Nice place. Love this nonprofit community center model. Mostly seniors here on a Thursday morning. Coffee is good, breakfast simple but tasty. Service quite slow so don’t expect to get in and out quickly. Place has a weight room, exercise room an meeting space. All in use at 11 am this Thursday morning but the weight room. Kitchen open to the public. WIFI Wiley you check your mail and surf a bit but not much else. $ 50 annual membership fee to support nonprofit expected if you anticipate regular use. I’ll be back when in Chicago and have time.

Always great food here and friendly service. Nice environment to sit, eat and socialize. Or if you’re solo that day to read and eat.

When it really doesn’t matter I recently visited Mather’s 83rd street location, immediately i noticed that i was transported to a dimension of senior living. Warning this place is more so for a 60 and up crowd.

Beyond food. Mather café is a community center/Café. On a recent lunch visit I unexpectedly walked in on a line dancing class, and a computer class, all inside the café. I was on my lunch break, only have 30 minutes so I couldn’t ask many questions about what the mission statement was. It was obvious to me that this café goes far beyond its name. A schedule of events just for Wednesday included, computer class for beginners, line dancing class, open workout room, self defense class, yoga, and about 5 other things that are slipping my memory. Very friendly and helpful staff. The Café is a walk up counter with an order board and a specials board, many sandwich and plate lunch specials, my friend got the Waffle and fried chicken tenders, and I had a tuna melt, the melt was done very well, with a huge portion of Tuna. The waffle was good as well. Breakfast is served all day and they open at 8:30, too bad because that is a little late for me. As the Colonel said this is mainly for older adults. It is an interesting concept, and I believe there to be others, it really fills a gap in the market. I don’t know what else the neighborhood offers as far as food, but when I am here this will be my place.
