I used to go here all the time. Last few times I had half off coupons and they honored them. Tonight I was told that they don’t want to accept my coupon and that I basically have to leave. Another reason that they didn’t want to serve me it’s because I came with my grandfather who had old clothing on and they were making comments about him. I saw it. Will never step a foot here and I’ll make sure I’ll my friends know about it.

Ordered their famous Moody Blu cheeseburger for delivery on a cold winter day. The cheeseburger was great. The food was delish(though the fries weren’t worth mentioning). My only problem was the delivery guy — called when he arrived to my building(high rise with parking) and said the doorman wouldn’t let him park to deliver my order. I had to come meet him outside to pick it up. Unfortunately for the delivery guy, this was a complete fabrication. Our doorstaff always let delivery drivers park to run up food orders and our security cameras recorded the delivery guy never even getting out of his car to attempt this.

Oh man how I wish this place was still as amazing as it used to be. I wonder if I used to look at it through college-colored glasses, but this place is not nearly as great as it once was. How has it changed? Let me list the ways(ok, there are only really 2): 1. Prices. Not so cheap anymore, and I actually have a job so my perspective of price is waay altered. Pitchers are 10 – 12, so are burgers, sides ain’t cheap either. 2. Burgers. Just… not so good anymore. Never cooked to the temp you want(always overdone for me). From the shape and consistency of the meat, I assume they were frozen, pre-bought patties. The still good: Sangria is still damn good Patio is still very nice The blue cheese they use is mind blowing. Perfectly moist, chunky, and stinky The annoying: Let us get the onion rings as sides! Come on! Upcharge! Instead I just stick with fries cause I don’t want a whole order. As a tip, avoid in winter. Don’t sit inside. Too dark, and all of your clothing will reek of frier afterwards.

Okay they make some good burgers but we all are jaded now a days. To me they always made my stomach full and they got some fries that are good with a beer, trust me. What makes this place great is getting a seat inside when it gets dark outside. You got to have a date, it’s romantic. I mean if you are a greasy burger, beer and fries type of dude… she’s a keeper if she digs the place. This place has always been here and it looks like it will be here for a whole lot longer for a reason. Check out Moody’s, get a burger, get a beer… There is a reason it’s been on TV and all that.

Was very disappointed with Moody’s Pub. Limited menu, bland food, and slow service. The inside is dark, dingy, and dirty. The burgers tasted like frozen patties. It’s only saving grace is the beer garden. Don’t go here to eat but it is a good place to have a few pitchers outside.

MP’s used to have the best burger in the city, but the last 15+ times I came in, the burger was always overcooked to medium or well done even though I asked for medium rare multiple times. The burgers are lacking the flavor and seasoning it used to have and I always have to add salt to the meat. They also raised the price of the burgers to $ 10 and I can enjoy a significantly better burger in several other restaurants in the neighborhood. The service has gotten slower and less attentive. Only advantage they have over other joints is that MP has a very nice beer garden. I am sad that this is no longer my go-to spot.

More like 2.5 stars, wish that were possible:-( The patio is amazing and always something to look forward to or to lament over its passing when you know winter is coming. Beer is good and cheap and food is decent. Where Moody’s lacks is in the service! If it weren’t for the patio or the food and booze than they would be getting 1 stars or less. We waited for almost 10 minutes to get asked for beverage orders. The server arrived right at the moment where we stated if no one comes by now, we are gone. Luckily, she showed up. Then it took another 6 minutes to get two beers. It was a little busy but not packed. Moody’s please hire another server, because the staff you have now can’t handle the slow to medium to capacity. We have now been sitting for 15 minutes with empty beers, the check and the obvious choice of cash or card on the table… Almost ready to dine and dash! Please get yourself together!

I’ll keep it short: — Outdoor seating is nice for the three months of the year when you can use it. Go inside Moody’s and you’ll smell years of smoking grease from deep fryers. The outside isn’t special, it is just«outside», so lets call this a push. outside — fryer grease = 2 stars. — Our server was fine, nothing special, but nothing wrong = 3 stars. — Burgers are nothing special, but nothing wrong. In theory, that could mean 3 stars, but this is 2015. Give me this burger when my choices are McDonalds and the greasy spoon on the corner and I’ll tell you it is great. Now, we have 5 Guys and Red Robin raising the bar on chain restaurants. I can’t go more than 2 for something half as good as mainstream chains. =2 stars. — Like the burgers, the beer list would seem special if this were 1985, but it isn’t. Moody’s can probably survive(don’t know their economics, but guessing the building is paid for). If the owners want it to thrive, they may need to do more than remain as they were in the old days. Call Gordon. You’re a perfect candidate for kitchen-bad-dream-restaurant-make-over show. When you’re done, hang a big sign and I’ll give you another shot. Until then, I’ll enjoy one of the MANY other great burger options in the Edgewater /Andersonville /Roger’s Park area and bring a cup to the park when I need a beer outside.

