UPDATE: It’s now called the Commonwealth and as I stated in the first review, it might as well be a Chili’s.

Very disheartening this place is gone. Definitely won’t be going to the new Common Wealth, the pretentious yups can have it. Enjoy your pastries, coffee, and minimalist menu, I’ll enjoy the nostalgic memories.

Great bar! Good prices and if you like playing darts, it is the best in the city for that. Great beer selection.

mulligans is as clean as it can be given its often crowded nature… its as cold as an icebox inside and the drinks are average price

So, Unilocal says this is a dive bar? It isn’t really. It’s a neighborhood bar that skews heavily towards sports. It is in no way fancy or trendy, but it isn’t a dive either.
The best parts about Mulligans are that the bartenders are very friendly, the prices are low, there are a ton of TVs to watch any game (if what you want isn’t on one, just ask and they’ll fix that), there are dart boards to play for free, and you can order in food from anywhere you’d like. And the tamale guy stops by around 9pm.
We liked this bar so much we formed a dart team with friends a few years ago, and Mulligans offered to sponsor us. We aren’t very good, but we have a great time there. Now, this might not sound like a huge deal, but when the team started most of us lived in Logan Square– which isn’t exactly close to Roscoe Village. And we all now live further away than we did then. But we still play out of Mulligans because we love it.
Mulligans is also our go-​to for watching sporting events in bars. I am not that into sports, but I’ll tag along with friends and my husband when they feel like it. No matter how packed it seems to be, there’s always a table or two available. And the crowd is often really into «the game» (whatever it may be) without being annoying, overly zealous or douche-​y.

Nice casual local joint for a drink. Stopped by after the Roscoe Village burger fest. Bartenders were on top of the healthy crowd. They let people order pizza which is awesome. Drinks decently priced. Oh, and lots of Jameson to go around :)
Seems like this is the place to go if you like darts. If I’m back in the area I’d come back.

Playing darts with my boyfriend and his friends was fun here. After we ate across the street at Lakeview we played a game here and I hit a bullseye so this place is a little unforgettable. We kept to ourselves and no one else was really there except later a few other fellows wanted us to join them in a dart competition later the next week.

My go to place for a pint of Guinness and game of free darts.
Points for never really being crowded– at least not with annoying people. Lots of tvs for sports watching, though don’t expect brand new shiny fancypants tvs.
Points for allowing me to go order a pizza at Robey and bring it in.
Points for free darts, even though some of the boards and darts need repair. Free is free, janky or not.
Points for a good pour of Guinness at a reasonable price.
Points for all the bottles of Jameson that line the walls and the old men sitting at the bar who have probably helped decorate the place.

Okay, I’ll admit it — it was us. We were the ones who over-​rode the TV sound system by putting a $ 1 into the juke box and quickly selecting «That’s Not My Name» before scurrying back to our seats. Yes, I recognize that not one of the regulars parked on bar stools watching the game wanted anything to do with The Ting Tings and were, in fact, rather horrified to miss 3.5 minutes of the game to be forced to listen to such a racket.
I hope we’re forgiven. Because we’re going back.
Mulligans is one of my favorite spots to bring out of towners and in-​towners. There’s nothing overly impressive about it; not the ambiance, not the lighting, not the charm, not the drinks. But they’ve got dart boards. Oh yes, you’ve heard allll about the dart boards by now. But they’re well maintained, they’re actual CORK, they’ve got decent darts they’ll lend you, and I’ve never had a problem getting a board. The place is unpretentious and the bartenders friendly enough. The only downside is the music — it doesn’t play unless someone feeds the juke box mooolah and depending on what game is on, you can turn into a pariah rather quickly if you make that mistake and override the TV sound at the wrong time. It’s also not a place to bring friends who are easily distracted by sports, as the walls above the dart boards are lined with flat screenTVs.
Besides all that, I do love Mulligans and could while away quite a few evenings here most happily. You’ve been warned.

I like this place. Certainly not fancy, but not scummy either. Just a good place to grab a drink and hang out with friends.
I like that they have real dart boards and all the bottle of Jameson that they’ve ever sold up around the entire bar. It’s little things like that which I enjoy.
My only complaint, instead of giving me a new glass when I got another drink, the bartender refilled my original glass numerous times. Yucky.

Mulligan’s is a pretty solid local bar. Any place that has real darts (lots of boards and free of course!), solid drink specials, and a good jukebox scores major points in my book. It’s very much a neighborhood bar and makes a great place to catch a game or feed the jukebox dollars for do-​it-​yourself karaōke. The barkeeps are very personable and make you feel like a regular. I’ll be back, that’s for sure.

Someone wrote a review of Mulligans that dared me to leave sober. I took that bet. And after arriving slightly tipsy, left after one beer, more sober than I had arrived.
It was full of staggeringly drunk people (at like 9pm, on a Wednesday), where Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift were playing on repeat. I’m from the country. That’s why I moved to the city. The décor was pretty cool and the bartender was nice, if distracted.

