For over a year Peter Field has been considered one of the top alteration and tailoring shops in the city of Chicago. Schedule an appointment today to visit our Clubhouse and you’ll leave knowing why our alteration and tailoring team is the best in Chicago.

Located 1 block from the El right downtown, we are open late 9am-​9pm, 7 days a week by appointment! We welcome walk-​ins, but prefer appointments to make sure we have someone on site to assist you. We tailor all menswear and most womenswear, we unfortunately do not alter dressed and gowns.

Pricing is listed on our website as well, we try to be as transparent as possible.

With our skilled seamstresses and tailors we utilize our deep skill sets in alterations and tailoring to make everything fit better. We’ll even tailor custom suits from companies like Indochino, Black Lapel, Dragon Inside, and Haberdash.

Nicholas founded Peter Field in 2011 after teaching himself how to sew and create his own neckties. Following a successful Kickstarter project in January of 2013 Peter Field moved in to their current downtown Loop location in Chicago and has grown from a team of 1 to a team of 10 in only two years.

Peter Field strives to be best at everything they touch and every process they have in place, currently with a heavy focus on altering men’s clothing and creating small men’s accessories. With a diverse team and equally diverse skill sets, there are few things that Peter Field cannot accomplish at a high level.

I took a pair of suit pants to Peter Field to be hemmed. They clearly have a really strong focus on customer service. They ask you to reserve a time ahead of time so that one person can help answer any questions as you try on your clothes. They did a great job on my pants, though I was surprised that it cost extra to get it done in two weeks. They said that their standard time to hem a pair of pants is 4 – 6 weeks, which seemed a little long to me, but maybe that’s just an industry standard?
Anyway, I recommend you check them out. Other tailors I’ve been to have been gruff and didn’t have time for me, but not these guys. It was really nice to get my questions answered and know I was in good hands.

Ben is great, this place is great. It isn’t cheap, but I spent years wearing suits mis-​altered at the dry cleaners, which is cheap. The difference is suit and slacks that are «jeans comfortable» all the time… and they don’t look like they’re baggy, hump backed or cinched. Service is fast and a rush-​order is no huge deal. They make a bargain look like a custom-​tailored suit.

I don’t have much to say other than I waited until the Wednesday before my Sunday wedding to get my suit re-​altered, and Ben and crew had me looking sharp by Thursday. I paid for the rush, but I went from being obscenely stressed about the whole thing to totally at ease. Also, for what it’s worth, Ben also pointed out areas where I could save money (buying a new white button up as opposed to paying for a rushed alteration, for example) throughout the process which I really appreciated. I would happily give them my business again and with proper notice this time.

I love dressing well but what I love even more is getting great deals on awesome clothes, and Peter Field is the perfect partner in crime!
If you go shopping at all, I bet you’ve had moments when you see some great pieces on a very steep sale because there’s something slightly weird about them /​the store has run out of most sizes, or there are times when you see something that would be otherwise perfect IF ONLY it was slightly different. I used to pass up on these things, until I discovered Peter Field. They are capable of SO MANY THINGS to make your wishes come true, and they always do it impeccably.
Thanks to PF, now I can pick up a pair of normally $ 200 pair of jeans for $ 40 knowing that I can get them altered for $ 25, and be super smug about how much money I just saved while getting a pair of jeans that will now fit perfectly. There’s also this time when I fell in love with a blazer but hated how the cuffs were — no matter, Ben helped me transform the blazer into a ¾ sleeve one and now I have a perfect summer suit jacket sans those horrid cuffs. The best time was when I picked up a $ 2000+ Prada dress for $ 300 as the chest was way too small for most ladies to fit into (cough cough the stereotype of the high fashion preferring women with no secondary sex features) and Sage helped me let out that dress for a very reasonable fee. At first I was a little concerned as the dress is made of a very delicate satin, but when I got the dress back I couldn’t have been happier.

