Specialties
One Strange Bird is an art center featuring handmade goods, an art gallery, and art classes for adults and children. We also host kids art summer camps.
We feature art work and fine crafts from local talent and host monthly art exhibitions in our art gallery.
History
Established in 2011.
Chicago’s own boutique of handmade goods with a healthy dose of kitsch was started by artist, painter, and educator Nicole Northway. Graduate of UIC’s MFA program in 2008, Northway is a passionate maker and crafter. Nicole has shown her paintings and sculptures at the Next Art Fair, the Contemporary Art Workshop, Hyde Park, and Thomas McCormick Gallery and has received support form the CAPP grant and the Union League Club. She currently teaches at Columbia College. The store features unique works by Chicago’s best and under-represented crafters and artists. We strive to carry one-one-kind designs you can’t find anywhere else. We support d.i.y. lifestyles, small business, and artists! Come get creative yourself with our affordable art workshops and browse our unique collection while watching some of the goods get made while your shop! There is no other place like this in Chicago, be the first of your friends to be in the know.
