The school was started in 2009 by celebrity make up artist Amanda Shackleton who’s background is with major magazines, celebs, advertising and beauty campaigns.

Business Owner

Amanda Shackleton is the head teacher and founder of MMA. She has worked extensively in the fashion industry for 20 years and is currently represented by Wilhelmina Creative in NYC, Miami, Chicago & LA.

Originally from NY Amanda trained as a hair stylist and make up artist in London, where she gained a broad knowledge of the industry and built her portfolio and fashion contacts.

She has since worked and been represented by agencies in Milan, Munich, Amsterdam, South Africa, Sydney, NY, Miami, Dallas and LA… She has worked around the world on photo shoots with magazines such as Marie Claire, American Vogue, Cosmo, Glamor, Modern Bride, Fitness, Shape, O. Celebrity clients include Martha Stewart, Anne Hathaway, Katie Courick, Javier Bardham, Cyndi Lauper, Pierce Brosnin, Harrison Ford, Josh Hartnett, Christopher Walken and many more.

She never responds to my emails, i emailed her a few times no answer, her classes are not worth it at all. I do not reccommend. Please learn that if you want customers you need to be nice always!

I just finished the Makeup 101 class at Media Makeup Academy. I have done some makeup in the past and was looking for a class to take to further my knowledge. What I found out was that I knew alot about makeup, but I needed the hands on practice of working with people of all different skin tones and skin types to really push my application to the next level. Amanda, Melissa, Nika and Kristen were there every step of the way to help tighten up your technique and give you great advice on the look you were trying to achieve. And it ends with a photoshoot which was completely amazing! I really enjoyed the class and would recommend it to anyone with little to no experiece in makeup.
I’m giving this class 4 stars only becasue I wasn’t thrilled with was the kit. The brushes were not good. I had heard other classes getting Bdellium brushes and our syllabus said the same but we got some other brand, Royal & Langnickel Silk Pro line, that I really didn’t like. I wasn’t thrilled with the palettes either but I think they are fine for people just beginning that have no makeup to start with.
Otherwise, I love the class and I definitely plan to take other classes there very soon! Check out their airbrush class!

I will write a review now… I am Danielle and UNFORTUNATELY decided to sign up for this class without reading other reviews. ADVICE: ALWAYS READ REVIEWS. I called Amanda after making the mistake of paying in full on line, and prior to our phone conversation, agreed that she send me a refund for the money minus the deposit. Well… After speaking with Amanda on the phone, I feel like I got a pretty good idea of the kind of person she is and asked her «So what if I decide not to take the class?» And her reply was «why would you do that?» I said I didn’t like the way she was treating me over the phone (very rude and unprofessional) and before I could even finish what i was saying, Amanda said (over the phone) «I will send you a FULL refund» and then HUNG UP ON ME (the potential student!) I have battled with my credit card company to get my deposit back, because I cancelled a month before the class began, but Amanda believes she is entitled to $ 500 for NOTHING. She sent the emails that I agreed to the $ 1100 THAT WERE PRIOR TO OUR PHONE CONVERSATION. She didn’t respond to my email asking for my $ 500 back either. So UNPROFESSIONAL. Anyway, I just want to say that I actually feel sorry for someone who has to steal $ 500 from a hard working mother, that just wanted to take a makeup class to begin a career in the makeup industry. Luckily I pulled some overtime at work to make up for that $ 500 loss after my account had bounced and was charged a number of overdraft fees and other charges. It is pathetic, and obviously she has been through this before (again read reviews). I was put in a very uncompromising position due to her selfish and uncaring actions. I hope the measly $ 500 that you wrongfully took from me was worth losing future students, including myself, revenue and most importantly, your REPUTATION. CASE CLOSED…