Looking back on the last 10 years I’ve spent in Corporate America I think about the great mentors I’ve had, the intricacies of office politics I’ve navigated and the INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF MONEY I’VE WASTED ON SUITS.
Looking the part is important, don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t (google Goldman Sachs + Clothes) The inherent challenge; how does a new analyst coming out of school making between 65−85k a year ‘suit-​up’. There’s the custom guys, the KnotStandards, Gentlemen’ Co-​op and Nicholas Josephs and some (not all) make beautiful suits, but to be honest the entry level start at 1000 and are ‘ok’. To fully realize the value of a custom suit you need to get the mid-​tier (at least) and most start at $ 1,600. Lets do the math for the new guys; you need a min of 7 suits @ 1,600 = ~11k and if you are just starting out at 65k a year — almost 17% of your pre-​tax annual income.
Relax; these guys at Peter Field have an alternative approach. Get a suit you like (maybe not love) from Nordstrom Rack, Charles Tyrwhitt, or others — bring it to them and let them (quickly) make it custom. I brought a custom suit I had made at one of the ‘custom’ shops I mentioned above and they brought it back to life and put it back in the rotation. I“m sold — I won’t be going anywhere else to get my alterations done. I’ve even requested that some of my custom suits be altered by Peter Field for any fine-​tuning.
Finally, their space is great — they also make custom pocket squares, ties and scarfs which accentuate the badassness of their alteration prowess.
I still love a custom suit — but never underestimate the value of an awesome tailor.

Got two blazers tailored here: simple, shortening the sleeves. In one case it was really a very nice jacket and they shortened the sleeves from the top (ie picking apart the shoulders and the leaving the cuffs intact), in the other case they took the simpler approach of turning the cuffs. In each case the tailors did lovely work.
Peter Field is not cheap. On the other hand, I paid extra to have one job done express and they just did both while they were at it, only charging me for the first. So you definitely get what you pay for – or, in my case, a bit more than you pay for!

An uncommon request, I had a broken zipper on a tent that I needed fixed last minute and Peter Field was the only one who could do it, glad I choose them, Ben was excellent to deal with and I would definitely choose them for their tailoring services.

We worked with Peter Field on tailoring for suits for my wedding that we bought here in St. Paul. I threw convention aside and asked several guys stand up on my side, and a friend who was officiating. Since these guys were in Chicago, it was easier to work with a tailor near them than to have them all come to the Twin Cities (plus it would have been like herding cats). When I was looking up places, I was immediately drawn to PF (and the Unilocal reviews helped!) Ben and Peter Field completely embraced the idea and totally welcomed us to the shop. It was really cool to learn about the business and you can tell that they not only have savvy business sense, but are just down to earth and easy to hang with. We visited twice and Ben was great at accommodating my travel schedule. Ben was easy to work with and he understood exactly what I was looking for out of the tailoring and delivered.
We also chose to purchase leather valets and pocket squares for all the men in the wedding (10 total). I was just thinking of getting whatever was made in terms of squares for the guys and Ben took it a step further and made custom squares that matched the bow ties for the guys (we had different colors for each side). They turned out great, matched perfectly. Oh! I should mention that Ben also gave the guys Bow Tie 101 which was incredibly nice.
We would totally recommend Peter Field not only for formal tailoring but for anything overall. My (now) husband plans on schlepping a bunch of stuff down the next time we are in Chicago. Thanks so much again!

I will admit, Peter Field is the only tailor I’ve used in Chicago. But when I get exactly what I’m looking for every, why experiment? I have had suits, dress pants, dress shirts, and casual shirts all tailored and each has come out exactly as I wanted. They are very accommodating in scheduling fittings and pick-​ups and can expedite if necessary. Their new space on Franklin is great. More accessible and the space is well decorated.

I can’t imagine a better tailoring experience than at Peter Field. I got my tux tailored here for my wedding and I got compliments the entire night that the tux looked like it was made just for me. They did such a great job I came back to get a suit tailored, and I know I’ll keep coming for anything else I need tailored in the future. Their prices are not unreasonable either.
I also bought pocket squares from Peter Field for my wedding party, and Ben pointed me to a great embroidery shop in Bucktown to do the embroidery, which turned out beautifully.
On top of all this, the service is excellent — not only are Ben and the tailoring team good at what they do, but they are fun to talk to, remember what’s been going on in my life, and overall awesome at forming relationships.