Moody’s has a great beer garden. Truly one of the best in the city. But time and time again, I have gone their and the servers are just terrible — Always seem to get a rude server who is not knowledgeable nor helpful. Last time I was there I asked if the onion rings were vegan. They guy just looked at me with a blank stare and said, «I don’t know» — I literally had to ask if he would inquire for me(They are not vegan, btw — batter has egg in it). Also, the veggie burgers are not vegan. The only thing I can eat there are the french fries. This is not only a criticism of Moody’s, but all restaurants that carry a veggie burger that’s not vegan. Just server a vegan veggie burger. The vegetarians will be happy regardless and it would give the vegans something to eat. Kind of a no-brainer.

Moody’s is good year round, but great in the summer when you can sit in their ample outdoor patio space. Some people are put off by the vibe inside the restaurant.- the inside is kinda medieval and would be the type of burger restaurant you’d find in King Arthur’s court… dark with lots of fire and blacksmith tools. To me, it’s actually kinda badass– I feel like I’m in a lair or dungeon whenever I eat inside. On to the food– Moody’s has a great, no frills burger. They’re not trying to be fancy over there, but they do what they do really well. The beef is fresh and you can’t argue with hand cut fries. The drink selection is on par with most other places. Moody’s keeps it simple, and sometimes that’s the best way to go.

The burger is always good as are the fries. My favorite burger in Chicago. The service is always just OK but the price is right and the food is good. Plus they are open late.

I wanted to like this place so badly. I really did. My boyfriend and I happened upon Moody’s Pub during a late afternoon walk and thought we would try it out for dinner. We walked inside unsure of whether we should seat ourselves or wait for a host. I used to work in restaurants, so I thought it would be better to ask someone before we just sat down. A frazzled waitress told us there was a wait for the outside, but if we wanted to sit inside we could. We sat down at an open table and had time to play with the unlit candle nobody bothered to light for us, each get up separately to wash our hands, look over the drink and food menus and decide what we wanted to order(Mind you, I am SOSLOW to pick what I want to order. Especially at a new restaurant). In about 20 minutes, nobody EVER came over to greet us or pour us water. Eventually I walked up to the man, presumably the owner, behind the bar and asked if there was anybody actually waiting on the indoor tables. It had appeared to me that none of the other indoor patrons were receiving service either. He looked at me smugly and said, «Sure. The same ones working OUTside.» I sat back down while my boyfriend took a phone call for a while. Still nobody came over to our table. We ended up just leaving after about another ten minutes without ever receiving so much as a smile from an employee and we will certainly not be back. I found the two interactions with employees to be quite rude and really wished we could have at least gotten some water after walking around on such a hot night.

It had been years since I’d entered the dark cavern of Moody’s Pub, empty today because no one in their right mind would have hesitated before proceeding to one of the best patios in the city during one of our most-precious, beautiful days of the year. Plus, if I remember correctly from visiting in the winter, it’s tough to get that fried onion ring smell out of a winter parka, much less a nice, summery seer-sucker suit.(I’m kidding about the latter – seer is for suckers, guys walking in 4th of July parades and wealthy people on the golf course who don’t need to care…) The patio is really a large wooden deck, with three sections. Old trees sway overhead, and it’s away from the street noise. Small, primarily macro-brew beer selection, including Anchor Steam, which was close to a microbrew when I first tried it. I still like it, even with the massive selection of micro-brews today). I usually drink cocktails – prices here are very reasonable. Limited menu here too, but you only come for one thing: the burgers. For me, the Moody Bleu Burger is almost always the one. Today, I went with medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly to that temperature. Delicious. The fries it came with were also excellent. Hand cut, yet still crisp, and with the skins left on. I wonder: if the healthiest part of a potato is right under the skin, is still healthy when they are fried? There’s no reason to ever find that out. My only disappointment was that I didn’t have someone with me to share an order of onion rings with, and I wasn’t going to be a complete glutton. The burger was excellent, though it’s not one of the best in town(very tough competition!). The waitress seemed like she had been waiting tables for a while, and she was still sweet and energetic. Sweet enough that when she came back to tell me my card had been declined, she was very sensitive in quietly telling me. The problem was simply that they don’t take AMEX, and my AMEX looks different from most. I can’t think of many better places to chill out for a warm hour in the Chicago summer.

