Specialties
Mixing Bowl Bakery specializes in wholesale and specialty baked goods and a weekly meal delivery service. Pastries can be ordered for any special event — from small birthday parties to a large scale wedding. Baked goods can also be found at Bön Bön Sandwiches in Wicker Park. All pastries are vegan and can be made allergy friendly upon request (gluten free, sugar free, etc.). Weekly meal plans include local and sustainably grown produce from Growing Power and the Chicago Women’s Skillshare garden space. Meal plans include 6 meals for one person priced at $ 110.00 and 5 meals for two people for $ 150.00 — delivery price included. Mixing Bowl exists to support my passion for cooking & baking, a healthy vegan lifestyle, and Midwestern farmers.
History
Established in 2011.
The Mixing Bowl Bakery is an amalgamation of my passion in baking and my views on animal activism and feminism. I’ve been vegan for four years and discovered after all that leafleting and non-for-profit work, that my main niche of activism lies in swaying people to a vegan lifestyle through tasty treats. I started my own business in mid-February after doing an event for a Chicago vegan fast food restaurant.
The name derives from my curiosity and fascination with the day of the dead — specifically, how our ancestors have passed down traditions of Craft — skilled craftsmenship. This is best symbolized by a vintage set of mixing bowls that connects each generation of women in my family. It particularly incorporates the Craft of baking that has been passed down through the generations of strong, talented, and artistic women that raised me.
