I really wish I had taken the time to consult Unilocal before purchasing a discount coupon for Michael Cleary. I purchased a $ 200 custom framing certificate for $ 20. They should have mentioned in the fine print that even their most basic framing cannot be done for $ 200. I had an 11×14 autographed black and white picture of Evil Knievel jumping the ceasars palace fountain that I wanted framed. I didn’t want elaborate triple matting or obscure framing materials. I simply wanted to put america’s greatest daredevil behind a pane of glass. His leather jumpsuit was more than enough to provide the pizazz for the piece. After leaving multiple messages to find out their quote I finally got a call back and they said they cheapest frame they could find would be $ 370. I asked what could be done closer to the $ 200 and they said nothing. I have had many things of this size framed for much closer to $ 150 price range in the past so found it hard to believe. When I brought this up and explained my confusion I got a one word answer«no». I understand they are a high end retailer and most of their projects are more intricate in nature than my EK nostalgia but they should have explained in the offer that the coupon could only be used as a credit towards a large project, and would not be sufficient to fully frame a print. I cannot help but feel like this was a bait and switch marketing approach. It is unfortunate that the customer service was as disinterested as it was. I’m sure they do fine work when working on elaborate framing costing thousands of dollars, but if they are not able to accomodate basic jobs as well it seems they should not use the mainstream discount daily coupon websites.

Do not buy any coupon offers for this merchant. I had two WSJ Gilt City coupons — each $ 20 for $ 200 framing services. The customer service on the phone is haughty and disinterested. Rene was the only person who was polite. I brought two normal sized prints to get framed, and was quoted prices all over the map — for simple shadowboxes, the price ranged from $ 225, then $ 255 each for painted black wood and then went to $ 450 for stained wood. There is no documentation of how they get to these prices, nor were there samples of finished worked displayed anywhere. Two people before me were quoted $ 850 to frame a poster with the least expensive shadow box frame — they quickly left. I called WSJ/Gilt City to see if there had been other complaints, and they confirmed that there were. Luckily WSJ has such great customer service that they refunded my coupons on the spot. So I’ll continue to use WSJ offers because they were honest about providing the information I needed about this merchant.

I got Googleoffer with this company and I had a 47X24 size Chinese painting framed. It cost out of pocket +$ 300 and it took 6 weeks to complete. When I saw the painting I was furious to see all the deep creases settled in the delicate rice paper. I am not going to say it was perfectly smooth and there were a few creases when I brought it in due to the fact that this paining has been around for more than 10 years. If you roll up a piece of paper, squash it and roll it out, the pattern and density you see is what now appreas on my painting. It’s obvious that there was severe handling issue during their whole process. It was a sentimental piece from a family friend who died a decade ago. I am very sad and mad to have taken it to this company. The deep creases remind me of this company forever. There is no solution or compensation provided but sorry from this company.
