There Italian beef is so good, the owner is nice and the place is always clean and stocked up, they have A variety of Italian cookies they are so good. Check out this place you won’t be disappointed!

I always go here got the frozen spaghetti sauce. We call it Momma Nattoli gravy, because I’m sure there must be an old grandma in the back over a huge pot making this stuff with a recepie hand carried from the ol country. It is in the freezer on the left by the deli counter.
I get fresh pasta from Pasta Fresh a mile south of here and combine the two and claim it as my own homemade spaghetti. I did this on Christmas and everyone ooohhed and aaahhhed about what a good cook I am.
The sub sandwiches are good and the breads are fresh from DiMattos.
The meatballs are wonderful and oh ya take the cannoli.

They have a great selection of ready to go food. Ravioli and lasagna are both first rate. All the subs are great and the value can’t be beat.

The best Italian Sausage in Chicago — They have a few different varieties and they are all good. Our favorite is the Garlic and Fennel. Great off the grill in sauce or in Lasagna. Great other specialty items to choose from as well. always friendly and helpful. Go and try it.

Probably the best beef that I have eaten. Freshly cut and dip in that great cause. People there are great also. Go and get a beef there please

Be going for there for years keeps getting better. Try the Breaded Steak sandwich !!! Awesome ! Panini ‘s are outstanding as well as all of the subs. Awesome Italian sausage as well.

I just catered from Nottoli for my son’s graduation party. The food and service we’re outstanding! Everybody raved about the Italian sausage and chicken parmigiana. Not to mention that we went through three trays of subs and could have easily went through three more! They were a huge hit with the teenagers! Thanks Nottoli!

The BEST Italian Sausage ever!

This perfect throw-​back Italian deli was a pleasant surprise! Located on the east side of Harlem Avenue it reminded me of a well-​known Italian deli that I went to in NYC several years ago. This place looks like a deli from a movie that’s set in a New York deli (Note to Self: Work on Screenplay). It has been in this location for over 30 years. I ordered the Italian sub and it was loaded with fresh meats — a mix of cured meats with provolone cheese, Iceberg lettuce finely shredded, slices of tomatoes, and an oil-​vinegar dressing. The inclusion of a sneaky, but assertive pepper jam is what won me over. It is the quintessential classic Italian sub sandwich. Is there any better way to prepare this delectable sandwich? I think not!
The sub here hits every element of a classic Italian combo. It’s a well-​balanced sandwich and not too heavy despite its ample stuffing. The bread held up nicely with the amalgamation of over-​stuffed fillings and a sweet brine that decked out every flavor. The exterior of the bread was crispy and the interior was fluffy light. The bread is from D’Amato’s Bakery, and the freshness and quality was very obvious to my palette.
There were cured meats hanging in front of the deli counter (if you are tall be careful not to bump your head). They make their own gravy (Americans call this «sauce») from scratch as well as lasagna, mostaccioli and cannoli. They sell authentic Italians products and have a variety of cheeses on hand. This is a mom and pop operation. It is narrow and small but well compact with loads of products. They also have a parking lot. Be careful not to hit the mother sucker huge pot hole upon entering or exiting the parking lot. Service was hospitable but not overly effusive. The deli and grocery store are well maintained and clean.
I stumbled upon this joint on March 11, as I had an appointment in the area. I was driving north bound on Harlem Ave to hop back onto the Kennedy expressway and head back home when I noticed «Nottoli Italian Foods & Deli» on the east side of Harlem Avenue. Now, I have been to Bari Deli & Grocery and also Tony’s Deli on Northwest Highway over 25 times. I am a sub sandwich snob, so I had to give Nottoli’s a shot. It was an unexpected, spontaneous find! I can honestly say that the Italian sub sandwich here stands up to the delectable sub sandwiches at Bari (on W Grand Ave). I do not often drive out-​of-​the way for a deli, but this is one joint where I would return. I’d like to try their meatball, Italian beef and Italian sausage sub sandwiches.
My 6-​inch Italian sub was $ 5.99 and the double Italian bread was $ 2.69. I was in and out in under 5-​minutes. Bada-​bing, bada-​boom-​boom! (P.S. You have to spend $ 10 or above to use your Debit card. However, it really depends on WHO is working the front register. If it is the «old» lady or «old» man walk away and go elsewhere. I stopped here on April 4, 2015. I ended up leaving the sub sandwich on the counter and walking away because she said I had to spend $ 10 or more. I saw NO SIGN that mentioned this in the store). Not cool. I will definitely not be returning. Ever. Period.

I went there just before the lunch rush to pick up a sub. The lady took my order and went to make my sub. As I was walking around and looking for a side dish I heard a clickin sound that I knew was the sound of a finger nail clipper. Sure enough I look behind the deli counter and it was an employee cutting his nails standind right behind the lady making my sub. I ran out of there as soon as I could. I called to talk to someone there and they apologized but they had to add that he wasn’t cutting his nails next to her.

You are almost overwhelmed by the wonderful smell of food and tradition as you enter this island of Italian food. It’s almost like one travels back in time to the days when small, mom and pop, stores like this were prevalent neighborhood, family food markets.
They had quite a selection of Italian sandwiches on the menu and countless selections of meat, salads, cheese and olives in the deli case. Not to mention the variety of frozen pastas and meals ready to eat in the frozen case. A selection of Italian food staples is also available to purchase, from sauces, pastas, olive oil and on and on.
To say that everything was fresh and freshly made goes without saying. They also have the old school Italian pizza cut into rectangles, something I haven’t seen in years.
These places are hidden gem. Shop Local! Screw Jimmy John’s, Subway and the like and give this place a try for a better quality, better tasting, fresher, yet cheaper and better for you sandwich and food.