Service outside on a Thursday night was sloooowwwww… to her credit the poor woman had about 12 or more tables, so I can’t really blame her, I blame the restaurant. The outside seating, btw is quite charming — I’m a sucker for tall trees and exposed bulb lighting. It’s worth going on a summer night just to sit out there and chill. It’s irritating there’s no free refills on ice tea, soda, etc. I wish there were — I had my one iced tea, really could have used another, but didn’t feel like dealing with it(plus I couldn’t find the waitress). The burgers are good — nothing special or gourmet or gooey or covered in fried egg or anything, BUT the meat is quality(actually tastes like beef) and it was done just right. Fries are also good — salty, hand cut, ate all of them. Really –it’s a solid 3. A-OK and I’d go back, but it’s not really a splurge or knocking it out of the park.

This is a go-to spot for me and my friends. Decent food for not that much money and plenty of space so that you don’t feel bad for hanging out for awhile. The inside is dark, so if you like well-lit places, this isn’t for you. I kind of like the dim atmosphere, and it’s become a bit of a joke with our friends. Also, sitting out on the patio is always a good option on a nice day. The food is pretty good. I’m not a fan of the fries, but I’ve never been disappointed by the hamburgers or onion rings. Also, the pitcher of sangria is well worth the $ 15 to share with a friend or two.

The food is okay except for the fries, good deals on sangria and complementary shitty service. Most of the time I went here I was ignored and received shitty service, but the last time I planned to go takes the cake. My fellow black friend and I went on a slow night and after waiting for 5 minutes I flagged down the owner who seemed indifferent about serving us. I had to ask him to bring us water a few minutes later. A little after we got our food my white friend came. He immediately greeted her, was super friendly and he gave her X2 the amount of fries. Fuck Moody’s microagressive, Midwestern racism their fries suck anyway I’ve never seen anyone finish them. PS: if your friend tells you a similar story don’t suggest to take them to the place that discriminated against them.

I only had a Long Island here, but it was a good Long Island. Not made from a mix, and a good blend of liquor and sweetness. We sat right next to the fireplace, which was warm and cozy on a cold May afternoon. The place is a big dungeon-like, but that’s exactly why I went. They should play that aspect up.

I’ve been going here on and off over the years. Most recently though I had their burger and it was delicious and I wasn’t even hungry when I had it so you know it was good. It was just a simple burger with onion and lettuce. Onion rings are huge and crispy! Don’t get the fried fish — I had it a while ago and it looked like a pre-packaged filet. Not good, but then again who orders fish at a burger joint! The only con was that there was no air or outdoor seating so I was sweating eating indoors!

I came here for lunch with a friend and our 2 year old sons. We were practically the only ones there but it was nice. We sat by the fireplace which was really great since Chicago winters are awful. A key thing to know about this place before coming in, is that sure, they have a fireplace and candles on the tables, but it’s VERY casual. Like, food is served on paper plates casual. But that’s totally fine by me because the prices are great! I mean, you can have a burger and a beer(or 2) for under $ 20. That’s awesome. I played it safe and got the Moody Cheeseburger. It was really good and the fries are really good, too. Definitely makes me miss summer barbecues. I’ll definitely be back to try out the patio. A perfect place for a cheap bite to eat and drinks!

After several visits to Moodys I figure I better give it a review. Food & drink– You cannot come to Moodys without getting the onion rings and the bbq sauce. The burgers are decent. Average price and size for the neighborhood. The homemade sangria is wonderful– sweet & tangy. It’s easy to share a pitcher with a few people. Outside space– The first time we sat outside we were near a chain smoking table. It was a huge turnoff and I was happy that we were just there for appetizers and beers. The second time it was better but it still is not a good place to be if you’re a non smoker. Inside– The inside of Moodys is extremely dark. It has a dungeon type vibe to it. Come to Moodys and grab a pitcher on the patio or enjoy a burger in the dark. (3.5÷5)

Endroit agréable. Assez bon hamburgers. Jardin de la bière Belle sur une chaude soirée d’été. Je suis allée là sur et en dehors depuis plus de trente ans. Mais Sacre bleu, pourquoi est-il toujours aussi putain sombre à l’intérieur? (I’m supporting the French reviews here.)
