:-(A great local diner is no more. Mr. K’s has closed and is now for sale.

R.I.P. Mr K’s This great Restaurant shut down on 8÷16÷09. It came as a huge shock to me and especially to my mom because she worked there and now she is out of a job now.

it gets harder and harder to find places that can do the staple diner breakfast with a time-worn expertise, and Mr. K’s held the torch high and bright. I’m not a local, don’t know what the K stands for… but it must be «killing me with these homefries»! I love a place where you can see the fork and knife marks of eager diners before you lovingly etched into veneer of the plates. Everything was spot on, from the waitress touching up my coffee as if by phantom radar to the toast having a hint of the grill’s taste to the eggs being exactly over medium like I asked for… every community should have a spot like Mr. K’s to be a voice of reason in a landscape that is all box-chain shouting.

Mr. K’s is a great neighborhood establishment. The food is excellent, the waitstaff is friendly, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better value for your money. Their omelettes are out of this world. Le Petit, which is french toast with strawberries and whipped cream is a delight. They have some of the best diner breakfast food in the city. Even during the Sunday church rush, you’ll be seated quickly. Good coffee, surprisingly.

consistent, clean, friendly staff. it seems like theres always just enough room for you. no matter how crowded. service is good, so i think it keeps the turn around time quick. great coffee. omelettes are awesome, hash browns are always made the way you like them. good juice. comfy feel. older place, has not been redone since i was kid(15+ yr). my boyfriend always orders pancakes and is always happy, except they water down their syrup, it could be thicker. we eat for about 15 bucks everytime.

Haven’t been here in a few years, used to frequent the place instead of 5th through 7th periods in high school. I’ve been back late night after a couple of gigs but it’s been at least 12 years. Back in the day, almost everything breakfast I got here was really good, from pancakes to ham and cheese omelette’s. They have the good«real» sausage links, bacon is nice and crispy, heck, even the steak and eggs were good. The wait staff was really nice to a group of kids that obviously wasn’t supposed to be there. This is the breakfast place I would go to if I ever got a chance to eat out for breakfast. Writing this really puts me in the mood to make a pilgrimage back here.

Typical Chicago style diner. A bit cheaper than Sally’s across the street, without too much of a drop in quality. Staff is friendly, and there’s plenty of parking.

Mr. K’s… good simple food, like when you were growing up. The sign brings back such nostalgic memories of when people cared about customer service. I looked around and I see the faces of regualrs. We ordered what I like to call a sampler… strawberry pancakes, one egg(but you really get 2) with hashbrowns that taste like REAL potatoes(tho I havent confirmed that) sausage links cooked all the way thru and tasty. Not that«meat» that leaves a gaggy film in the back of your throat, the skirt steak and eggs, oj, coffee. Our waitress was a real sweetheart and food was served quickly and yummiliciously!
