My food was fantastic! I had the club sandwich! My only problem was the fact that I WASRUSHTHEWHOLEENTIRETIME! I received my check when I was still working in the first half ofy sandwich! The girl played with her hair the entire time she sat me down and before I could sit down she asked for my drink order! I live right around the corner from place and have wanted to try place amd this was my first impression! Food was fantastic, service not acceptable!

Never order delivery from here ever! It took over 2 hours to get delivered, the food was(obviously) freezing cold, I ordered 2 sodas and they were placed right on top of the French fries, which were placed in paper bags so they were smooched, soggy, & dripping wet. Food was unappetizing & terrible to say the least. The only good thing I can say about this situation is when I called back a gentlemen that works there, Austin, was extremely helpful and apologetic.

If I could give zero stars I would. Ordered delivery through Grubhub, food finally showed up over two hours later. Eggs weren’t fully cooked and waffle was nasty. I understand it’s tough delivering breakfast but plenty of other restaurants do it very well. Don’t waste your time or money.

The food is ok, when you can catch them open. They have their hours posted but that’s just for show. More than 3 times we got there to find them closed. Good luck in your future endeavors!

I ended up ordering to-go. When I walked in, it was cute décor and the host was nice, but I can’t comment on service. The burger I ordered was much bigger than I thought and I like that you can build the whole thing from scratch. Since I was one of the last customers of the night, they gave me a couple wonuts to go. The flavor was ok, but they were stale since there were made like 14 hours before I tried it. A few minutes in the oven helped, but I want to try them fresh before I can make a full assessment.

Just eh. Food was ok but the environment is so strange it takes away from the food. I’d maybe suggest take out.

Burgers were not up to my expectations. Preformed patties do not, in my opinion, become the basis of a good burger joint. Meat was under seasoned as well. Buns were good as were the waffle fries we had with the burgers. Service was great and we received a free chocolate«wonut» at the end of the meal. That was tasty.

I think the issue this place is experiencing is an identity crisis, likely stemming from being unable to sustain as a breakfast only place(Waffles) and they needed something to bring in some cash during dinner. They only stay open until 8pm(?) which could be hurting them too. I stopped in an ordered take out — based on other reviews I just stuck with the prime burger, but my mistake was getting the 4oz. I thought I was doing myself a service by not over-eating but I didn’t realize the 4oz patty would still be served on the same bready-bun as an 8oz. What resulted was barely tasting the meat or cheese, which is the whole point. I ended up removing half the bun. Waffle fries were good but nothing to really write about. Good amount of food for the price, but nothing that really excited the taste buds which is where the value really is. I would say 2.5 stars really because the service was very friendly — we talked the whole time I waited for my food… but then again, I was the only person there! I might go back and try a wonut(waffle donut) but doubt I’ll be back for a burger.

Weird that the reviews are all over the place as my experience was quite good. Went for lunch and the place was about half full. What you realize is it shares space with a breakfast anytime place called Waffles so don’t be a dork like I was standing outside the locked door of On The Bun. Enter thru the Waffles entrance. My bad… We were seated immediately and our server came right to our table with a carafe of water. There are crayons that you can use to write on the table(we didn’t) but I can see it to be a draw(get? draw! — HA!) for people with kids. We ordered the grilled veggie sides which as others have mentioned came out first. They were quite good, a bit oily but still good, with fresh herbs and a nice mix of peppers, mushrooms, onions, carrots and beets I think. Nice! I had the Bison burger with cheddar and my friend the more traditional Prime burger with feta. Mine was done to perfection as Bison if overcooked can get a bit tough. My friend reported his done perfectly as well. Both served on a toasted Brioche bun. Tasty! There are a variety of drinks as well including fancy iced teas and the like. We stuck with the water and regular iced tea but you could probably make a meal out of one of those drinks as I saw someone getting one. Next time… Overall a solid choice in Boystown if you’re looking for a casual burger place with better quality than the area fast food chains. it’s not exactly fancy and I wouldn’t come here on your first date but it’s a nice go-to place if you’re in the mood for a decent burger.

To be honest, I found this place a little meh… I love a good burger and On the Bun touted itself as a gourmet burger establishment, however I found this not to be the case. My burger that I ordered came out quite dry(when I had asked for medium rare) and honestly the flavor was not there. The burger menu itself looks quite promising, but I feel like the execution on the actual burger itself is falling a little short. They also have several different kinds of sauces and things to add on to your burger but honestly I could get something more tasty for less somewhere else. The fries were nothing exciting and overall the atmosphere was one note. I would recommend this place for families looking for something quick and easy, but if you’re wanting a truly incredible burger eating experience I would look elsewhere in Chicago.

I’ve been here about three times now and the food does not disappoint. The first two times, we had Groupons and today we used a Unilocal deal. You get lots of food for cheap! The waygu burger was just OK; save some money and just get the prime burger. And get the goat cheese… everything it’s better with goat cheese. The chipotle sauce is yummy and BBQ sauce does not disappoint. I haven’t tried the pretzel bun yet, but that it’s because the regular bun is do good. The sweet potato fries are delicious and the waffle fries are good too. Pass on the mac and cheese. BYOB is always a plus. Also fries are now includes with all burgers.

