New Vision of Hope Foundation – NVHF

One of those few precious thrifts left on this earth that have a flat rate price for a bag filled with clothes. How can you even try to beat that? Maybe a cardboard box filled with castoffs from Mad Men’s wardrobe department could, but outside that, I don’t think so.
Outside that, the basement is filled with tempting furniture, and the staff are friendlier than friendly. I’m almost a little happy I didn’t take the place I’d looked at just down the street or else I’d be in big big trouble.

For those of you who thrift on a regular basis you know that once a store gets found by the pillagers your ‘finds’ go away… I am offering this one to those of you who seriously thrift and want some real deals.
By ‘real deals’ I mean that as an ongoing special they have a $ 10/​bag sale. Whatever you can fit into a grocery bag, standard size, you get for 10 bucks! It is only for clothes priced under $ 8. But, they let you cram as much as humanly possible and sometimes let it overflow! They also have a special for $ 20/​bag for clothes over $ 8 but nothing is really over $ 8 unless you are looking for formal wear or suits. Sometimes they have designer clothes that are over that but either way it you get a deal!
The shoe selection is pretty amazing for a small store. I have found Sergio Rossi, Bruno Magli, Nine West… My favorite find was a pair of 1980’s YSL satin platforms that were scuffed for $ 1! (I brought them back to life with some shoe polish…)
This is some sort of charitable foundation that helps women and they seem to be AIDS activists as they have free condoms at the register (they say only take 3 at a time but if you need more they are ok with that…) Interestingly enough, they also have a couple dresses that 2 local designers made out of condoms… those, unfortunately, are NOT for sale. Don’t ask.
The women who work here are nice and helpful, they seem to be truly happy to be working there! Brenda is my girl, she knows what I like and always shows me the new ‘vintage’ items that have come in.
The space is a little hard to find if you don’t know where to look, find parking on Cermak and look for the sign in the window that says ‘$ 10 bag sale’. Go crazy, I have given you one of my ‘go to’ spots.
