I became an Acupuncturist after working 10 years as a city planner. I choose this new career after personally experiencing better health through acupuncture treatment. This powerful medicine first helped me by relieving frequent colds and bronchitis. I continue to use acupuncture to treat my health and have witnessed great changes in myself and my patients.

I graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, Chicago, with a Master’s Degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine. This in-​depth program is 4 years long and provides rigorous training in acupuncture, Chinese herbology, and Oriental Medicine theory. I am a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine from the National Certification Commission on Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). I’m fully licensed by the State of Illinois.

As a general practitioner I focus on gynecology and fertility, stress, depression, anxiety, allergies/​sinus health, pain management and gerontology. Acupuncture restores balance and health.

I originally saw Monique during my 2nd pregnancy and loved the experience. Very early in my 3rd pregnancy I experienced some alarming emotional changes, and my go-​to remedy was acupuncture with Monique. I am extremely sensitive to hormonal changes, and Monique is very experienced with women’s issues surrounding reproduction. I love that I can get results from such a natural treatment, that improves my body’s function, vs the more western medical model. The office is very relaxing and private, which is important to me when I’m coming in for help with emotional issues. Monique’s demeanor is so calming. She’s confident in her knowledge and ability, and manages to communicate her expertise in an empowering way, like she’s partnering with me, vs my experience with several medical doctors who present themselves as authority figures I’d be silly to question. Highly recommend acupuncture, Meridian 87, and Monique Wheeler!

I have been seeing Monique regularly now for around 3 years. In that time I have only had 1 sinus infection (I used to get 2 – 3 a year), have had fewer colds, and fewer allergy attacks. She also has helped me recover from an ankle injury and a surgery. Monique is quite skilled at what she does, but also knows that there is a time and a place for Western medicine and will tell you when you need to see your normal MD. She has helped me keep my mind and body to be its most healthy through various health issues and procedures. I still cannot sing her praises enough!

I’ve never been a fan of needles (really? who is?), so the first trip to an acupuncturist can be daunting. It doesn’t have to be with Meridian 87. Monique Wheeler uses ultra-​thin needles, and is expert at placing and removing them, meaning there is no pain. I’ve got a few times to treat insomnia, and got great results. Recently, I was doing a detox, and had a few headaches from giving up caffeine. I headed straight for Meridian 87, where those headaches went away, all without medication. Beautiful office, great staff!

Monique has totally opened my eyes to Chinese medicine and herbs. I’ve always been a bit intimidated by needles but after dealing with some intense upper back and neck tightness and recommendations from my chiropractor and massage therapist, I found Monique. Each time I’ve seen her we sit for a few minutes and she thoroughly consults with me regarding my symptoms and any changes. I really appreciate that she takes the time to really understand what I need from each session. Her bedside manner is perfect, she completely explains what she’s doing and why. Recently we started adding cupping to my acupuncture and I have noticed a huge improvement in my stiffness. I also had a cold earlier this year, my fiancé and I felt the symptoms coming on at the same time. I saw Monique right away and was back to myself by the end of the week. My fiancé, poor guy, ended up on an inhaler and serious meds because of bronchitis and walking phenomena. Whatever I was talking saved me from an extensive medical bill, countless trips to the doctor, and extended time off work. Monique is amazing.

Stop whatever you’re doing. Seriously. Stop right now and go see Monique Wheeler at Meridian 87. This woman is the best. I started seeing her for anxiety and some insomnia, but she’s treated me for anything from tension headaches to the common cold. I went to see her after not being able to breathe out of my nose for 3 days, she put some needles in my face and voila! No more mouth breathing! The needles don’t hurt a bit and the sessions leave you feeling relaxed and just very present in your body. Monique is warm and easy to talk to about anything you need treated; I can’t sing her praises enough. Go. See. Her.