Amazing service and amazing work! I couldn’t be happier with the job they did. I needed a suit pants tailored in a hurry for a wedding and they were more than happy to help me. They scheduled an appointment for me on the evening that I called, they are open until 9pm which was handy! I actually ran a little late and no point did I feel rushed by Ben. I think it was Ben, I’m terrible with names!
There’s two huge fitting rooms when you walk into the «main room» I guess. Ben walked me through what I wanted done with the pants and made a few suggestions himself which I was more than happy to go along with. He’s the expert after all! That was on Monday and I got a call early Friday morning to organize a time to come in and pick up my stuff.
They showed me around their offices and introduced me to a few of the people that were working there. You can tell they’re just nice people and everyone that works there enjoys being there and loves what they do. They did a great job on the pants and i actually ended up buying one of their bow ties and a pocket square for the wedding!
I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else for any alterations on my clothes from now on.

I took in a men’s off-​the-​rack suit to be altered. I am a novice when it comes to tailoring. Ben explained what alterations needed to be made without sugar-​coating anything. As a result, I got a suit that both looked great and felt comfortable. I wore it to a graduation ceremony and received several compliments from people whose opinions I respect.
My alterations were done perfectly and on time. I am thrilled with the fit of the suit.
I wholeheartedly recommend Peter Field. I will be telling my friends about it, and I will take my alterations to Peter Field in the future.

Ben and Nick are fantastic, and the tailors know their stuff! This is what a relationship with a tailor is supposed to be like. I look forward to catching up with everyone and spend more time chatting during a fitting/​alteration than just going to check a box.
As a result of building a relationship with Peter Field, most of my wardrobe is now tailored/​altered, and my personal sense of style has gone to a whole new level.
I also just had a bespoke navy suit made by them and it is exquisite! Easily one of the best pieces of clothing I’ve ever worn, let alone owned! I am proud to be able to support a local business that is made in America, and entirely in Chicago as well!
I will keep coming back until I run out of excuses (which won’t happen), and am incredibly grateful to have an opportunity to support such a great business that has served me so well right where I work & live!

Refreshing experience to be able to visit a tailoring shop that «gets it». Nick and Ben bring young blood to the tailoring game and incorporate a cool blend of old school practice with technology upgrades.

Really wild shop. Has the mix of an old school tailor shop with innovative styles. I purchased a number of the microfiber pocket sqaures and I am having them make me a suit for my wedding as well as custom tie and pocket squares. Quality looks great and they seem to keep you really involved in the process. I worked with Ben and he was incredibly helpful. They also do tailoring which is really convenient.

I walked into Peter Field for the first time over a year ago out of necessity for a good tailor. Since that day I’ve never went elsewhere for an alteration or custom tie/​pocket square. Nick and Ben handled my tailoring and tie/​pocket square for my engagement photos and were spot on with the customer service and quality. Custom ties are a necessity for every man and Peter Field offers the highest quality at an affordable price ($ 55 – 75 tie). They also handled my wedding ties/​pocket squares and knocked it out of the park for the custom design I wanted. As they expand their product line I’ll be there every step of the way.
Do yourself a favor and take those over sized shirts, pants, suit coats etc to Peter Field (they even saved a sweater for me). When you’re in there you can check out the expanding product line.

Sadly, I have to update my once 5 star review and take away a couple of stars. I think that because of their Kickstarter, their customer service has not been up to par. We first started going to Peter Field because we wanted to order a custom bow tie. When asked how early we should order, we were told one month. So we went back over 5 weeks ahead of time and picked out the fabric and colors, and had his neck measured. Sadly, they forgot about us. When we called, they claimed they had sent an email, but they did not. I believe that if you made a mistake, you should own up to it instead of making excuses. Then, in order to get it in time for our wedding, they had to tack on crazy express fees, which made it totally not worth it. So basically, we are left bow tie less with one week to go. Not pleased.
Also, the second suit we had altered does not look as nice. Something is definitely off. For one, the sleeves are way too short. Both Nick and Ben were not there, and we were already feeling so unhappy about our experience that we just left. Before this, our experience had always been 5 stars, but now I can only give 3 at most, which makes me sad because Nick and Ben are genuinely very nice.