Best place to buy a sub in Chicago hands down. Perfect every time without flaw. They have «pepper spread» which is basically just blended up giardiniera, great to put on a sub or anything really.

Meatballs, and sausage for home. Italian beef, and sub for sharing on-​site. Great food and old school feel make this a wonderful unplanned stop.

Nottoli Foods is just one of those places that you would have to be told about. Almost offensive to say, but this is a truly «authentic» Italian market that probably does 95% of its business to local residents who have always shopped there in search of the best Italian meats, cheeses, olives, and breads. It hasn’t been polished to cater to trust fund wannabe food bloggers whose «of the people» claim is High Life consumption. For this reason, the prices are staggering.
The deli portion of the store is at the rear, while the center store consists of three aisles of pastas, spices, breads, and a few sauces (I assume for the folks who don’t make their own). Fresh pastries/​cookies are located right at the counter. The front of Nottoli’s has two small high-​top tables for on-​premise consumption of sandwiches from the back.
A co-​worker and I (she was the one who knew of Nottoli) stopped there on the way back to O’Hare. Two huge sandwiches, two drinks, chips, a side of marinated artichoke hearts, and a side of rainbow tortellini set us back $ 20. Not apiece. A single Jackson. My co-​worker originally wanted to stop there because she always picks up some things to carry back to her home for herself and friends. This time, she picked up a lifetime supply of apple-​sized olives for about $ 15.
If you are flying out of O’Hare and want a decent place to grab a bite, this place is also blessed with great parking. It’s approximately 15 minutes east of the airport, making it a convenient stop from downtown. Pull your generic rental sled into the parking lot off of Harlem and bring an appetite.

Nottoli’s is our go to when we can’t decide what sounds good to eat. The subs are great, and we have tried nearly all of them. The sausage is delicious also.
We bring all of our out of town guests to try it out and they always comment on how good the food is. Staff is friendly and location is convenient with the parking next to the deli.

STUCK IN TIME COPYCATS
Old school is a good thing; stuck in time is not. The décor in this small grocery store/​deli is old-​fashioned and kinda dirty. Not really dirty, but like if you ran your fingers across the top of the counters you know your finger would pick up a layer of dust. Plus, some of their salads (in the deli case) look dried out, i.e., old.
Their lunch meat is definitely quality and very well-​priced. Their fresh cheese selection is stellar. They have a hot bar as well as Italian homemade food in the frozen section. Most of that is good, but sometimes it’s bland. Their cannolis are nothing to sing about.
The store reminds me of the kind I grew up with around the Grand/​Austin area. I have a lot of nostalgia and warm memories of those places. But I feel that Nottoli needs to join the rest of the 21^st Century and update their place and they NEED to create more tasty hot bar items and create something different and not simply copy other Italian grocers in the area.

I love you Italian beef… but Nottoli’s, I’m mad at you. I’m not supposed to eat beef, and there you go making a smoking good beef I can’t resist. Worth noting, I’ve never had one of these beefs fresh!
My coworker brings me one, and I get to it later that night, or the next day. With that being said, the thing is still off the hook. Sorry beef, not meaning to refer to you as a «thing»… That was out of line.
But I still dream of having a fresh one… with the dream ending in a cold sweat because the beef was laced with a hot Italian sausage. Good grief. Or should I say beef.

you just cant beat nottoli. Either location, harlem or belmont. just deliciousness. My GO TO spot for italian saseech, it is the best around! great subs, buy their sauce and homemade meatballs when making a quick meal. Love everything about this store. Family owned and operated, they are very nice and accomodating. They also do catering and the food is pretty damn good!

Sandwiches were good but the place is FILTHY and the employees are extremely UN friendly. I will not be going back.
While waiting an extremely long time for 3 sandwiches, I was looking around… and shouldn’t have… I don’t think this place has EVER been cleaned. It’s very tiny, very old, and everything is dingy and run down. The cold case had tons of condensation on the doors and was not cold at all. All the corners, nooks, and crannies of the store had piles of crud and dirt. Thankfully I didn’t see any bugs or I would have been outta there. Under the meat slicer was piles of dried up food crumbles that had obviously been there a long time. I saw them making the sandwiches in back but I was really afraid to watch them handle my food.
They don’t carry many dry/​canned items here, and what they do have is basically anything you can get at a produce center like A&G or Tony’s. It’s overpriced too.
That being said, the Italian sub sandwiches were very good. However the sausage sandwich had no sauce. Just a dried up piece of sausage with a half melted slice of provolone on a piece of italian bread.
They also make homemade cannolis that are delicious, but maybe not so fresh! Another bonus was little packets of saffron at the register for a reasonable price.
I’m not sure what’s up with this place. It used to be alot better.

nottoli is the new mistress in my life
grabbed a 5 dollar ital sub last week on my lunchbreak and bit into heaven… i dont eat meat often so when i do… if i say its good… u know its damn good… perfect amount of dressing splashed on (other half lasted til lunch the next afternoon with zero sogginess!!!)
not really a gripe here but a bit of a nuisance if u have limited time… u order sammies from the deli counter so u may have to wait in line for a bit
they take credit w/​a $ 10 min but really thats not an issue cause with all the other awesome imported goods in here ur golden
*only gripe was on the focaccia… must have been sittin in the store for a while cause a day after i took it home it grew some mold :(