Disappointed. We wanted to try this place for a few weeks. We were seated right away as it was early dinner time. There were only 2 other tables with customers in the place. The service was really slow. It took us looking around for service and making eye contact with the staff to get someone to come over. When she did, I’m sure she was training someone to be a server. Our sides came out first which was kinda weird. When our burgers came out, the topping on both were wrong. Once they fixed it, no one came to check on us until it was time to drop the check. I’m not actually sure who our server was: the cashier dude, the woman or the guy that was being trained. So long story short, ok food, subpar service. With places like DMK and Fattys in the same area, that have great food and service, you have to be on your game to keep customers.

Well done. No, not in the congratulatory sense. Nope, I mean in the cardinal sin of burgerdom sense. I ordered the 8oz wagyu steak burger topped with bacon and an egg along with waffle cut fries. The toppings and fries saved the meal. Needless to say, I won’t be headed back. Remember — Thou shall not serve well done wagyu.

If you haven’t been to On The Bun yet you need to do yourself a favor and go and have a burger from this place. On The Bun shares a space with Waffles, and it’s a lovely, warm and comfortable feeling type of place. They have great little tables set up with colored chalk in a glass so you can deface their tables if you are so inclined. I, however, was not inclined, maybe next time! Honestly, I have to say this was one of the Best Burgers I have ever had! And, you have your choice of either a 4oz or 8oz burger. You also have choices regarding meat, Prime, Bison, Turkey, even a Black Bean Burger. And a choice of buns as well, but, I would definitely go with the pretzel bun/roll… You can add on additions such as Cheese, Bacon, Onion Strings, or Eggs. Regarding Sides, The Sweet Potato Fries were the Best Tasting I had ever had, perfect taste, perfectly crispy! And, I was given a small cup of this Phenominal Chipotle Sauce to add on to my burger by Alex, I’m pretty sure Alex is the guy in charge at On The Bun and he took such great care of me. So, for the record, I will not be Thanking Groupon for this deal today, however, I will be Thanking Unilocal because this was a great little Unilocal Deal! I paid $ 10.00 for $ 20.00 worth of food at On The Bun, pretty sweet! So, to Unilocal,Thank You so glad I purchased this deal from you. I may turn into a Groupon Traitor if you keep this up.:) Seriously, I know the burger wars are on in Chicago, but if you haven’t been to On The Bun you are really missing out! And missing out on On the Bun would be a loss. One of the Best Burger Places Around, And a really nice guy named Alex. A winning combination if you ask me.:)

«On the Bun» shares space with the adjacent«Waffles» restaurant(including the same tiny grill). The new addition is a counter area where you can order burgers. It’s definitely got an almost hole-in-the-wall feel to the place but it’s still a hell of a good burger. I had the 8 oz Wagyu Burger with Cheddar, Fried Egg and Bacon. For you bacon lovers, they put a generous five or six slices of thick crispy bacon on my burger — it’s the most bacon I’ve ever had on a burger and it was delicious. You will pay about $ 10 – 11 plus tax for a half pound burger but you’ll save a couple bucks with a 4 oz burger. FWIW, I only managed to eat half of my monstrously large 8 oz burger anyhow(but the second half made a tasty snack that night). The smokey ketchup is a nice addition… it has an almost sweet BBQ sauce flavor to it. For sides, the fries were average but still perfectly fine and I’ve had much better mac and cheese(I’d skip the mac here). I did like that they had a quality unsweetened ice tea that actually tasted like tea.

Delicious! GLUTENFREEBUNS, y’all! Large sides of fries and roasted veggies too. I couldn’t even finish them. The place is tiny, but super cute and staff is extremely friendly. I most definitely will go back.

I got a great, greasy burger here. Really satisfying(and I’d been wanting a decent burger since my lunchtime quest failed up on Belmont)! I also love that roasted tomato spread… which is sort of like a gourmet(but rustic) ketchup(which isn’t completely pureed). The sweet potato fries blew the top of my head off! Yummy for my tummy!!! I was also pleased to find Billy working. I’d seen him in action at On The Bun’s adjoining café earlier. It was fun to watch him bounce around tables, darting to and from the kitchen, handling delivery people. He’s like the conductor of a symphony! Such a friendly and caring young man. I noticed another table had brought in their own beer… so it’s good to know this place is b.y.o.b. When I told my brother about what an exceptional experience I had here, he was like, «you should’ve asked me… I could’ve told you it’s my favorite weekend haunt»… LOL Touché, baby brother, touché.

Who notices a hamburger bun? Well, you do when it’s this tasty! At On the Bun, I tasted both the regular bun and the pretzel bun and found them delicious and the right texture. Burgers are fresh, flavorful and juicy. The smoky ketchup is a really nice touch. Great, and varied, options for the burgers — type of meat, garnishes, cheeses and of course, bacon. Waffle fries are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Friendly, warm, quick service. Great pricing, too. I’ll be back.

On the bun offers amazing options including my fave, chicken/veal burger. The quinoa and black bean burger are great alternatives if you’re not in the mood for meat. The black bean burger was like having a party in my mouth! Also, try out their sausages… so juicy and has great flavors. My new favorite burger joint!

Walking down Broadway and in the mood for a hamburger, we discovered a new restaurant called On the Bun. To our surprise it was opening night so we were treated samples of all their burgers along with the full sized version of prime burger(the one I ordered). The Prime was juicy and cooked perfectly to order and it came with tomato spread that added a unique flavor. The other burgers were just as good as the prime. My girlfriend who tries to limit her intake of red meat went crazy over their alternative options. She ordered their Quinoa burger on a gluten free bun. After saying it was the best vegi burger she’s had, i was convinced to try a bite and honestly it was really good. Give this place a shot if you are looking for a new hamburger joint, they have a burger that will satisfy any taste
