History

Established in 2014.

O’Brien & Murphy-​Aguilú Law Group was created by two friends and cousins who shared a simple but comprehensive goal: provide aggressive legal expertise for clients in trouble — anytime, anywhere. With that goal in mind, two former prosecutors with a passion for trial work established a different kind of law firm.

Sean O’Brien and James Murphy-​Aguilú both began their careers in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. As former prosecutors they possess a unique ability to see the strengths and weaknesses of a case from all angles.

Sean M. O’Brien concentrates his practice in felony criminal litigation, specializing in complex narcotics, search and seizure law, and traffic cases. In 2013 and 2014 a, Mr. O’Brien was awarded a «Rising Star» designation in the Illinois Super Lawyers publication.

Mr. O’Brien has extensive experience trying cases in courtrooms throughout Chicago and Illinois in both state and federal courts. Prior to forming O’Brien & Murphy-​Aguilú, Mr. O’Brien defended criminal matters ranging from traffic cases to murder charges.

For the first portion of his career, Mr. O’Brien served as a prosecutor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office where he gained significant experience trying motions and trials for complex narcotics cases as a Special Prosecutor in the Narcotics Bureau.

Mr. O’Brien has tried hundreds of bench trials, jury trials, and motions. He is an expert in narcotics, search and seizure law, traffic, appeals, forfeiture cases, and expungements.