Monique cares. Monique knows acupuncture. Monique will help you feel better. I had some hip problems that were as a result of back issues. This made my leg spasm. She treated this issue and then rubbed this amazing peppermint oil on the leg and made the muscles relax. She did cupping and needles and heat. Every time I went, Monique remembered what I was there for. She knew other issues that were going on in my life and was sure to ask about them. «How is business? How are things with my business partner? How is my husband?». She knows that those things can cause stress and she wanted to know what is going on in my life that she may have to be aware of. I might mention another issue and she asked if I wanted to address that issue. She was always conscious of what I might need that day. Monique also made available all the visits in insurance form so that I could submit them to insurance. She also uses herbs in her practice and many people ask her specifically for those that they have had work. Monique at Meridian 87 has had her own experiences with acupuncture and how it has worked with her own body. She truly believes in the healing powers of acupuncture. If you are at wits end with a problem, go to Monique. Monique cares. Monique knows acupuncture. She WILL help you feel better.

Yes, Monique is very knowledgeable and happy to share her wisdom with you throughout your session, but more importantly she gets results. Ask what’s going on if you’re curious. Don’t ask if you just want to kick back and let her to work her magic. Either way, you’ll leave feeling better, more balanced and more clear. I’ve found this needle thing is great for specific issues (knee pain) and general wellness (I feel crappy, do something). If you haven’t tried acupuncture, you’re missing out on some powerful healing.

I’ve seen Monique on and off for about a year now. She’s extremely kind, compassionate and gentle. I found immediately that she truly cares about her patients. She’s called or emailed to check in on me while she was treating a particularly tricky and complicated set of issues for me. When western medicine became a dead end for me, Monique was able to help. I also like her office space quite a bit — her table is very comfortable and she always took care to put me in a warm treatment room and offered heat lamps (I get very cold very easily — I’m sure she would make similar adjustments for people who get hot easily or need other accommodations to be comfortable).

I sought out Monique Wheeler’s acupuncture services in 2008 for help with infertility issues because my physician had recommended acupuncture as an additional modality. Monique was thorough, gentle, and all encompassing. She did an amazing thorough physical exam, took a long history and recommended changes in my diet and daily living regimen. She applied the techniques she learned in the training she received while obtaining her Master’s Degree of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. I had read her bio before using her and was extremely impressed with the course of study she had undergone. Her expertise was evident and I was at ease immediately under her care. Needless to say, I have a bouncing and beautiful daughter today and I know that Monique Wheeler’s expert care and treatment were an integral part of my pregnancy. I also benefited overall from Monique’s advice and support in other areas of my general health. I recommend Monique highly.

I’ve been seeing Monique for over 5 years. She is caring, knowledgeable, and an excellent practitioner. I almost always fall asleep during my sessions, and although I see her for specific health issues, my favorite benefit is the balance that acupuncture brings to my overall health. I highly recommend Monique for health issues including acute/​chronic colds/​flus, stress management, hormone balance, and improving quality of sleep. My husband also sees her for chronic repetitive stress in his shoulders/​wrists due to his job, and it helps tremendously.

I’m really liking my sessions with Monique so far. I almost fell asleep today during my acupuncture session! That’s right, you heard me, kids. I almost fell asleep with a bunch of needles sticking all over my body.
Monique has an excellent bedside manner and is very gentle and attentive and not too new-​agey-​hippy-​dippy. The first time I had acupuncture was with a Chinese practitioner and my sessions with him were more traumatizing than relaxing or promoting wellness. And unlike other places I’ve tried, Monique’s herbs are palatable and extremely inexpensive.
The facilities are nothing luxurious, but they are clean, adequate and I believe several practitioners work out of this location.

Monique has been treating me for over a year for my allergy and sinus issues, and I couldn’t endorse her more strongly — she’s been a miracle for me! For the first time in my life, I no longer need western medication (which was not working) for my allergies. I went to her as a last resort, after a lifetime of suffering from allergy symptoms every spring. I was not crazy about the thought of needles, and not necessarily a believer in acupuncture. However — that has all changed after seeking treatment with Monique. She has completely changed my everyday life by «curing» my allergies — she uses a combination of acupuncture, herbs, and moxa treatments. Not to mention, I barely feel the needles during treatment. Monique is the absolute best thing that has happened to my health… and the fact that she is sweet, always in a good mood and compassionate are a bonus.
