My path to becoming a State Farm Agent began with a focus on community.

As a 2007 graduate of Tulane University, I learned early and often the importance of engaging with my community. Hurricane Katrina taught me about the collective spirit and decency of people.

It’s that sense of community that led me to start a local State Farm Agency in Chicago’s Lakeview Neighborhood.

While at Tulane, I learned a thing or two about numbers.. . getting my Masters in Accounting and BSM in Finance. My first job after college was working as a tax accountant with Ernst & Young. But as much as I enjoy numbers, I enjoy community work more.

In 2008, I rejoined the service-​learning field as a member of State Farm’s Education Leadership Team. My responsibilities included leading State Farm’s Youth Advisory Board and State Farm Bank’s Youth Partnership Board. Prior to becoming an agent, I was a young adult market analyst on State Farm’s Young Adult Team.

I called into the office because I was looking to compare rates on my car insurance. I wasn’t really looking to change policies, but then I spoke with Patrick. He not only told me that I could save money with State Farm, but told me how easy it was to change insurance.

I recently moved to Illinois and needed auto insurance. I found this State Farm after a little internet research, and I loved my experience here. Matt Maloney and his team are the most easy-​going, informative, and professional group of insurance professionals I’ve ever interacted with. When I moved to Chicago, and had to get renter’s insurance for the first time, Matt’s team got me a quote in minutes, sent me my information, and made me feel comfortable about the rate I was paying. I see I’m not the only one who didn’t get a phone call answered or returned. I wanted to update my policy info. I emailed them. They didn’t respond for rest of the day or the next. I called and no one answered with a vmail saying that the office was closed or they were unable to answer. This was during a business day before noon. I called again in the afternoon, same thing. I left a Vmail. No email response or phonecalls the next day. I emailed how I was upset about not getting responded to. Next day, I received an email apologizing for not getting back to me. My emails and vmails were info about my cc# changed. They didn’t address my issue, just some excuse about new phones and not being able to be contacted. That is bad business. State Farm was a good company. Now it seems that their customer service is becoming like all other companies. Out of touch and lacking service. I left to another company after almost 4 years. If they did it to me, they can do it to everyone. Insurance is a scam industry to sell you something you hope you never use. I think they know it, and take your money and ignore you.

I called to get a quote for new auto and renters policies since I’m finally switching states and everyone I know raves about their State Farm coverage. I was hoping to click with this place, because close location and evening hours are both thumbs up in my book! I called 5 time in 3 days with no answer. Left a message and no return call. Guess I’ll take my business elsewhere…

Another rave for this place and Kati! My fiancé and I recently got bitten by the motorcycle bug and wanted to get bikes and get riding as soon as possible, but didn’t have any insurance coverage having relied primarily on the CTA and bicycles for the last 10+ years. I contacted this State Farm office as we already had renter’s insurance through them and told Kati Barr the situation. She could not have been more helpful or pleasant to work with. She gave me her cell phone and direct email address so I could contact her as soon as we purchased the motorcycles and get our policy started that same day. I should also mention she did this for us on a late Saturday afternoon when any other agent is long gone till Monday. Thanks to Kati going above and beyond there was no wait and we were (legally!) riding that night. I’m so impressed by the «above-​and-​beyond» service they offer.

She was very helpful and attentive along the way. I have been a GEICO member for over 6 years, but decided to move forward with StateFarm because of Kati’s amazing customer service and competitive rates. She made me feel like I made the best choice in the end with my auto and renters package bundle.