This place was pretty cool. I walked in and wasn’t bombarded by music and saw some regulars sitting by the bar. The backroom is filled with dart boards with manual score boards. I’m not dart savy enough to keep my own score, though.
As we left the bar, we noticed a huge splatter of puke right outside. Looked like somebody had too much fun. There was a dude standing right in it smoking away and when we pointed out the puke to the rest of our group, the dude suddenly noticed what he was standing in.

No, this place is not where you go if you’re scouring the city for your next girlfriend/​boyfriend.
Mulligan’s is the place you go if you want cheap, delish alcohol (four words — three. dollar. Jameson. shots), and it’s the place you frequent if you don’t want to be crammed up against a bunch of sweaty, groping 22 year olds.
Lots o’ dart boards if you’re into that also — and the flow of Irish beer is certainly nothing to scoff at.
Mulligan’s is a great place to chill, where you can end the night with a pleasant, and quality alcohol-​induced, buzz.

Mulligan’s reminds me of a mancave, there are chairs, lots of TVs to look at, a hell of a lot of dartboards (7), and plenty of beer and spirits to drink from. There is a row of bottles upon bottles of Jameson lining up the walls, and there were once over 1,000 bottles sitting around somewhere I heard someone tell me once. Women are scarce in this Roscoe Village pub, but I don’t go there trying to meet girls.
Being one of the best dart bars in the city, Mulligan’s sells darts, dart supplies, and sponsors several leagues for darts. There is a locker for their players’ dart and you can usually find a decent challenge on the boards. During league seasons you will have a rough time trying to find place to play a game, the dart area is packed with people throwing and watching games.
I went here last night with 5 members of my dart team and taught a friend to fire off some darts while I practiced shooting right handed. I do not know what was more impressive: my friend learning to shoot decently in such a short period of time or that I really closed out a game of cricket in quick fashion while playing right handed.

Can’t go wrong with Mulligan’s. It’s the perfect example of a neighborhood bar where everyone’s welcome, in a pretension-​free zone… complete with the requisite regulars who are more than ready to chat up customers for hours and super friendly staff.
The TVs are plentiful, but unobtrusive… not taking over the bar, but providing you the opportunity to watch one of any number of college or professional games on.
And of course, no review of Mulligan’s could be complete without mentioning the free darts! 2 boards up front, with another 6 in the back make this a great spot to go for a night darts, or in my case, attempting to play darts and instead constantly hit the wall, making a ton of noise and feeling completely humiliated – yet ready to play again!

I love this bar.
Free darts, reasonable drink prices, friendly bartenders. It doesn’t get very crowded, so I can count on this place on a Friday or Saturday night.
There’s no food, but you can order in: Robey Pizza is across the street.

If there’s an underground, illegal darts scene in Chicago akin to the «The Fast And The Furious» (but with boards instead of cars), this would probably be its epicenter.
This really isn’t even a bar but a dart’s alley (if there were such a thing) with beer. There are two popular darts leagues here on Monday and Tuesday nights and the bar and its patrons take their darts very seriously every night of the week. People actually bring their own darts to Mulligan’s and practice at other bars to compete there.
It wouldn’t suprise me if there were darts sharks lurking around the bar waiting to take the money of darts fishes who were big stuff at their own crappy dart boards around the city and in their own basements (or their mother’s — though darts is apparently really cool now. Being as I’m not, I had no idea).
This scam is probably especially prevalent about pounding back a few after a rough Cubs loss (the bar’s other speciality; showing Cubs games to die-​hard fans, not Cubs losses) and wandering unsuspectingly into the back where the four dart boards are. But, thankfully, I didn’t find this out first hand. Honest.
There was simply no joy in Mudscoevillageville when I was here for the first time watching the Cubs slowly and categorically get humiliated by the Dodgers on mulitple televisions (so it’s almost unfair to write a review when all the air has been sucked out of a bar). But my friend from Roscoe Village’s birthday coincided with the Cubs playoff elimination so a group of sad, blue clad fans watched in disbelief as this bar’s favorite team struck out. Then played darts.
At least the beer was pretty cheap so we could all drown our sorrows. Bottles of Guinness were $ 4. Most other beers were $ 3. Who knows how much the darts will end up costing though (well, free, unless there’s wagering). Though, again, I don’t know this first hand. Honest.

You gotta love a place that decorates it’s walls with empty bottles of Jameson signed by the poor soul who finished the bottle. Thus is the décor of Mulligan’s Public House.
The down side? Stopped by here the other night to grab a drink with friends and I got exactly that. One drink. Why? Because they start closing down the place around 1:15am by literally taking the stools that you are sitting on and putting them atop the tables. Didn’t care for that so much although the guy did tell me I could finish my drink at the bar. Gee. .. .thanks.
Service was good up until that point, though, and if you like darts the entire back room is all about playing some serious darts with about a half a dozen dart boards along the wall.
Go for a shot and a beer and to connect up with friends at this neighborhood hangout. Just go early enough or you may be unceremoniously dumped off your stool mid sentence as they try to close up the place around you!
