!
Im showing some photos of this «quality» work.
We asked him to return to fix this mess and he said he would for MORE MONEY!
Right.
I find most of these reviews suspicious. They all sound like quite the praise. His work was so bad I cant believe I’m the only one.

Giorgio was incredibly helpful in replacing the railings at my home. The old ones were damaged and rusted. He reviewed via some pictures I sent, and was able to come out and take measurements very quickly. They have been installed and look fantastic. He was very communicative from start to end — would highly recommend Profi Iron Works for any kind of work like this in the future.

Stay away from this guy. I had two fences installed by Giorgio. Within a month, both were not closing. I called back 3 times over a period of time and asked Giorgio to come back and fix it. On each occasion, Giorgio promised to be back. Fences are still not closing and Giorgio most likely continues to claim that he is the best in Chicago. I would find another contractor who stands by his work.

I was so impressed by Giorgio. He is an artisan who takes pride in his work. Everything is hand-​crafted and custom-​made just like in the old days in Chicago.
I needed a new fence, gates and iron staircase. I had an idea of what I wanted, but I was unable to articulate it. Giorgio spent a lot of time asking me questions and thinking about the plans and was somehow able to intuit a design I loved.
People stop and stare when they pass my fence. It is THAT beautiful. And it greatly improved my property value. Giorgio was a pleasure to work with and always returned calls and e-​mails quickly. He also worked with my schedule to get everything done on time.
I highly recommend Porfi Iron Works.

My husband and I own a house in Roscoe village, and we needed a new gate/​fence and new railings.
I contacted Porfi Iron Works, Giorgio responded back promptly, and was very helpful on ideas and suggestions that would work well to what we were wanting.
The price was very reasonable, we were happy about that, they finished the new gate and railings last week, and we are extremely happy with a great well done job!

The floating metal staircase in our home was beginning to wear down and get loose. Giorgio came over to take a look at fixing them up. He had some great ideas for making them more sturdy while keeping the aesthetic. Gave me a fair quote right on the spot. A few days later, he and a partner fixed the stairs quickly and professionally. The stairs are now sturdy and look great! I would definitely recommend him and plan on working with him again on future projects.

Installed a fence that was shorter than agreed upon.
Swears and screams at customers (building residents).
Beyond slow in completing duties. A simple fencing project that should have taken no more than a week, took months to complete.
Doesn’t answer questions regarding his work, instead chooses to insult the paying customer who has questions.
Sloppy and unprofessional.

Giorgio was prompt, professional, and displayed excellent quality of work. He repaired a rotted post and extended a latch catch for us. He was very quick in responding while others did not call back at all. He also completed the work in a timely manner. Previously, we contracted with another company that is also highly rated on Unilocal to fix a different post. Giorgio’s work was visibly better, I wish we had called Giorgio the first time. You can tell Giorgio takes pride in his work. He isalso very polite and courteous, which I appreciated, as he dealt primarily with my wife. As a bonus, he noticed one of the tops on our fence was falling off and welded it and painted it for free. We will definitely use him again.

Finding reputable fence workers who are actually response is really hard in Chicago. Thankfully I came across Porfi Iron works. Giorgio came out quickly for a quote, stuck to his timelines throughout the process. The workmanship was great and the customer service and communication were constant. You will probably pay a bit more, but the piece of mind that they will be responsive is worth it.

Giorgio responded quickly to my initial proposal request, and he delivered a quote that was less than any other bidder. I hired him based on those facts and his previous 5 star reviews, however his work was not 5 stars. We asked Giorgio to rebuild a back fence and install a motorized gate opener.
Giorgio took longer to complete the job than he had originally proposed.
He waited until the very end of the job to remove the demo’d gate– which was an absolute mess in our back yard, and despite the fact that we repeatedly requested he remove the debris.
He measured the job incorrectly, so we can’t use our pedestrian gate when our vehicle gate is open.
He installed the gate without the electric safety eye, and when we pointed this out to him, he claimed that the motor didn’t come with that feature. We had to remind him that the function was requested in our original request AND his proposal, and then miraculously he found the electric eye function in the motor box.
There were other little issues during the course of our 3 week project, but too minor to list.
The epic embarrassment continues, as the motorized function continues to falter, and now Giorgio’s response time is not as quick. We spoke on a Thursday, and he agreed to look at our issues the following day. And then he never showed and never called. Today, Saturday, I had my last interaction with Giorgio, when he told me that he didn’t show up on Friday because of the rain (that began after 4PM). My wife stayed at home all day waiting for him, and he never called. His work was unreliable, and his schedule is unreliable. Beware of hiring an unreliable (and far too self important and self confident) contractor.

After coming home from vacation to see someone had clipped our iron fence to reach in and unlock the back gate door we were on the search for someone to help repair it. I found Giorgio on Unilocal and contacted him via email. He responded back super quick and said he was available. He came out the next day and gave us an estimate which was very reasonable! 3 days later he installed an awesome iron plate! As others have reviewed he is extremely easy to work with and he takes pride in his work. He even painted the gate and fixed a bottom lock that was not functional! A+++

You can add us to the list of reviewers singing Giorgio’s praises. He truly is a nice guy, and a nice guy to work with. We have been rehabbing a three-​flat in East Humboldt, so naturally we have had to deal with a number of contractors from various trades. So far Giorgio is the only one whose work we’ve been 100% satisfied with. We’ve had him do three jobs around our building (repair/​extend fence, build/​install casing for iron mailbox, and paint the whole fence) and each time he knocked them out in a day, and for a fair price. He takes pride in his work, and it shows. He also has a construction background, so he’s provide some very valuable advice over the past year on other projects we have in progress. We will definitely use him again.

Giorgio is professional, prompt and reliable. He is imaginative and skilled with his tools.
