Omar Rugs & Floors

Not the stereo-​typical «Rug Salesman» experience: My husband and I … (oops sounds like the Queen of England!) came across Omar’s in Lakeview while contemplating a rug — from a different store –for our Living Room. This re-​do was a gift to ourselves after 20 years of hand me down furniture… We have almost completed all the upholstery and had our fabric swatches in hand. We had each done some homework on Oriental Rugs and while not expert we felt informed. The very charming owner and his colleague, Mohammed, flipped rug after rug for us as we uhmmed and aahed looking back and forth from rug to samples thrown into the mix. We already had a selection in mind and were fairly happy, but something about the rugs at Omar’s … they surpassed the quality of the other one by far and the prices were inline — if not more reasonable, especially taking into account the quality. Made in Iran and Afghanistan mostly vs. China, the hand-​feel was soft, more knots per square inch. etc.
Not only did we love the one-​of-​a-​kind rug we selected for the LR, we also picked up a runner for our upstairs hallway, and another area rug for our entry hall. All unique. Omar’s gave us a great price for these and threw in 2 free rug pads cut to size. We still have an option to change out any rugs if we decide they are not «right» over the next few days. Overall a happy experience with no sales pressure.

My family was looking for a nice rug to go in our living room. We didn’t want something run-​of-​the-​mill and ordinary, like something you might find at Target. While in the city, we came upon this place. The owner was very helpful and friendly and really did his best to make sure we were satisfied with our selection. That’s more than you can say for a lot of department-​like businesses that only want to deal with you when you are actually ready to buy something. We looked at rugs at other stores but the selection didn’t compare to the ones at Omar’s Rugs. The prices were good and the rug is sooo comfortable! Seriously. I could lay on it forever. The design is beautiful and feels one of a kind. Now that I have my own place, I think I’ll have to stop there to check some more rugs out, as well as their other flooring options. It may be a little far for me to travel (I live in the Northwestern ‘burbs) but it’s well worth the trip, especially since the combo of quality material and good customer service is hard to come by.

I read that some people had issues with the customer service but we had an excellent experience! They were friendly and very patient with us when we changed our mind about 30 times, left, came back the next day, changed our mind a lot more and then actually borrowed the rug to see how it looked before we bought it. They also gave us a GREAT DEAL on the price and stayed open late so I could run over there from work to work out the detail later that week.
Additionally, the owner is a wealth of information about these carpets! Ask him questions! You’ll learn a lot that will help inform your purchase.

I called Omar to set up a pick up time. He didn’t answer, so I left a message. Rather than call me back he e-​mailed me the next day and told me to call him again. I went in to the store that day only to find that the rug I was going to purchase wasn’t there. I told Omar I could not come back that afternoon (as I work full time and cannot randomly leave to purchase rugs at 3pm) but I said that I would be back the next day. I e-​mailed Omar to let him know that I would be arriving at noon the next day (my lunch hour) to buy and pick up the rug. He e-​mailed back saying that was fine, he would see me tomorrow. The next morning (2 hours before I was to pick up MY rug) Omar text messages me to tell me ‘sorry, sold the rug’. Apparently this store does not honor its appointments nor care about its customers. At least all of my coworkers/​friends will not have to go through a similar experience as they all agreed this was low and they would not do business with this man. What a joke.
