Player’s Bar and Grill

This place is closed now!
I think the players up north is still open, but the ogden location has been replaced by Mahoney’s Pub and Grille.

This place is pretty OK. The chicken fingers were solid, the service was surprisingly attentive given the crowd, and, while it was crowded, it wasn’t as loud as I would have expected. Maybe because the Bears suck? Who knows… anyway it’s nice to go to a place where they let you sit around for several hours without calculating how much you’re spending and booting you a la ESPNZone. I’ll probably be back next weekend.

Decent place to watch a game and grab a beer.
I went after midnight, and the kitchen closed at 11 (I think?) but some people were still eating their onion rings, so I sat and salivated for the duration of my time there.
Not a shithole by any stretch, but not a place I’d been chomping at the bit to get to.

When this place first opened I absolutely loved it! I thought the décor was nice and I loved the TV’s that were everywhere. It seems as if it has gone down a bit.
I think it’s utterly ridiculous to have to make a reservation at a sports bar! I understand that big games will attract a big crowd but so what! Everyone else in America knows that so get your butt there early! It just pisses me off to walk into a sports bar with empty tables and the hostess telling me there’s no where to sit. Whatever lady.
Now the service has been okay. All of the servers are chicks (is that on accident? I think not). The problem I have is that they all walk around with this big «I don’t care, I will get to you when i feel like it» attitude. This doesn’t work for me. There was one girl who was really nice. Of course she didn’t last long and no longer works there.
The food is pretty good. Honestly this place has the best buffalo wings I’ve ever had. Can’t really speak highly about any of the other stuff though. The beer is good the drinks are weak. I don’t know I guess this place is just mediocre at best.
Basically I only go here when I have a buffalo chicken wing craving. That’s about it.

This place, in my opinion, is an absolute hole. The service sucked, the beer is stale, and the Stoli drink special I tried to choke back was clearly well vodka.
On the other hand, the food was actually pretty good, and I have friends who like to hang there, so it can’t be all that bad, right? Right?

I cannot go higher than 3 stars because I am almost certain my judgment of this place is severely impaired, and I learned a long while back to trust your instincts. (See my Twisted Spoke review) After our horrible experience at Twisted Spoke this place seemed like heaven. We went on what must be a slow time for them so we had the place to ourselves and an attentive server. (She had no choice really)
The food is well, bar food. We were an easy bunch to please and we succumbed to their special which was something from St. Louis and something from Colorado on Sunday.
The one thing that was commendable about the place (Here also retain your perspective) was the nice smelling bathrooms.
I can’t say I will return here but if I am in this ‘hood I will pick it over Twisted Spoke any day… and two times on Sunday. This is why you shouldn’t trust my review.

As for going there for a PPV event… make a reservation. They have a bunch of TVs on VERY loud, which is great, otherwise you would not be able to hear the sound over the many many people shoved in the bar. It is a pretty big place with a front and back room. The front room has the bar, which makes the back room much more appealing, including a closer seat to the bathrooms! The food is very tasty; I’ve never been disappointed. They have a variety of munchies including, wings, jalapeño poppers and hummus.

ever since this boiling mass of euro-​tackiness came to the neighborhood, the quaint charm of little west town (such as it was) has plummeted. for those of us who reside right next door, do we need all our parking to be taken away? do we need the summertime drunken denizens peeing on our cars? i say no.
whiny? maybe. i may not be the most sportif of gals but i can hang at a sports bar. what i can’t hang with are insufferable proprietors who overcharge you for food and drink, consistently save the best/​most of the tables for their friends (hello, World Cup Finals!!) and then have the NERVE to treat the locals like they’re the byproduct at a bukkake party.
when it’s not game night or summertime, it’s sort of ok to sit at the bar and just chill for a bit. (Fresco’s backyard patio, however, is better than sitting on a hot sidewalk while car exhaust belches into your face.) i’d rather go here than the Spoke down the street, simply because the bar is larger. but the menu is an effort and while the quality started out promising, it’s apparently hard to maintain. if it’s game day, forget it. you will leave frustrated, ignored and feeling like you just left some weird college party.
(unless, of course, that’s exactly what you’re looking for.)

This is a cheesy, Euro-​trash hangout. That’s not a bad thing. I’ve eaten here once and the food was ok. My friend took me there because he thinks the girls that work there are hot. I guess that’s as good a reason as any?

I get the feeling this place went downhill quick. When it first opened it was seemed like a promising addition filling a gap in the neighborhood. The first time I ordered food while watching some games I was surprised to find some of it was far better than I would expect from a «sports bar».
Fast forward 1yr+. The place just started to get a more run down and not well maintained feeling. Pool table broken, other things broken, out of stuff, etc. Minor things alone that when never addressed just seem to add up. Add to that the service more often than not being C at best. In the end I think the current management (or at least as of ⁰⁵⁄₀₆) is poor and really isn’t concerned about their customers.
With any luck maybe the management will change, the place will get some new energy, and I will start going back.

This place might deserve 5 stars.
The food is great. They have one of the best tasting burgers in the city, and they’re huge.
The space is 12,000sf and has something close to 50 plasmas and a huge projection that is pretty sharp at night (but dim during college day games). A great place to watch a game– many tables have their own plasma and they will happily change the channel.
The beer of the month is $ 3.50 and is usually something good like warsteiner.
The service is slow as death, but… the waitresses are eastern euro knockouts!

The Miller High Life is more expensive than a Guiness draught??? What is up with that? Unless our non-​English-​speaking-​eye-​candy waitress was ripping us off. Food is okay, not great. Service left something to be desired.

I agree with the previous reviews. This is one of my favorite spots to watch any game. Especially when it’s NCAA tourney time! There are dozens of plasma TVs everywhere! The menu is quite gourmet, considering it is a sports bar. They have at least 6 different burgers on the menu (my favorite is the Pepper Burger!), and also have an extensive beer list. The service is usually good too!
EDIT – As of recent, I have been back here, and the service was terrible, and the restaraunt has been over packed to where it was so loud you couldn’t hear anything.

my experience was wonderful. the food was great, it could pass as upscale restaurant food if the setting was different. our waitress was very friendly and helpful. its a great place to watch sports because they have a ton of tvs and one enormous one on the back wall! they have awesome imported beers as well

I’m not a big sports fan at all but this is one sports bar I would definitely love to become a regular at! its impossible not to get in the spirit of things here there are so many crystal clear tvs playing all sorts of sports! They’ve got a ton of memorabilia on the walls. This location is new so all their furniture is so nice and clean! The waitstaff is super friendly and helpful, the bartender tried for 10 minutes to find the game we wanted on the tv and our waitress was very attentive! Try the brie, its super good!
