I’ve been coming here since high school… No need to give my age. I always get the #10 which is the grilled chicken on French bread. This place is great for late night eats after clubbing or just hanging out and having the munchies.(no judging) I used to get the Dagwood special back in the day but I cut back on the red meat as I got older. I’m sure you would enjoy it if you like burgers though. Next time you are in the area on a late night stop in and tell them you know me lol. Enjoy!

Mister J’s Dawg and Burgers, State&Pearson St. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. Good Kate night hours if you have the munchies!

When you need something to eat at 3 in the morning following a night of dinner, dancing and three too many drinks this is what you got. Nothing fresh always frozen but you have to do what you have to do and its not like you’re looking for much less expecting anything gourmet anyway, you just need something to soak up this whiskey. I ate a «fish» sandwich from here and my stomach was terribly upset for about 6 hours afterwards. As many of my followers may know, I am a disgusting pig that will literally eat anything and always clean my plate. I threw out most of their bland, soggy, poorly prepared fries after taking about 3 bites of mostly bread and some parts of a mystery frozen fish on a stale bun. wah-wah-wah Major fail

This is a solid middle of the road late night dawg. It wasn’t spectacular and it wasn’t the worst experience. I ordered a #2 vienna and a polish dog. As a late night, after the bar. I’ll take it. However, I have to issues. The tomato & cucumber slices are too thin for my liking. The positive is that they stay open late. Seating is limited. I’ll come back if it’s late and I’m close.

I’ve been coming here for years ever since I moved out to Chicago from California. My father used to drive a taxi and use those come to this place and pick up chicken breast sandwiches. That’s their best sandwich in my opinion and the place is changed hands a few times but they have managed to keep the same consistency on that particular sandwich that’s why I’m very happy

10 or 15 Years ago you used to be able to get a burger, fries and drink for about $ 2.50 and it tasted OK. Today, that same combination is $ 6.39 and it tastes like… well let’s just say it’s no longer OK. I would rather go to McDonald’s than Mr. J’s and that’s not a compliment to McDonald’s.

You know that phrase, «Eat sh*t, Feel like sh*t»? This is the place. Absolutely the worst Chicago greasy spoon I’ve eaten in. To call this place a dive is an insult to other dives. We need a new phrase to describe this hellhole of crappy, unappetizing food. The shakes aren’t real ice cream or even mixed. They’re nothing more than cheap fro-yo mixed into a cup. The gyros meat isn’t sliced off – it’s scrapped off with an electric shaver so the meat looks like it’s chipped. They consider a gyros sandwich a little pile of shredded meat, a few cut up pieces of onion, a sliver of tomato and a dollop of Tzatziki sauce thrown onto a pita. I took a photo to show how bad it was – it tasted even worse. The fries were bland as hell. Nasty, overpriced food and a gritty interior. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place unless you’re desperate.

My burger was overpriced and wasn’t that great and when I asked for a shake, all I got was a milky shake and salty attitude.

Not great. Overpriced for what you get. I had just gotten off the train station that is near here and this was my first meal(unfortunately) in Chicago in about 10 years. I tried the Italian Beef and it was so greasy, I was sick. The taste wasn’t too bad, but the grease was overwhelming. I’ve had many Italian Beef in my days, but nothing like this. The customer service is really what I remember, and in a bad way. I had a few questions and the guy completely ignored it and kept trying to push me along. It wasn’t busy at all, there was only two other people in the restaurant, so it wasn’t like I was holding anyone up. They were unnecessarily rude and I was glad to get out of there.

Best late night and hidden gem in the city! Shhh don’t tell anybody but they have the most delicious grilled chicken sandwich you will ever eat! It’s great during lunch time at noon and great at 3AM when you’re looking for something delicious to have after being out! Their other stuff is good too but the chicken sandwich is something special. Enjoy!

Started to go here regularly from work and not ever disappointed in their food. The gyros or the chicken sandwich are really good! They really need to work on their service and they way they talk to their customers. They come off very ruse when you ask for anything extra like hot peppers or extra sauce on the gyros, i didn’t care of i had to pay more but cut the attitude out.

It’s fine. The hot dog buns don’t have poppy-seeds on them, which is a problem. They’ve always gotten my order right and it is fast. However, it’s always $ 1 or $ 2 more than I want to spend. Not a huge issue normally, but I stopped going here as frequently after I found a cheaper hot dog place a block down. However, props for carrying actual cans of soda.

Honestly speaking, if it’s not 1am, or you don’t need a really quick bite for lunch, I suggest you should just go to Portillo’s, which isn’t that far away. That being said, it’s not«bad» per se. It’s a small greasy-spoon that has dogs and other fried delicacies. And… a terrifyingly dark alley right next door. And a toilet around the corner. Which is nice. Every time I’ve been there, it’s because somewhere else wasn’t open and I needed to eat. Again, not bad. But it’s definitely a «I guess we’ll go here since ___is closed» kinda joint.

You know that food is probably not good when you come in pretty wasted and you still think the food doesn’t taste right. Came in around 1:30 this past Sunday night for some cheap eats to get me home after a night of Blue Tequilas from Blue Agave. But the fries were blah and the mozzarella sticks weren’t good, and I had to actually ask for a side of marinara. You know you are in trouble when! But, one star for being open and one for the fast service… at least I didn’t have to wait long to find out this food is bad.

Duped by Unilocal! Don’t be fooled by the other glowing reviews. These dogs are undercooked and undersized. The cheesesteak is made with gyro meat. There’s a reason why«there will be no line inside». Other than a 1am post drinking hunger fix, I couldn’t imagine going back here on purpose.

Way underrated hot dog. This place was better than weiner s circle and hot dougs. So good it was the best dog I had in Chicago. Unassuming little place and the burgers are awesome as well. I don’t freely give away stars but this place earned them. Try the dawned burger amazing.

Sauerkraut treat. A quick decent meal for under $ 4(perfectly charred polish sausage with sauerkraut n’ everything on it, and a cup of water). Clean organize place. Helpful to the elderly.
